When God Opens a DoorHave you ever experienced God open a

door of opportunity for you? We felt that thrill recently at Hope Channel!

Here we pray every day for God’s guidance and blessing. Specifically, we pray for greater distribution so more and more people can receive God’s end-time message through Hope Channel.

About five years ago, God miraculously opened the door for DIRECTV to carry Hope Channel all across North America. And now another new door of opportunity has us all very excited.

Several weeks ago, we received an unexpected phone call with a unique offer to broadcast Hope Channel on Class A licensed stations in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, and Tampa! This will place Hope Channel on an open broadcast, free-to-air signal with transmitters right in the heart of each city. Anyone with a digital TV will be able to watch Hope Channel.

This will take Hope Channel to 25 million people!

But there’s more. Not only is this a door of opportunity, it is a

miraculous, providential offer. And the cost to seize this opportunity is only $9,500 per month for all four cities (see page 11). The total cost for the two-year contract is $228,000—that’s less than a penny for every person who lives in these cities. What a deal! What a door of opportunity!

I was going astray from God but then I started watching Hope Channel. Now I am finding my way back to Jesus. Please pray for me as I continue to struggle.

Faith. It’s both private and public.

On the one hand, your intimate relationship with Jesus, what you share with Him in the privacy of your heart, is very personal. It is a private experience where there is only enough room for you and your God.

On the other hand, faith demands to be pro-claimed in public. No matter how intimate your relationship with the Lord, your faith walk fuels a passion that cannot be contained within your heart or your life. It’s something that needs to be shouted out and shared with others. If not, your faith becomes stagnant.

Jesus explained it well in the parable about a light under a bushel and the one about the city on a hill. Bottom line, says Jesus, keeping your faith to yourself will only snuff it out. Similarly, when you have your lights on, what’s happening on the inside better be good because everyone can see you!

Hope Channel strives to be like that city on a hill with its lights brightly shining for all to see. With every new channel, with every new region we reach, with every new program, we proclaim even louder God’s good news for a better life today and for eternity. We are here

to help our viewers build a life where Christ is center, where faith grows.

More importantly, we want our viewers to share their faith with others. Every year, just as fall takes an exit with the last of its warm days and just before the nippy frost of winter sets in, Dover,

New Hampshire celebrates its Apple Harvest Festival.

Tens of thousands of people from all over attend the festival to enjoy the beauty of fall and the taste of apples—both of which are New England’s signature treats.

John and Sheryl are Hope Channel ambassadors and attend the Apple Festival not just for the apples and fun but also because they see the crowds of thousands as apple seeds—people ready to be watered by God’s good news and grow in the joy that comes from an intimate relationship with Him.

At the 2013 29th Annual Apple Harvest Festival, John and Sheryl distributed 1000 copies of inspirational books and DVDs and found opportunities to talk to many of the attendees. One per-son told them how grateful she was that her 91-year-old mother found Jesus many years ago and of how her mother’s faith and church community has positively impacted her personal life.

Another encounter was with a father and son who were excited about receiving a DVD that talked about end-time events. A subject of interest to both of them, they now had something to watch together.

People who already had DIRECTV were happy to learn of Hope Channel on DIRECTV. With so many channels to flip through, many were not aware of what they had been missing thus far. “What a joy it was to see people accepting DVDs and books from Hope Channel!” says John.

John and Sheryl have been faithful Hope Channel ambassadors for many years. They have learned first-hand that sharing God’s good news does not have to be a scary or intimidating experi-ence. You never realize just how receptive people are until you offer them something they’ve been looking for.

As John says, “We have done our job and now it is up to the Holy Spirit to convict those who want to know Truth. We are living just before Jesus’ return, so let us help finish the work so we can go Home!”

About a year ago, Todd and Marge’s life took a tragic turn. Marge was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In their

pain and fear, they turned for comfort to their family, church community, and to Hope Channel. Prayers and support poured into their fragile lives and they took courage.

In a story like this woven with illness and faith, one expects to read a traditional happy ending where the cancer is gone through prayer and life is restored to normalcy. That’s not quite what happened to Todd and Marge. After several rounds of chemotherapy, the doctors stopped all treatment, saying they had done all they could. The family had no options left except to wait for death.

“Hope Channel is helping me through this difficult time,” writes Todd. “Your Bible study programs have brought me closer to Christ Jesus. I can now simply pray that my wife is not in pain.”

Except for when Todd attends church, he is by Marge’s side. Together they watch Hope Channel and study God’s Word, determined that their last days together are strengthened through prayer.

Having seen and experienced so much suffering in his life, Ken describes himself as someone with a “destroyed soul

and spirit.”

Ken is a disabled veteran whose life is compromised by age, health, emotional limitations, and poverty. He lives in a remote part of the Ozark mountains and is confined to his home most of the time. Traveling for groceries or to church becomes long and difficult. “I can’t attend church. But that’s okay. Hope Channel is my church,” says Ken with such a positive spirit. “Even though I worship by myself, I feel a huge connection with my spiritual family at Hope Channel.”

When his youngest of three daughters was just 15 months old, Robert’s wife passed away suddenly.

As he struggled to cope as a single parent, he lost his job and then their home. Severe depression followed.

“I felt hopeless, worthless. The only thing I had going for me was my children for whom I had to stay strong,” remembers Robert. Every day was filled with tears and a feeling of helplessness until he happened to find Hope Channel. The more he studied the Bible with the Hope Sabbath School class, the better he felt about his dire situation.

Robert continues to struggle to support and rear his children. But through it all, he feels the presence of God and no longer feels alone or helpless. He is so thankful that Hope Channel came to his rescue at the worst time in his life.

Society of Adventist Communicators present Hope Channel with Awards

Animal Encounters is a new nature documentary hosted by Gabi from Germany, Kezia from Kenya, and Cassila from Brazil. 1. The Reger Smith Jr. Cutting Edge Award for “Hopey to the Rescue,” a light-hearted animation clip submitted as a video proposal for a grant to obtain a new production van. The clip was recognized for its excellent animation, clever story line, choice of music, and good editing.

2. The Young Professional Award went to David Franklin, co-host of Let’s Pray and assistant pastor of the Berea Temple Adventist Church, Baltimore, MD. The award recognizes the achievements of communication professionals under the age of 35. Franklin was particularly noted for his natural communication abilities and high standard of excellence.

3. The Best in Class Award in the category, “Video Story Project,” also for “Hopey to the Rescue.”

4. Honorable Mention in the category, “Print Advertisement” for the advertisement, “Live a Life for and with Jesus,” created for The One Project event book.
