Brainstorming on Heart Rate and Beta-Blockers: aninternational perspective [1] As you will see from the scientific programme, the aim of the meeting is to provide you with anupdate of the very hot topics and messages that have been generated by the recent EuropeanSociety of Cardiology (ESC) Congress held in Barcelona. Over the course of the meeting, you will beupdated on the results of the most recent clinical trials and on the new ESC Guidelines. Theseupdates will be given directly by the current President and immediate Past President of the ESC.Thereafter, you will enjoy four sessions on: Hypertension, Atrial Fibrillation, Coronary Artery Diseaseand Heart Failure. We are sure that you agree with us that these are the most importantepidemiological cardiovascular diseases and the objective of this meeting is to provide you withaninsight into the recent scientific discoveries and the reason why recent ESC Guidelines have beenmodified and the clinical data behind these modifications or additions. We have selected the bestpossible speakers on these topics and they have been instructed to deal with the topic in astraightforward, scientific manner, including, wherever possible, clinical cases and actual examples.We have also asked five experts in the field from Asia to provide comments to each of these foursessions in the hope that we will have, together with you, a lively discussion where we compare theway of treating these diseases in Europe and in Asia.
