We offer a wide choice of courses and some of the best training facilities in the country for school leavers. At our state-of-the-art £66 million campus in Longbridge we have custom-built motor vehicle workshops, industry standard training restaurant and hair and beauty salons, music studios with professional recording equipment, fantastic science labs and media suites and a modern gym to keep your fitness levels up, to list just a few. You will learn from our tutors who are industry experts and subject specialists so you can benefit from their knowledge and industry links.

classrooms...We have over 150 classrooms at our new campus. These are equipped with the latest technology, including Smart boards and computers. For more specialised subjects, we have classrooms and workshops featuring industry standard equipment such as Mac computers in media suites, Pro Tools software in music studios, microscopes and other equipment to perform scientific experiments, art and photography studios for art students to name a few. We also have over 20 cars and a number of motorbikes in motor vehicle maintenance workshops, training salons for hair and beauty well placed within our commercial salons of Urban Elegance and Serenity as well as kitchens and Urban Flavours restaurant for those studying catering and hospitality.

learning Zone...This state-of-the-art facility situated at the heart of the College was designed with students in mind. It’s divided into different areas to cater for individual student needs and various styles of study. Whether you need to discuss a group project, browse through books or online materials, quickly print your homework or find a quiet spot to write your assignments, there’s a dedicated space just for you. With over 300 computers and laptops as well as Wi-Fi access throughout, the Learning Zone offers complete flexibility whatever your needs.

cinema room...This 40 seat 3D cinema room is a real hot spot amongst our students. They enjoy using this facility to watch films as part of the weekly College Film Club as well as to watch their own creative productions.

the street...This is the place where our students get to meet their friends before their classes, during breaks and once their day has finished. Here they can access a wide variety of facilities including places to eat such as Zest, Go Sasa! and Urban Flavours restaurant. There’s also Starbucks selling light refreshments as well as a newsagent Urban News selling confectionery and other snacks. The Street is a popular space that has been designed for you.

Urban Flavours is a training restaurant for our catering students. Open to the general public, it provides quality contemporary dining at an affordable price. It has the capacity for 70 people and serves food from around the world. You are welcome to eat here too and students also receive a 10% discount off the menu prices. Student award ceremonies and themed culinary events are regularly held in Urban Flavours.

In this modern salon you can enjoy having your hair styled in the latest fashion or if you choose to study hairdressing then learn the techniques of this creative industry. Open to the public, Urban Elegance offers a wide variety of services, including cutting, styling, colouring and conditioning treatments.


Urban Serenity is a tranquil beauty salon open to all, including students and general public. Here you can melt your worries away or treat a friend or a family member to a relaxing treatment. Our beauty therapy students benefit from this fantastic facility too as here they’re able to practice their beauty therapy and customer service skills on paying clients.


Our gym features over 70 work stations, steam room and sauna to keep your body in shape and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Open seven days per week throughout the year, from early morning hours till later in the evening, you can enjoy this fantastic facility before or after your lessons, during weekends and holidays too.


The Garage @ Bournville College is a brand new business specialising in car and motorbike servicing, repairs and MOTs. Experienced and friendly mechanics working at The Garage are able to provide expert service and advice, whatever the customer’s needs. The Garage also offers a unique opportunity for our students of motor vehicle maintenance to learn and practice their skills, under close supervision of staff working in The Garage.

Our friendly student centre is the place where you can catch up with your friends, speak to our Student Activities Team, find out about volunteering opportunities, pick up a copy of our student magazine Buzz and book yourself on a college trip to places such as Alton Towers, Drayton Manor, Warwick Castle, paintballing, ice skating, bowling and many more.

student welcome Fair and other themed events...The Student Welcome Fair is an annual event that takes place in September. It’s been set up to help students find out about a wide range of activities and services that the College and local organisations can offer you. You’ll be able to participate in a calendar of social events such as Be Safe Week, Volunteering Week, Health Awareness Week and many more.

student union...When you join us, you automatically become a member of the Student Union. Elections, where all students are eligible to vote and decide the members of the Executive. The President then sits on the College Corporation which is the highest decision making body at the College.

Film club...Our students can watch a variety of interesting films in our very own cinema through the weekly Film Club. The club is open to all students and managed by Student Activities Team. Our cinema room (see page 5) is also compatible with 3D technology which makes watching films an even more exciting affair.

Buzz...This student magazine is always full of interesting material written by our students. If you have a creative flair, your contributions will always be welcome.

classrooms & BeYond...

sport development centres...Through any of our Sport Development Centres you can improve your health, increase fitness, make new friends and have fun. Whether you want to play recreationally or compete against other colleges, you’re in the right place. You don’t have to study sport in order to join one of our Sport Development Centres in football, badminton, basketball, cricket, running or netball. You will be trained by qualified coaches and be able to represent the College in the British College League, earn nationally recognised qualifications in your chosen sport and we can even help you coach abroad.

getting involved...To help enhance your CV and leave the College with plenty of accomplishments to be proud of, you’ll be able to get involved in a wide variety of activities, including volunteering, fundraising and other college events as part of our Student Ambassador Academy. Tasks may include meeting and greeting visitors during college events, conducting visitor tours or even participating in a photoshoot or press interview.

advice Zone...Advice Zone is a customer centred front line service that provides students with impartial information, advice and guidance. The Advice Zone is located at main reception and our specialist team of staff deal with all types of enquiries including course information, admissions, enrolment, bus passes, funding, fees, first aid requests, lost property and appointments for Counselling, Funding & Welfare advice.

careers team...The Careers team will work closely with you during your time at College, preparing you for your future. In addition to providing one-to-one support at our specialist Careers Centre, they organise regular events and activities to help you decide what you want to do after you leave College. These include visits to universities, talks by employers and the annual Higher Education Fair. Careers appointments are bookable within the Careers Centre with an Adviser

where next?

Personal tutor...You will be assigned a personal tutor at the start of the course and during your time at the College this person will be your first port of call for any problems. They will provide you with one-to-one support and encouragement throughout your studies as well as point you in the right direction if you need further support and advice.

counselling...We believe that it is important for you not to be distracted from your studies by problems and concerns occurring either in or outside college. Penny Brown and Sonia Herbert, the College Counsellors, provide a confidential counselling service to all students. You can talk to them about any issues which are troubling you.

student funding & welfare team…Finance is an important factor when deciding to go to college, however, you don’t have to let a lack of money prevent you from attending your course.

The Student Funding Team is here to ensure you get the best advice and support. If you would like more information or speak to a member of staff, please contact Student Services where the team will be happy to assist. The Student Funding Team are located in the Advice Zone or can be contacted by telephone on 0121 477 1722 / 1723 or email [email protected]

A Welfare Advice service is available to help students with any issues surrounding debt, housing, benefits, accommodation, immigration concerns or any other welfare related issues. Welfare appointments can be booked through the front reception of the Advice Zone or by telephone on 0121 477 1306.

additional support...Our Assessment and Support team provide additional support for students with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, learning difficulties, mental health difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions, medical conditions and specific learning difficulties (e.g. Dyslexia). Additional support could include the following:

3. attend a choice & admissions event… This is where you can visit the college to look at what we have to offer and discuss your course choices with tutors

and advice & guidance staff

4. receive an offer of a place… You will receive an offer of a place on the course(s) most suitable to you, subject to you meeting the entry criteria

5. welcome days & taster activities… Events and activities will be held to further develop your understanding of the course, the college and the tutors and

staff who will be working with you

6. appointment for enrolment… Once you get your exam results, you will receive a letter with a specific appointment for enrolment, with a timetable

and an induction date

Progression: 1 year employment as a Beauty Therapist on a Caribbean cruise ship, followed by higher education studies of the Foundation Degree in Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy Salon Management at Bournville College from September 2013.
