January is a time when many people reflect on the year gone by and set goals for the new year. I encourage every student and parent to take a bit of time to think about how the learning process has gone thus far: what worked, and what could be improved upon. Next, make some plans on how things might improve. Be sure to seek out support and ask questions. We have a wide variety of people at BDHS who can help, so please feel free to seek assistance from a teacher, guidance counselor, school social worker, vice-principal or principal. With just thirteen regular school days remaining before the final evaluation (exam) period, the end of the semester is in sight. Please do your best to complete all term work soon. Also, please ensure that the exact date, time and location of all final evaluations are understood and kept handy. Congratulations to BUC math students, who once again came out on
top. Both our intermediate and senior math teams took FIRST place in
the zone on the Canadian Intermediate and Senior Math Competitions
run by the University of Waterloo. That zone includes all schools in
the Simcoe County District School Board, Simcoe Muskoka Catholic
District School Board and Trillium Lakes District School Board. Way to
go Math BUCS!
I send my very best wishes to all of our BUCS for a successful completion to semester one.
Peter Stone

2019-2020 SCDSB school climate for secondary students
The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) aims to provide a safe,
supportive learning environment that encourages student success. Between
Tuesday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Mar. 6, 2020 all students in Grades 9 to 12 will
be asked to complete an anonymous and confidential online survey exploring
how they feel about their school. Teachers will supervise the class during the
survey’s completion and can answer any questions or concerns your child
may have.
Parents/guardians of students in Grades 9 to 12 will also be asked to
complete an anonymous and confidential online survey outlining how they
feel about their child’s school.
The survey results will provide valuable feedback to staff related to our
SCDSB Strategic Priorities and will help schools develop and refine their
School Action Plans.
Students, parents/guardians and staff will not be asked to provide their
names and all responses will be combined to ensure confidentiality.
Similar to prior SCDSB school climate surveys, the questions cover a range of
topics, such as:
• the overall tone of the school, often referred to as school climate
• mental health and well-being
• equity, diversity and inclusion
• experiences of school safety and bullying or harassment
• questions to assist the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit in its
Healthy Schools Initiative.

relax.” – Mark Black
Your child’s immunization record
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is required to keep up-to-date immunization records for all students who
attend elementary or secondary school in the County of Simcoe and the District of Muskoka. Parents are responsible
for reporting immunizations to the health unit each time their child receives a vaccine from their health care provider.
The immunizations that the health unit requires records for include:
• Diphtheria, tetanus, polio and pertussis
• Measles, mumps and rubella
• Meningococcal
• Varicella (chickenpox) (for those born in 2010 or later)
It’s easy to update your child’s immunization status. Go to www.smdhu.org/immsonline to update your child’s record
or call Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520 (toll free).
