They look like a helmet with a tail, legs, and a head. It’s shell color is black and yellow with orange markings. They can close their shell almost completely. They have their skeleton on the outside of its body.

Box turtles are 3 inches tall and 8 inches wide. Baby turtles are calledhatchlings. They lay 3 to 8 eggs at a time.

They live in woodlands and go into water to bathe. In the winter,they live on land under leaves and other woodland brush.

It eats mostly plants, but will eat snails, insects,berries, flowers, fish and frogs. Its predators are skunks, raccoons, minks, snakes, and rodents. Itprotects itself by hiding in its shell. We like this animal because it has a beautiful, colorful shelland cool eyes.
