2016 Series: 2-0
THE MATCHUP The Boston Cannons will welcome the Rochester Rattlers this Saturday to
Harvard Stadium. Boston is coming off a 19-18 loss at home versus the
Chesapeake Bayhawks. Rochester went 8-6 in 2016, and come into the game 1-
1 on the 2017 campaign. Both Rochester and Boston missed out on the 2017
postseason and are battling to be in contention this year.
Cannons Captains
The Cannons named Josh Hawkins, Will Manny, Max Seibald, and Justin Turri
as the captains for the 2017 season. Manny and Seibald have been co-captains
since the 2015 season.
Looking Ahead After starting off the 2017 campaign with two road games against the Florida
Launch and Atlanta Blaze, the Cannons are in the midst of a four-game home
stand. The Cannons welcomed Chesapeake last week, and will now welcome
Rochester, New York, and Denver to Boston over the duration of the next
month.
Making History
Midfielder Justin Turri scored his 100th career point in the 2017 season opener
against the Florida Launch. Turri reached the milestone on an assist to Joe
LoCascio’s goal just 1:37 into the third. With four assists in the 18-17 victory,
Turri’s career point total now stands at 102.

Welcoming Back Buchanan
The Cannons welcome back Kevin Buchanan to the 2017 active roster after his
National Lacrosse League 2017-17 campaign with the New England
Blackwolves came to an end last week in the NLL Eastern Conference
Semifinals versus the Toronto Rock. Buchanan is coming off a 21 point 2016
campaign with the Cannons highlighted by 12 goals and 9 assists. Buchanan
also contributed 11 groundballs.
Last Year's Matchup:
The Cannons secured wins in both match-ups with the Rochester Rattlers
during the 2016 campaign. Boston had a thrilling 15-14 victory over the
Rattlers at home on May14th. On July 2nd, the Cannons defeated Rochester
13-7 on the road.
Home Field Advantage:

continue their overall success at home in 2017. The team is 1-2 coming into
week four, and will be defending their home turf this Saturday. The fan base in

BOSTON, MA - The 1-2 Boston Cannons will host the 1-1 Rochester Rattlers in the Cannons second home game
of the season. Throughout the first three games in the Cannons season, the instability on the defensive end of the
field has been an issue.
While Cannons goalie Tyler Fiorito ranks last in the league with 47 goals allowed, the guys in front of him must
step up in order for the Cannons to get back to their winning ways.
Last year, Brodie Merrill came up huge with his miracle 92 yard goal to tie the game and force overtime with no
time left on the clock. The Cannons went on to eventually win the game.
Last weekend, the Cannons offense was electric and scored 18 goals. Typically, that many goals result in a win in a
competitive league, but they fell just short 19-18 to Chesapeake.
With Rochester coming to town, the defense is in a good spot to gain some confidence as the opposing team has
just 22 goals in two games.
Rochester has started two goalies in their first two games, John Galloway and Kristian Alleyne. Both have had
successful starts with Galloway allowing 11 goals and Alleyne with 12 goals given up.
With the impressive defense from Rochester, the Cannons offense will provide them with a huge challenge as they
lead the league with 45 goals scored on the year.
With the worst defense in the league through three games but the best offense, the Cannons have opportunity for
growth.
Look to see how the defense responds this Saturday at 7pm back home at Harvard Stadium.
CANNONS 2017 SEASON PREVIEW
The Boston Cannons 2017 season is set to launch April 23 on the road against the Florida Launch. The Cannons and second year coach Sean Quirk have
high expectations after finishing 8-6 last season and missing the playoffs due to a seven-way tiebreaker.
Last year’s leading scorer with 50 points , Will Manny, an established veteran and team leader, thinks that this year’s group could be special. Manny
and David Emala make up a dynamic duo on attack and a tough task for any opposing defense and combined for 55 goals last season. The Cannons will
return four of their top five point scorers from last season in Manny, Emala, Justin Turri and Max Seibald.
“You can’t get swept by any teams in this league. Especially in the early on with guys still playing in the NLL, college coaches and college draftees.
Winning the early games is something we’re really focused on for us this year. We have a lot of guys coming back. A lot on the defensive side and a
couple of new guys on the offensive side that are going to fill in spots that we needed last year,” said Manny.
Joe Nardella at the X can set the tone for the Cannons playoff hopes early on. Nardella went 181-316 in the faceoff circle last season, a 57% win
percentage. Face-off wins and gaining possession of the ball at the opponent’s end of the field gives teams a big advantage.
Along with the strong faceoff numbers, Nardella had 94 groundballs scooped up. His ability and willingness to do the little things is something that he
has been doing since the collegiate level. The dirty work is not glamorous but goals and wins are a product of the work Nardella has prided himself on
during his career.
“There is nothing more beneficial to a team's rhythm and confidence if they know they can get the ball back after giving up a goal or have the ability to
play make it take it. On the contrary, there is nothing more deflating than giving up a goal and having to play defense again or not being able to maintain
momentum after you score one,” said Nardella.
Cannons goalie, Tyler Fiorito, had the fourth best goals against average in the MLL last season at 13.01 in his first year with the team. He will look to
rebound on those numbers, as his career GAA is 12.48.
A new face will be in front of Fiorito this season with defensemen Matt Landis joining the Cannons for the first time following the trade from his former
team and opening day opponent, the Launch. With the Launch last season, Landis scooped up 25 ground balls and had nine takeaways as one of the
premier young players in the league.
“I’m extremely excited to play with Matt. I think he fills in nicely. Brodie Merrill and Mitch Belisle are very intelligent and experienced defensemen so
having Mullins and Landis there make up the defense very well and we’re capable of defending any of the top-two attackmen in the league,”
said Fiorito.
David Earl, a midfielder, brings a new face to the locker room and will look to fill the void left by Brent Adams who left the Cannons and signed with
the Denver Outlaws. Earl was a teammate of Landis with the Launch and will look to continue to build their chemistry together. A six-year veteran, his
presence in the locker room and experience on the field will be a boost for the team. Earl has had an impressive run thus far with 91 points in his 53
career games.
“Both of them help us from defense to offense and getting our offense the ball back to score more goals this year,” said Manny on the additions of Earl
and Landis.
With most of the core group returning this season, the Cannons are in a good position to make a deep run. However, with the limited time together
opposed to the collegiate level, finding that trust and developing strong in-game communication with the new players is a must.
“Trust is a big thing and continuity. There’s 60 minutes in a game and playing one minute games for 60 minutes is really how you have success in this
league because it’s a battle every night,” said Head Coach Sean Quirk.
The Cannons will look to form chemistry together and reach their potential level quick in order to reach the playoffs and hoist the Steinfeld Trophy for
the second time ever.
*Notes: Former Boston Cannons coach, John Tucker, will return to the team this season as assistant coach and offensive coordinator.
CANNONS 25 MAN ROSTER NOTES
The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today their 25-man active
roster and 6-man practice squad for the start of the 2017 season. Led by returning captains Will Manny and Max Seibald the Cannons will
open the 2017 season on the road this Sunday, April 23 against the Florida Launch.
In addition to Manny and Seibald, 2017 captains also include midfielders Josh Hawkins and Justin Turri. Manny and Seibald are returning for
their 3 rd year as captains while Hawkins and Turri are both first time captains.
“The coaching staff was extremely pleased with our two weeks of training camp,” said Cannons Head Coach Sean Quirk. “We believe that a
lot of continuity was built early on, both on and off the field. We progressed extremely well with getting our systems into place during training
camp to prepare for game 1 and the 2017 season.”
The Cannons will make their return to Harvard Stadium for the 2017 home opener on Saturday, May 6th at 7:00 p.m. against the Chesapeake
Bayhawks.
“We had a very competitive training camp that left the coaches and I with some tough decisions, but we are thrilled with the team we have built
this off-season,” said Cannons GM Kevin Barney. “We have a great group of veterans, along with first and second year players that are ready to
compete starting on April 23.”
The 25-man active roster is highlighted by several key returners including four of the teams’ top five point scorers from last season
in Will Manny, Davey Emala, Justin Turri and Max Seibald. Seibald, Manny, Josh Hawkins, and Tyler Fiorito were 2016 All-Stars.
The Cannons bolstered their roster in the off-season acquiring 2016 NCAA Defensive Player of the Year Matt Landis and 2016 Big 12
Defensive Player of the Year Rob Haus in a trade with Florida. Veteran midfielder David Earl was acquired in a trade with Charlotte and
attackman Scott Bieda and midfielder Alex Zomerfeld were Supplemental Draft picks to make the active roster.
Veterans Mitch Belisle, Kevin Buchanan, and Brodie Merrill will begin the season on the MLL inactive list as they finish their indoor
seasons.
“The staff is very confident in the selection process and the roster that we are announcing today heading into our 2017 campaign. Our belief
heading into this season with our organization is ‘OneTeamOneGoal.’ We could not be more excited to head into our opening game with a group
of men that want to win and be a part of something special this season,” Coach Quirk stated.
