Bearcats fall to Glen Rose in home opener By Dominic Genetti The Community News The Bearcats will have to wait another week before they can try for their first home win of the season. Aledo lost the home opener in front of a large crowd to Glen Rose 53-34. Bearcat senior Danny Glass led the team in points with 16, but even his game opening Alley-Oop wasn’t enough to stop the Runnin’ Tigers. Aledo also committed 10 turnovers. Glen Rose committed 12. At first the competition seemed well matched. The Aledo offense kept up with the hustling Glen Rose defense and were only down by two points after the first quarter. The Tigers led 9-7 after the first quarter. Points got on the Aledo side of the board with a three-point field goal from senior Matthew Barron and a two-point field goal from junior Pierce Gentry. Glass’ Alley- Oop rounded out the team’s opening period points. In the second quarter, Glen Rose came out shooting and put 22 points on the board while Aledo only accu- mulated 13. Most of Aledo’s points came off of Tiger fouls to Glass. The 6’4” senior was six for six at the free throw line in the second quarter. Additonal points came from Gentry at the foul line and senior Marc Ryals with a two-point field goal. At halftime, the Bearcats were down 31-20. The second half didn’t get better for Aledo. The Bearcats only added seven points to the score while Glen Rose added 19. The low accumula- tion of Aledo points can be attrib- uted to a zone defense the Tigers set O NE GAME DOWN up to stop the Bearcats from getting the 11 points they needed to tie. “We didn’t execute against their zone,” Aledo head coach Steve Smith said. A three-point field goal and a free throw from freshman Taylor Johnson along with a two-pointer from Glass and a free throw from Barron were Aledo’s only baskets of the quarter. Glen Rose only scored three points in the fourth quarter, but the mission was already complete. Barron, Gentry and senior Robbie Spreier scored the Bearcats’ only bas- kets that once again totaled seven. “Give Glen Rose credit,” Smith said, “they shot very well, even when they had a hand in their face.” The Bearcats’ next home game is Nov. 30 against Southwest Christian.
