The 2010-2012 Biennium has seen many changes for the face of politics in BowieCounty. The citizens voted in 2010 for many newcomers entering the political arena.

While there was a bit of a roller coaster ride incorporating people who had little to noexperience in our County Government, overall, the newly elected have fulfilled their job

duties and brought new ideas to the table.

It is the County Chairmans responsibility to work closely with the ElectionAdministrator to smoothly transition into a primary election. The State of Texas has had

statewide upheaval regarding the redrawing of district lines. There is much debate andwrangling over the legality of the district lines. The partitioning of the State has not

been easy, the procedure has not been smooth.

As of Friday, February 3, 2012, the State does not have approved redistricting maps.This leads to much doubt and confusion regarding closing of filing dates and whether a

unified primary can be planned in the near future. It is my belief that a unified primaryis the best, most practical way, to achieve the greatest number of citizen votes on Primary

Day.

As of February 5, 2012, no decisions have been reached and Primary dates spanning from

March 15 to April 17, 2012 are being discussed.

This environment is the perfect storm for unsettling questions and unfounded answers. It

will take patience to see this situation to completion, but we must all be steadfast in ourresolve to wait for the courts decision, to work toward a smooth election, to follow the

guidelines as set out by the State of Texas.

Just as the Republican Party in Bowie County has undergone many changes in theBiennium 2010-2012, the State of Texas is experiencing the pains of a growing

population, a growing economy, and growing needs to be sure that all citizens have avote that counts in their community, their county and their United States.

Students Nominated by Representative George Lavender

House District 1 students selected for the 2011-2012 Texas Aerospace

Scholars Program

Six students from House District 1 were selected for the 2011-2012 Texas AerospaceScholars Program.

The program includes online distance learning classes during the 2012 Spring semester as

well as an on-site summer program to be help at the Johnson Space Center in Houston,Texas.

The students selected included Cody Nickerson of James Bowie High School and KellyBurnett, Hannah Klopper, Morgan Norfleet, Christian Pennington, Caleb Strutton, all

students from Texas Senior High School.

One of the greatest joys of serving as State Representative is the ability to connect ourlocal youth with opportunities such as the Texas Aerospace Scholars Program. It was an

honor to nominate each of these students and I wish them the best of luck and in this, andall future endeavors, said Rep. George Lavender.
