Langtoft company Workplace Property Ltd and their founder, Market Deeping resident Richard Hiblin, celebrated 40 years in business in May – proving that it is possible to ride out a recession or two and thrive in a boom or bust economy.

Forty years ago Richard started his business by investing in a second hand Land Rover and some steam cleaning equipment. As his business grew, he moved to an old plant hire yard on King Street, near Langtoft. Today that yard is King Street Industrial Estate – a flourishing commercial community, consisting of 40 units, currently housing over 35 businesses and employing some 200 local people drawn to its convenient rural location from Peterborough and the surrounding towns and villages. Ten-ants of the estate include a self storage facil-ity, a printer, internet retailers, a workplace training centre, industrial manufacturers and giftware wholesalers, amongst others.

www.workplaceproperty.com

In response to consistently high occupancy levels over the past few years, the latest block of units at King Street was erected earlier this year, with 6 new high-spec industrial units replacing an older office block – part of a modernisation programme in this anniversary year.

It was as a result of the credit crisis that Dainty Little Treasures was formed. Michaela Harrison, creator, was looking for something to fill a gap in her worklife when, by chance, a gift for her daughter inspired a new, local and unique business venture that has really taken off.

Having previously worked in the home-selling area, Michaela took her love of colours and all things sparkly to create Dainty Little Treasures, handmade jewellery that uses Swarovski Crystals in its design to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

Dainty Little Treasures has since been on display at the Peterborough Wedding Show, and has many fayres booked throughout the local area including the Bourne Festival, Peterborough Heritage Festival and Stamford Arts Centre.

Michaela is now looking for bookings for home parties in which the hostess receives up to 15% of total sales in jewellery of their choice plus a free gift.

For further details contact Michaela on 07944 145640 www.wowthankyou.co.uk/dainty-little-treasures

A little bit of sun and it gets you thinking about your summer outfits and holiday pool attire. A little tight in places maybe? Well let’s see if we can remedy that and get you look-ing even better for the summer, but it’s going to be tough!

By increasing the amount of oxygen your body uses during exercise, your body will burn more calories post exercise. After a hard training session your body will consume more oxygen than normal (by trying to return it, to its pre-exercise state). In Health and Fitness circles, this is known as Post Exercise Oxygen Consumption or EPOC. Basically this will cause a spike in your metabolism and increase calorie burning for up to 48 hours!! I will outline three methods you can try. (If you are new to exercise ensure that you have prior approval from a medical professional)

CALORIE INFERNO!

Now for the great outdoors, or the treadmill. Run as fast as you can for 30 seconds then rest for 1 minute. You can start this method x5 for the first week and add x5 on each week until you get to x20.

If you really want to burn calories, you can combine all 3 sessions over a weekly period, ensuring that you have a minimum of at least one days rest, in-between each session.

Method 1

You need to complete a full body “weight” routine, hitting all major muscle groups. One catch, the weights you lift will need to be heavier than you tradi-tionally do, 2-3 times heavier. Not for the faint hearted I know, but proven. Heavy lifting inflicts more damage to your mus-cle fibres, so they require more oxygen and energy to repair. A gradual approach can be adopted, by slowly increasing your weight over a 4-week period.

Method 2

If you are able to train twice a day (i.e. morning and evening) your EPOC will be elevated. In the form of cardio sessions on either the exercise bike or row-ing machine. Complete two 25-minute sessions at 75% of your maximum heart rate. If 25 minutes at 75% is too much of a challenge. Change the duration of your session and gradually build up to the 25 minutes, by increasing the time over a 4-week period, starting with 15 minutes.

ACHIEVING THE CONFIDENCE HABIT

However, confidence is so much more than just having a positive feeling resonatingin your body – it’s an approach/attitude that leads to motivation & success. Has the thought that life is sort of like a movie ever crossed your mind?? if you look around you, you start to notice that we all play certain roles in life. This can be good or bad \depending on the role that we have been “cast in” by life. BUT, wouldn’t it be nice if you could play the role that YOU WANT? I’m talking about being the person YOU want to be. Maybe you want to be more organised, motivated & confident, outgoing & fun?Well, it’s possible when you do this ONE thing....... * SEE YOURSELF AS THAT PERSON*It’s true, if you want to be the kind of person who gets the things you WANT in life, you have to see yourself as that person!!

I’ve the programme that helps you do exactly that....... I can change your limiting beliefs into empowering beliefs. The aim is to encourage you to alter your behaviour, so that you become aware that thoughts change behaviour and have an impact on habits. This process rewrites/re-routes the hard wiring in your brain that dictates how you perceive/react to certain situations.

I can help you with Anxiety issues, phobias, unwanted habits, weight control, , public speaking, sports hypnosis & many more....Contact me NOW.... The essence of natural confidence is just feeling comfortable in your own skin ,for many people this just seems to happen naturally, but for others it proves to be more problematic. So start to imagine vividly how your life and circumstances would be if you were ALREADY naturally confident right as this moment! – feeling totally at ease with yourself and whatever else is going on around you.

• How would your posture be?• How would your voice sound?• What kinds of things would you be saying to yourself?• What would you picture in your mind?

Home & Garden

It’s been a challenging year in the garden as our weather has once again broken records, but we gardeners are a resilient bunch. As with all life we are bound by the elements and all its extremes, but with a little more caution, thoughtful planting and good gardening practices we shall prevail.

August Garden Scene

Jobs to do in August

-Take cuttings of tender or borderline perennials like Osteospernum, Pelargonium Salvia’s and Penstemon.

- Keep dead heading!

- Always feels odd to be thinking about spring bulbs but get ordering ready for autumn planting.

- Time for a last cut of your hedges

- Collect and store seeds of hardy annuals and perennials to sow in the spring.

In the kitchen garden- Summer prune apple and pear espaliers or cordons. Prune back this year’s growth to 2/3 buds.

- Maintain even watering of tomatoes and regular feeding to avoid problems like blossom end rot.

- Harvest second early potatoes to avoid any slug damage.

- As onions and shallots fade fold stems over lift and dry well ready for storing.

- Any pruning of stone fruits like peaches and plums must be done by the end of the month.

Plant of the monthDierama pulcherrimum

Graceful arching flower stems, and dangling ‘fish shaped’ blooms, makes it easy to see why its common name is ‘Angel’s fishing rods’, looks great next to water. Best in full sun, on a fertile but free draining soil.

FOOTWEAR fitting specialists North Shoes are bringing their expertise to Stamford. The family business – which has been trading from Bourne since 1876 – is opening a new shoe store at 2 Red Lion Square at the end of July.

It will be the company’s third store. The long-standing firm opened Footprints in Peterborough in 2009 and also has a shop in North Street, Bourne – at the original site of the historic business.

The Stamford opening marks the fulfillment of an ambition for company boss James North, the fifth generation of the family at the helm. James North took over

as head of the business in 2008 – making it the fifth generation of the family in control. Only two other independent shoe retailers in the country can better that lineage.

The store will cater for ladies, children and men in a whole range of width fittings – from C to H – and feature a host of well-known, brands, including Hotter, Rieker, Ecco, Van Dal, Geox, Converse and Fitflop for women, Loake, Rieker, Anatomic and Fitflop for men, and Start Rite, Geox, Petasil, Ricosta, Converse and Fitflop for children. It will specialise in fitting orthotics for children’s and ladies’ shoes. To find out more about North Shoes, visit www.northshoes.co.uk
