vania. Settled in the late18th century and formedas Bradford County in1812, our history re-counts the adventuresof explorers, missionar-
ies, Native Americans,and early pioneers. Over
the years it attracted immigrants from otherstates and countries who came to work in coalmines and lumber camps. It contained highlyproductive farms, textile and leather indus-tries. It was crossed with acanal system and covered byrailroads. It was home to fa-mous politicians, war heroes,songwriters and stageand screen actors. he Bradford County Heritage Associ-ation houses an extensive collection of
rare farm implements, tools, and artifactsreflecting 200 years of local agriculturalheritage. The Heritage Village includes an1822 inn, Sugar Shack, Carriage House,Children’s Church, One Room School, Bar-ber Shop, Doctor’s Office and more. Dis-plays of large and small machinery, generalstore, blacksmith shop, tin shop, organiza-tions, and Revolutionary War items.

BRADFORD COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
radford County Historical Societymuseum and research center is located
in the former county jail, built in 1871. Ex-hibits depict life in Bradford County overthe past 200 years. Much of the jail has alsobeen preserved such as iron doors, the dun-geon cell, the exercise yard where execu-tions were performed and the Sheriff’sliving quarters, giving visitors an under-standing of 19th century jail design. The re-search center is located on the third floor.

FRENCH AZILUM HISTORIC SITE
rench Azilum is the site of a plannedsettlement along the Susquehanna
River built for the refugees as well as forQueen Marie Antoinette fleeing the FrenchRevolution. John Laporte, born at Azilumin 1798, built the Laporte house in 1836which serves as the museum. Guided toursof the Laporte house and a walking tour ofthe site are offered. Weddings, primitivecamping, and other events can be scheduledby contacting them.

HOME TEXTILE TOOL MUSEUM
TTM is dedicated to the understand-ing of textile production in the rural
home in the 19th century. A variety of pro-grams and workshops are offered usingtools and techniques of early America forspinning wool and flax, weaving, naturaldyeing, basket making, and other home-stead skills. Escorted tours. See 40 spin-ning wheels and many timber frame loomsfrom the 1800s. Rotating special exhibits.

eRoy Heritage Museum actively pre-serves the history of southwestern
Bradford County and the abandoned townson Barclay Mountain. The exhibits, housedin a restored 1876 Grange hall, tell the storyof life in the local coal, lumber and agricul-tural communities. Other exhibits includeresidents who were nationally acclaimed ac-tors and circus performers; military history;Civilian Conservation Corps; wildlife con-servation; and many other local pieces nottypically found in a small museum.

MANLEY-BOHLAYER FARM
he Manley-Bohlayer Farm is the homeof the Pennsylvania Apple & Cheese
Festival and the South Meadow Village.The Village has a working blacksmith shop,the c. 1860 Wilson/Bristol Cider Press, thec. 1900 Hoagland School and the c.1896Community Hall which houses a small mu-seum. Other major events and arts/human-ities programs are held at the farm duringthe year for all ages. The c. 1860 Farm-house and grounds are available for events.

P.P. BLISS GOSPEL SONGWRITERS MUSEUM
orn in a log cabin in 1838, Philip P.Bliss composed over 300 sacred works,
many of which can still be heard inchurches to this day. Bliss purchased thishouse for his parents in 1864 and alsostayed here when in Rome, Pennsylvania.Tour the historic 19th century Bliss familyhome and learn about the local musiciansand gospel song composers, such as P.P.Bliss, D.B. Towner, and James McGrana-han, who became known around the world.

TIOGA POINT MUSEUM
ocated on the second floor of theSpalding Memorial Library building,
built in 1897 near the site of Fort Sullivanand across from the location of the AthensAcademy attended by Stephen Foster in1841, the museum has exhibits of local Na-tive American artifacts, Revolutionary andCivil War, early Bradford County history,canal and railroad history, an American In-dian collection, folk art paintings and an ex-tensive map collection.

WYALUSING VALLEY MUSEUM
he museum’s focus is the WyalusingValley and contiguous area of the
southeastern corner of Bradford County. Itis located on the nearly two-century-oldWelles family farm. The collection includesNative American artifacts, agricultural im-plements, military gear, a school classroom,and 19th century carriages and fire equip-ment.
