Welcome to Zenica and Kakanj Zenica is the fourth-largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a capital and administrative centre of Zenica – Doboj Canton. It is set in the central part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, just like eye pupil that is probably reason for having the name Zenica (in Bosnian Zenica means eye pupil). It covers the area of 557,5 square kilometres and it is inhabited by 130 000 inhabitants. Zenica is a city set in the valley of the river Bosna, on about 316 m above sea level and it is 70 km away from Sarajevo. Zenica is situated in the middle part of the River Bosna from which the country takes its name, and stands at 316 meters (1,037 ft) above sea level. The source of the River Bosna is in Ilidža near Sarajevo and the confluence with the River Sava is near Bosanski Šamac, which makes the river a natural north-south axis. The Zenica valley itself stretches from Lasva canyon in the south to Vranduk canyon to the north. In the last 100 years, metallurgy and ironworks became the symbol of this city. In the beautiful Zenica valley was built steel city, like a symbol of new industrial world. In the souls of the citizen of Zenica, the city, during the centuries, kept feeling for beauty and tradition, and the humour and hospitality of domestic people make every guest feel welcome. Time zone CET – Central European Time (Europe) GMT +01:00 Population: 130,000 residents. Area: 557,5 km²

Kakanj Kakanj is an industrial town and a municipality in the southern part of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, located north of Visoko, southeast of Zenica, and in the center of the Sarajevo-Zenica basin. Populated areas are mainly located in the valleys of the river Bosna and its right tributaries. Kakanj's terrain is predominantly hilly and mountainous, rich in drinking water, forests, ore fields and other natural resources. It is an important BiH industrial center. There's a thermal power plant (one of four in Bosnia and Herzegovina), cement factory (one of two in Bosnia and Herzegovina), and a lignite coal mine (one of the most successful mines in the whole country). Population: 37.441.
