GAME DAY PREPARATION
• Balance between preparing for your opponent and focusing on your play
• Pre-game meeting (7 minute rule)
• Can’t overload players with information
• Pick 5 or 6 points that you deem critical for your team’s success that day
• Individual reminders based on previous performance to create accountability

• Plan of retrieval on loss
• Roles and responsibilities on a win
• Opponents’ tendencies on won or lost faceoffs

DEFENSIVE ZONE COVERAGE
• Review our system of play
• Address any tendencies of opponents (i.e. activating defencemen, cycle game, funneling)
• Individual reminders (i.e. positional play, stick position, awareness, discipline)

POWER PLAY
• Review faceoffs/breakout/entries/set-up
• Tendencies of opponents (PK aggressive/passive? PK forecheck)
• Reminder to individual players from previous games (i.e. puck support, retrieval on dumps, shift times, quick puck movement, establish point shot)

PENALTY KILL
• Review opponents’ set-up/tendencies
• How will we counter?
• Faceoffs/DZ must have a plan
• PK forecheck (How do they break out?)
• Fundamental reminders (i.e. stops/starts, blocking shots, head on a swivel, active sticks)

NZ PLAY
• Review our forecheck
• Plan of retrieval off lost faceoffs
• Opponents’ tendencies (i.e. D to D up/high flip/hinge)
• Review our NZ play with possession

• Individual reminders based on previous games (i.e. turnovers, puck support)
