REFRIGERATOR INSTALLATION

LEVELING AND DOOR ALIGNMENTLevelingYour refrigerator has two front leveling screws—one on the right and one on the left. If yourrefrigerator seems unsteady or you want thedoors to close easier, adjust the refrigerator’s tiltusing the instructions below:

1. Plug the refrigerator’s power cord groundedoutlet. Move the refrigerator into its finalposition.

2. Turn the leveling screw clockwise to raise thatside of the refrigerator or counterclockwise tolower it. It may take several turns of theleveling screw to adjust the tilt of therefrigerator.

NOTE: Having someone push against the topof the refrigerator takes some weight off theleveling screws. This makes it easier to adjustthe screws.

3. Open both doors again and check to makesure that they close easily. If not, tilt therefrigerator slightly more to the rear by turningboth leveling screws clockwise. It may takeseveral more turns, and you should turn bothleveling screws the same amount.

4. Re-adjust if necessary.

5. Replace the base cover.

NOTE: Your new refrigerator is uniquelydesigned with two fresh food doors. Either doorcan be opened or closed independently of oneanother. You may have to exert slight pressureon doors to get them to close completely.

Door AlignmentIf the space between your doors is uneven, followthe instructions below to align the doors:

1. With one hand, lift up the door you want toraise at middle hinge.

2. With other hand, use pliers to insert snap ringas shown.

3. Insert additional snap rings until the doors arealigned. (Three snap rings are provided withunit.)

USING YOUR REFRIGERATOR

ENSURING PROPER AIRCIRCULATIONIn order to ensure proper temperatures, air mustflow between the refrigerator and freezersections. As shown in the illustration below, airenters at top of freezer and circulates down. From bottom of freezer, air is forced up to top ofrefrigerator. Air enters refrigerator through topvent, then circulates and exists at bottom, whereit returns to freezer.

MULTI-FLOW• Multi-Flow means powerful and effective cooling

operation. This is especially noticeable whennew food is placed in the refrigeratorcompartment.

• If water or foreign substances enter the cool airvent while cleaning, efficiency will be lowered. Inaddition, if gasket is damaged, efficiency maybe lowered because of escaping cool air.

Do not block any of cool air vents with foodpackages. If the vents are blocked, airflow will beinterrupted and temperature and moistureproblems may occur.

IMPORTANT: Because air circulates betweenboth sections, any odors formed in one sectionwill transfer to the other. You must thoroughlyclean both sections to eliminate odors. Toprevent odor transfer and drying out of food, wrapor cover foods tightly. (See the Food StorageGuide section for details.)

SETTING THE CONTROLS• Your refrigerator has a control pad on the

dispenser that lets you regulate the temperaturein the freezer and refrigerator compartments.

• Initially set the REFRIGERATOR CONTROL at3°C and the FREEZER CONTROL at –18°C.Leave it at this setting for 24 hours (one day) tostabilize. Then adjust the compartmenttemperature as desired.

• Refrigerator Temp Control: 0°C to 8°CThe lower the number setting, the colder therefrigerator compartment will become.

• Freezer Temp Control: -21°C to -13°CWhen the setting is at a lower number, thefreezer compartment becomes colder. But therefrigerator compartment becomes warmerbecause less cold air flows into the refrigerator.

NOTE: If you want to off display, press and holdEXPRESS FRZ key and FREEZER key over 5seconds at the same time.

NOTE: Touch display once to activate, thentouch again to change the settings or activate afunction. If 10 seconds has passed since thedisplay has been touched, it will be necessary totouch “once” again to reactivate. This is to prevent accidental display settingchanges.

• Express Freezing : Press the EXPRESS FRZbutton and the LED will turn on. This functionwill remain activated for 24 hours and increasethe cooling speed of the freezer and the amountof ice produced.

• Dispenser Lock : Press and hold the LOCKbutton for 3 seconds to lock the dispenser. When it is locked, the LED will be off and thedispenser will not operate. To unlock, press andhold the LOCK button for 3 seconds.

• Filter Reset : When the FILTER RESET LEDturns on, you have to change the water filter.Press the FILTER RESET button for 3 secondsto turn LED off. You need to change the waterfilter approximately every 6 months.

ww WARNING: If a door is open, the dispenserdoes not work.

USING YOUR REFRIGERATOR

ADJUSTING CONTROL SETTINGSGive the refrigerator time to cool down completelybefore making final adjustments. It is best to wait24 hours before doing this. The mid-settingsindicated in the previous section should becorrect for normal household refrigerator usage. The controls are set correctly when milk or juiceis as cold as you like and when ice cream is firm. The refrigerator control functions as thethermostat for the entire appliance (refrigeratorand freezer sections). The higher the numbersetting, the longer the compressor will run tokeep the temperature colder. The freezer controladjusts the cold air flow from the freezer to therefrigerator. Setting the freezer control to a lowertemperature keeps more cold air in the Freezercompartment to make it colder. If you need to adjust temperatures in therefrigerator or freezer, start by adjusting therefrigerator. Then wait 24 hours before checkingthe freezer temperature. If it is too warm or toocold, then adjust the freezer control.Use the settings listed in the chart below as aguide. Always remember to wait at least 24hours between adjustments.

FOOD STORAGE GUIDEWrap or store food in the refrigerator in airtightand moisture-proof material unless otherwisenoted. This prevents food odor and taste transferthroughout the refrigerator. For dated products, check date code to ensure freshness.

STORING FROZEN FOODNOTE: For further information about preparingfood for freezing or food storage times, check afreezer guide or a reliable cookbook.

PackagingSuccessful freezing depends on correctpackaging. When you close and seal thepackage, it must not allow air or moisture in orout. If it does, you could have food odor and tastetransfer throughout the refrigerator and also dryout frozen food.

Packaging recommendations:• Rigid plastic containers with tight-fitting lids

• Straight-sided canning/freezing jars

• Heavy-duty aluminum foil

• Plastic-coated paper

• Non-permeable plastic wraps

• Specified freezer-grade self-sealing plastic bags

Follow package or container instructions forproper freezing methods.

Do not use:• Bread wrappers

• Non-polyethylene plastic containers

• Containers without tight lids

• Wax paper or wax-coated freezer wrap

• Thin, semi-permeable wrap

ww CAUTION: Do not keep beverage cans orplastic food containers in the freezercompartment. They may be break if it freezes.

FreezingYour freezer will not quick-freeze any largequantity of food. Do not put more unfrozen foodinto the freezer than will freeze within 24 hours.Leave enough space in the freezer for air tocirculate around packages. Be careful to leaveenough room at the front so the door can close tightly.

Storage times will vary according to the qualityand type of food, the type of packaging or wrapused (airtight and moisture-proof) and the storagetemperature. Ice crystals inside a sealed packageare normal. This simply means that moisture inthe food and air inside the package havecondensed, creating ice crystals.

NOTE: Allow hot foods to cool at roomtemperature for 30 minutes, then package andfreeze. Cooling hot foods before freezing savesenergy.

REFRIGERATOR SHELVESThe shelves in your refrigerator are adjustable tomeet your individual storage needs. Your modelmay have glass or wire shelves.

Storing similar food items together in yourrefrigerator and adjusting the shelves to fitdifferent heights of items will make finding theexact item you want easier; it will also reduce theamount of time the refrigerator door is open, saving energy.

IMPORTANT: Do not clean glass shelves withwarm water when they are cold. Shelves maybreak if exposed to sudden temperature changesor impact, such as bumping. For your protection, glass shelves are made with tempered glass, which will shatter into small pebble-sized pieces.

ABOUT THE AUTOMATIC ICEMAKER

OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

A newly-installed refrigerator may take12 to 24 hours to begin making ice.

The icemaker will produce eight cubes percycle—approximately 100–130 cubes in a 24-hour period, depending on freezer compartmenttemperature, room temperature, number of dooropenings and other operating conditions.

If the refrigerator is used before the waterconnection is made to the icemaker, set thepower switch to O (off). When the refrigerator has been connected to thewater supply, set the power switch to I (on). The icemaker will fill with water when it cools tofreezing. A newly-installed refrigerator may take12 to 24 hours to begin making ice cubes.

Throw away the first few batches of ice to allowthe water line to clear.

Be sure nothing interferes with the sweep of thefeeler arm.

When the bin fills to the level of the feeler arm,the icemaker will stop producing ice.

It is normal for several cubes to be stucktogether.

If ice is not used frequently, old ice cubes willbecome cloudy, taste stale, and shrink.

NOTE: If the cube size is smaller or larger thanyou expected, you can regulate the size with thecube size button.

Every time you press the cube size button, theindicator moves up on light. The higher the lightposition, the larger the cubes will be. Pressing athighest position returns indicator to lowestposition.

WHEN YOU SHOULD SET THEICEMAKER POWER SWITCH TO O(OFF)• When the water supply will be shut off for

several hours.

• When the ice storage bin is removed for morethan a minute or two.

• When the refrigerator will not be used forseveral days.

NORMAL SOUNDS YOU MAY HEAR• The icemaker water valve will buzz as the

icemaker fills with water. If the power switch isin the I (on) position, it will buzz even if it hasnot yet been hooked up to water. To stop thebuzzing, move the power switch to O (off).NOTE: Keeping the power switch in the I (on)position before the water line is connected candamage the icemaker.

• You will hear the sound of cubes dropping intothe bin and water running in the pipes as theicemaker refills.

PREPARING FOR VACATIONSet the icemaker power switch to O (off) andshut off the water supply to the refrigerator.

If the ambient temperature will drop belowfreezing, have a qualified servicer drain the watersupply system to prevent serious propertydamage due to flooding from ruptured water linesor connections.

CONNECTING THE WATER LINE

BEFORE YOU BEGINThis water line installation is not warranted by therefrigerator or icemaker manufacturer. Followthese instructions carefully to minimize the risk ofexpensive water damage.

Water hammer (water banging in the pipes) inhouse plumbing can cause damage torefrigerator parts and lead to water leakage orflooding. Call a qualified plumber to correct waterhammer before installing the water supply line tothe refrigerator.

To prevent burns and product damage, do nothook up the water line to the hot water line.

If you use your refrigerator before connecting thewater line, make sure the icemaker power switchis in the O (off) position.

Do not install the icemaker tubing in areas wheretemperatures fall below freezing.

When using any electrical device (such as a powerdrill) during installation, be sure the device isdouble- insulated or grounded in a manner toprevent the hazard of electric shock, or is battery-powered.

All installations must be in accordance with localplumbing code requirements.

NOTE: Wear eye protection.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED• Copper Tubing, 1/4″ outer

diameter to connect therefrigerator to the watersupply. Be sure both ends ofthe tubing are cut square.

To determine how much tubing you need:measure the distance from the water valve on theback of the refrigerator to the water supply pipe. Then add 8 feet (2.4 m). Be sure there issufficient extra tubing (about 8 feet [2.4 m] coiledinto 3 turns of about 10″ [25 cm] diameter) toallow the refrigerator to move out from the wallafter installation.

• A cold water supply. The water pressure mustbe between 20 and 120 p.s.i. on models withouta water filter and between 40 and 120 p.s.i. onmodels with a water filter.

• Power drill.• 1/2″″ or adjustable

wrench.• Straight- and

Phillips-bladescrewdriver.

• Two 1/4″″ outerdiametercompression nutsand 2 ferrules(sleeves) to connectthe copper tubing to the shutoff valve and therefrigerator water valve.

• If your existing copperwater line has a flaredfitting at the end, you willneed an adapter (availableat plumbing supply stores)to connect the water line to the refrigerator OR youcan cut off the flared fitting with a tube cutter andthen use a compression fitting.

• Shutoff valve toconnect to the coldwater line. The shutoffvalve should have awater inlet with aminimum inside diameter of 5/32″ at the point ofconnection to the COLD WATER LINE. Saddle-type shutoff valves are included in many watersupply kits. Before purchasing, make sure asaddle-type valve complies with your localplumbing codes.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSInstall the shutoff valve on the nearest frequentlyused drinking water line.

1. SHUT OFF THE MAIN WATER SUPPLYTurn on the nearest faucet to relieve thepressure on the line.

2. CHOOSE THE VALVE LOCATIONChoose a location for the valvethat is easily accessible. It is bestto connect into the side of avertical water pipe. When it isnecessary to connect into ahorizontal water pipe, make theconnection to the top or side, rather than atthe bottom, to avoid drawing off any sedimentfrom the water pipe.

3. DRILL THE HOLE FOR THE VALVEDrill a 1/4″ hole in thewater pipe (even if usinga self-piercing valve)using a sharp bit. Removeany burrs resulting fromdrilling the hole in thepipe. Take care not toallow water to drain into the drill. Failure to drilla 1/4″ hole may result in reduced iceproduction or smaller cubes.

UNDERSTANDING SOUNDS YOUMAY HEARYour new refrigerator may make sounds that yourold one didn’t make. Because the sounds arenew to you, you might be concerned about them. Most of the new sounds are normal. Hardsurfaces, like the floor, walls and cabinets, canmake the sounds seem louder than they actuallyare. The following describes the kinds of soundsand what may be making them.

• The defrost timer will click when the automaticdefrost cycle begins and ends. The thermostatcontrol (or refrigerator control, depending on themodel) will also click when cycling on and off.

• Rattling noises may come from the flow ofrefrigerant, the water line, or items stored on topof the refrigerator.

• Your refrigerator is designed to run moreefficiently to keep your food items at the desiredtemperature. The high efficiency compressor may cause yournew refrigerator to run longer than your old one, andyou may hear a pulsating or high-pitched sound.

• You may hear the evaporator fan motorcirculating the air through the refrigerator andfreezer compartments.

• As each cycle ends, you may hear a gurglingsound due to the refrigerant flowing in yourrefrigerator.

• Contraction and expansion of the inside wallsmay cause a popping noise.

• Water dripping on the defrost heater during adefrost cycle may cause a sizzling sound.

• You may hear air being forced over thecondenser by the condenser fan.

• You may hear water running into the drain panduring the defrost cycle.
