This text book is written keeping in mind the contents of the syllabus of the course ‘Agricultural Microbiology’ taught in BSc.(Ag) degree program all over the country as the syllabus is approved in Deans’ committee at ICAR level. The book will be useful for students and the teachers teaching the course. The book has five sections namely basics of microbiology which deals with fundamental principles of general microbiology. Section two covers ecology of soil biota and organisms in soil liter interfaces. Third section is biogeochemical cycles of plant nutrients discussing microbiological transformation of important plant nutrients and their movement in the soil constituents. Fourth section relates with applied aspect of agriculturally useful microorganisms dealing with biofertilizers and biocontrol agents. Fifth section discusses qualities of drinkable water and food and water borne diseases directly concerned with human hygiene. A chapter on traditional and molecular techniques to study soil microorganisms and their activities in situ and laboratory is also incorporated. The language of the book is simple and subject matter is discussed with help of illustration such as graphs, charts, tables and pictures, keeping readers in mind. In the end of each chapter exercise in the form of questions has been
incorporated to help the student to recapitulate the contents of the chapter.

Botany for NEET and other Medical EntranceKhwaja Salahuddin
The book deals with fungi, deftly defined as “the organisms studied by mycologists”.The fungi are now placed under three kingdoms: Fungi, Protozoa and Chromista/Straminopila due to their phylogenetic heterogeneity. In the last decade, world wide research projects: the “Deep Hypha” and AFTOL (Assembling the Fungal Tree of Life), have provided a phylogenetic classification based on genetic relatedness as evidenced by DNA sequencing data. The ‘Eumycotan fungi’, the ‘Protozoan fungi’ and the ‘Chromistan fungi’ represent distinct monophyletic groups. i.e. each group has a common ancestor and all are its descendants. The classification offered by above mega research projects and accepted by Dictionary of Fungi (2008) and leading international journals, forms the basis of this book. There are many surprises: Fungi and Animalia together form a monophyletic group. But there is no common name for them, and are called as “sister groups”. The mycologists would discover emergence of a new world of ‘modern mycology’ gleaned from recent publications. The book starts with History of Mycology remembering Louis Pasteur’s famous quote “History of science is science itself ”. There are 31 chapters describing the form and function of fungi.
Their symbiotic associations, chemical activities, secondary metabolites, mycotoxins, heterothallism, parasexuality and sex hormones are described under exclusive chapters. Each chapter is followed by a ‘summary’, and ‘test questions’. The book will be indispensable for students of botany, microbiology, plant pathology and medical mycology.

The present book ‘Comprehensive Laboratory Manual of Life Science’, deals with practical trends in modern biological sciences. It furnishes protocols on recent advances in biotechnological methods and aims to cover three most important aspects of this interdisciplinary stream; such as Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular biology. The book contains four sections:1. Introduction: emphasizes on good laboratory practices and etiquettes for beginners; the do’s and don’ts of working in a laboratory, concepts and terminology, etc.2. Instruments: Principle and Precautions: explores commonly used equipments employed in different experiments.3. Experiments: is further divided into three parts: Microbiology with more than 70 experiments, Biochemistry with 62 and Molecular Biology having around 32 detailed protocols, accorded to make the readers proficient in the paramount disciplines of Bio Sciences and Biotechnology.4. Appendix: at the end, a rather comprehensive section that concludes the book. This book is designed to meet the practical requirements of undergraduate and post graduate students of Life Science, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Biochemical Engineering by providing worked out solution to the most commonly practiced experiments prescribed by majority of Indian
Universities. The latest technological developments in the book will be appealing to the researchers and scientists.
