From April 1st we will be accepting concessionary passes from all over England, an

example of the pass is shown below, it must have the English Rose in the left corner.

Passengers holding passes from other parts of the UK (Scotland, Wales, Ireland) are

not valid and will continue to pay a full adult fare. Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole

Connect Passes which clearly show all day local, as per example above, have no

restrictions and should be accepted at any time.

Companion (C+) passes allow for a second person to travel free with the card holder

(you must press concessionary button twice).

Recording fares will be much simpler from an operational point of view, as the fare

strip will change to show just one button for concessions. It is important that the fare

stage is correct.

• Passes (except all day versions) will be valid from 0930 - 2300 Monday - Friday

and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays

• Only English passes, with the rose, are valid for free travel

In the event that passes are not issued in time for the April 1st deadline, passengers

will have a temporary pass, which they must show with their old style pass and must

be accepted until further notice.

Travel outside a TCA's area

11. Whilst existing passes will allow travel within a TCA's area, they will not, on their

own, permit travel outside that area (unless there are specific arrangements, eg

in respect of countywide schemes). Therefore, if an eligible concessionaire has

not yet received his or her new smartcard pass to the national design, and wants

to travel outside the area after 1 April, he or she will need some other means of

demonstrating eligibility to travel. Because of this the Department has procured

a supply of temporary cardboard passes.

13. Each Temporary Pass has a unique number and includes a specially designed

hologram.

14. TCAs must, on no account, seek to copy the design of the temporary pass and

procure their own supplies. The above design has unique security-based

elements, included the unique holograms, that will be compromised by any

copies. Costs have been kept to a minimum, and Government will not seek to

do more than to cover the direct costs of production and distribution.

Temporary passes will only be valid when shown alongside a concessionaire's

existing local pass with a corresponding pass number.
