1. BPS Conversion • SAP doesn’t currently offer an upgrade from BPS to BPC. For this reason,
upgrading from BPS to BPC is more involved
• SAP environments will need a fresh install of BPC either stand alone, or as a BW 7.3 add on.
• Project teams will also need to rebuild BPC according to business finance requirements
2. BPC Upgrade • Upgrading to BPC 10 from a prior version is simpler than upgrading from BPS, but
it still requires careful planning
• BPC stack will lose the .NET layer of the hardware, and there is a new client install (single client vs. one admin and one user client)
• There is an upgrade path available from SAP, but thorough testing to ensure everything is brought over to the new version is vital to the success of the project

Project plan Our in-house project plan for BPC upgrades is consistently being revised and re-published with findings from ongoing projects. The baseline plan will be modified to suit.
Documented project requirements
Method360 EPM Blueprint template is used for BPC upgrade activity.
Upgraded Dev, QA and Production instances
Experienced Method360 BASIS resources will deploy on the ground to ensure the upgrade runs as smoothly as possible.
Testing Strategy & Execution
The testing strategy document will ensure the testing performed is comprehensive.
Training plan & Execution The training strategy document will drive alignment between the business and the delivery capabilities of the project team
Training cheat sheets One page cheat sheets with login and navigation reminders, including screenshots
Cutover plan & Execution
The team will leverage the standard Method360 BPC Upgrade Cutover Plan, and modify to suit. The team will then conduct cutover. In the event the outage window is too short, or non-existent, a suitable time will be negotiated.
Support
Method360 will remain onsite for a period of 2 weeks post go-live to ensure the majority of any issues that may occur are attended to, and knowledge is properly transferred to in-house client representatives..

• The simpler your installation the easier it will be to upgrade. You may want to take this opportunity to simplify your application for ease of use, maintenance and future upgrades.
• Work with your business stakeholders to drive early and often alignment on key upgrade activities.
• Work with internal IT teams such as Quality Assurance and Change Leadership to ensure calendars align.
• Any hardware required by sizing results should be installed and procured quickly in an effort to avoid delaying agreed upon project milestone dates
• Change leadership, if required, will be provided by client • Establish an agreeable turn around time for decisions required for project activity. • Agreement upon scope of functionality contained within the instance to be
upgraded should be in advance of project start and between all application stakeholders
• With sound BW data, that performs to meet the expectations of the user community, BPC upgrade project activity will be made simpler. If not, you may want to consider a ground up data analysis and re-architecture project to avoid putting good solutions over bad data.
