Task 3: Task 6: Task 9: SEESAW Task 12: Task 15: SEESAW
Design a sports kit for your
favourite sport!
Using items from around your
house (household items or junk
from the recycling), create a
plan/design of how you could
use these items to recreate a
sport which already exists.
Using your plan/design from
yesterday, set up and have a go
at playing your sport with your
siblings or adults at home.
Upload a photo or video of
playing your sport to Seesaw.
Every Olympics is hosted by a
different city. Pick a city which
has previously hosted the
Olympics and find out more
information about the country
that city is in (e.g. London 2012 –
UK, Rio 2016 – Brazil).
Watch the video on Seesaw as a
reminder of the different food
groups. To keep fit and healthy,
sportsmen and women usually
eat a nutritious and balanced
diet. Create a food diary for what

Task 1: Write a commentary for this Brownlee brother race clip. You can upload your written
commentary or record you saying your commentary on Seesaw.
Example
Here is an example of a commentary of a race. This race shows Usain Bolt winning a gold medal at
the London 2012 Olympics. Read through the commentary below:
Bolt is looking up to the sky, doing his prayer ritual. The racers are getting themselves prepared and
are waiting for the starting gun. They’re off! Gatlin has made a quick start, Bolt is sprinting with ease.
Usain Bolt fires ahead like a bullet out of a gun. He’s done it! Bolt has come in at first place making
history. Wow.
Now that you have read the above commentary you can watch the clip and listen to what the actual
commentators said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVTqySCtzVI
Your turn
You need to watch the clip until the end of the race. Then watch it again, this time on mute so that
you can think of your own commentary. You may need to pause the clip in places as you write down
your ideas. Make sure that you are writing in the present tense as though you are talking about the
race as it actually happens.
These two athletes are brothers, Alistair and Jonny. In the clip Alistair is helping his brother Jonny
over the finish line, rather than trying to win the race himself.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/triathlon/52388142
Don’t forget to upload your commentary to Seesaw. You can take a photo of your writing, type it
onto Seesaw or record your voice.

Task 2
Look at the mini sportspeople on the next page. Can you order them from shortest to tallest? You might want to cut them out very carefully to help.
Now, using a ruler or tape measure (there is a printable ruler on the website if you need it) can you measure them in cm? Record your answers below.
Name Height (cm)
Shortest Tallest
Challenge yourself!
How much taller is Michael than Simone?
How much shorter is Laura than Harry?
How much taller is Usain than Laura?
Can you draw your own 12cm sportsperson? Remember to use
your ruler.
Can you draw a sportsperson who is shorter than Simone, how tall
might they be?
Can you find out what they are all famous for?
Can you find out how tall they are in real life?

Task 3:
Design a sports kit for your favourite sport!
Choose a sport and think about what kind of clothes they wear. You are now going to design your
own. Think carefully about the colours and patterns.
Below are some examples of different sporting outfits if you need some inspiration and there is also
a template of a person which you can use to draw your kit on.

Task 4: Create a fact file about a sportsperson. Write about a person of
your choice. You might need to do some research to find the correct
information. You should all have a go at writing at least 3 facts. If you
can tell us more, that would be great.

Task 6:
Using items from around your house (household items or junk from the recycling), create a
plan/design of how you could use these items to recreate a sport which already exists (e.g. to play
tennis you could use cereal boxes to make rackets and a blanket or towel to make a net).
Use the planning sheet below to help:
What sport have you chosen to recreate?
What equipment do you normally need to play the sport?
What household items or recycling will you use instead of this equipment?
How is the sport played and are there any specific rules in the game?
Draw a picture of your plan/ design below:
Bramley Church of England Primary
12
Task 7: Write instructions for a sport/game. You could do some drawings to support your
instructions.
Example:
How to have an egg and spoon race.
Things you’ll need:
- Egg
- Spoon
1. First, get a spoon and an egg. Gently, balance the egg on the spoon and hold the handle
tightly. You cannot touch the egg.
2. Then stand at the start line.
3. When the whistle goes, you must run or walk carefully from the start line to the finish line. If
you drop your egg you must stop, pick it up and put it back on your spoon before moving again.
5. The first person over the finish line with their egg on their spoon wins.
Remember to use imperative verbs (bossy verbs) eg. run, throw, jump and adverbs eg. quickly,
cautiously, gently, quietly

Task 8:
The Tokyo Olympics need your help! They are trying to organise the Olympics for next year and they
need you to do some maths to help them get organised!
You will need to use your knowledge of counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s to help. If you are in Year 2, you
should be using your times table facts to help you and counting in 2’s, 5’s or 10’s if you don’t know
that number fact.
If you find this hard, you could get someone at home to help you write out your 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and
use this to help you solve the problems.
The Jamaican running team are sending 8 athletes to the Olympics. How many trainers in total
should they have ready?
There are 10 people in each swimming team. There will be 7 teams at the Olympics. How many
swimmers will be arriving?
Each gymnast in the American team drinks 5 bottles of water per day! There are 5 gymnasts in the
team. How many bottles of water do they drink altogether?
7 Olympic boxers will be competing in the games. How many gloves will be needed in total for the
boxers?
Challenge! Can you make up your own Olympic problems using your knowledge of 2’s, 5’s and
10’s?

Task 9:
Using your plan/design from yesterday, set up and have a go at playing your sport with your siblings
or adults at home. Upload a photo or video to Seesaw!
Fill out the evaluation sheet below on how it went:
1) What sport did you recreate?
____________________________________________________________________________
2) What worked well?
3) Did anything not work so well?
4) Did you enjoy playing this game, if so why; if not, why not?

Task 10:
Write a letter to Mr Moore persuading him to let you start a new sports club. Pick a club that you
think could be fun, be as inventive as you like.
Example:
To Mr Moore,
I am writing to ask you if we can have a new club. We have lots of great clubs, but I feel that we are
missing one that would be a lot of fun.
I think we should have a hopping club at school so that we stay active and healthy. It is important to
be active to keep your heart fit. I like to hop because it is a challenge and it is harder than jumping.
I will make sure that the children are very sensible at our club. I understand that our safety is
important to you so we will only hop outside and we will stay to one side of the playground away
from everyone else.
It would be really great if you let us have a hopping club. I hope to see you at school soon.
From,
Bill
Remember to:
- write the name of the person you are writing to
- have an introduction explaining why you are writing
- include your opinion (I think, I want, I believe…)
- explain why using conjunctions (because, so that, rather than)
- tell Mr Moore all the good things about your club and remember to think about things that
matter to him like safety, cost of equipment, learning…
- include your name at the end
Write the letter in your home schooling book.

Task 11:
Fitness Challenge!
Today we are going to collect some data. Data is information which helps us to answer a question.
When we collect data, we have to record it in a neat and organised way. We are going to record it in
a table today.
Your challenge is to see how many of a particular exercise you can do in 10 seconds. You will need a
stopwatch or timer or someone from home to time you. You will need to count how many of that
exercise you managed to do before the timer went off and record it in your table. Be honest and
make sure you do the exercises properly, as we will be presenting this data in a block diagram
tomorrow, so any HUGE numbers will be very tricky to work with!

them in draft on a separate piece of paper.
4. Add your captions, speech bubbles and thought bubbles to the comic strip.
5. Read back through your work:
- Check it makes sense
- Check your spellings
- Make sure you have used capital letters and full stops
- Check that you have used ! and ? in the correct places. Think about whether you
have used questions, exclamations, statements or commands.
Is that a spaceship?
What a goal!
I love football.
Give me my ball back.
6. Colour in your pictures.
7. Upload to Seesaw.
When a character
speaks use a speech
bubble.
