Cleethorp es Town has come a long way in its relatively short history.

Initiallyformed in 1998 as Lincoln shire Soccer School, it was the brainchil d of formerGrimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success withboth boys and girls across every age group and the club began to grow quickly.

In 2003, the club set up a flagshi p senior team. In the team's first season withinthe Lincolnshire League they secured a credible fourth place finish for whichthe foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded Cleethorpes Town, theclub has redeveloped into an important community outlet. With almost 30teams competing at every level of local and regional foot ball, the Owls are oneof the largest clubs in the area and still continues to expand in all areas. Theexcellent array of teams and high quality coaching saw the club awarded withFootball Association Charter Standard Community Club Status thus furtherunderlining the clubs commitment to providing high quality football coachingalongside enjoyment for youngsters.

The development and evolutio n of Cleethorpes Town Football Club has beenspearheaded by the first team. With the arrival of a new manager during the2010-11 season it saw the club who were languishing in the lower echelons of

the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League go on to finish the season in anamazing third place finish. In addition, the club collected the SupplementaryCup by defeating Heckington United in the final at Sincil Bank. 2011-12 seasonsaw us not only become champions of the Lincs League but also the Challeng eCup winners. Additionally the club was accepted into the NCEL. Our first seasonin the league saw us finish fourth in the table with some impressive victoriesalong the way. It was a steep learning curve for the players, management andstaff.

The 2013-14 started with a change of management and Marcus Newell wasbrought in. The season started off at a medium pace but a long unbeaten streakmean the Owls were top of the league at christmas . However, we had a slowslow to the new year and fell 7 points behind with only a handful of gamesremaining. With the pressure at its highest, others around us felt it most andwe managed to secure the title with one game to go.

The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfil theirimmediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire's most successfullower league football club.

The Owls kept up the pressure and thehigh line and forced a corner 45seconds later. From which, centre-backMatthew Coleman had a great chanceto open the scoring but he headed justwide having rose above his marker.

There was one final chance of the halfand it fell to Oglesby however heheaded over the bar after Luke Mascalldid well on the wing to whip long crossin.

The referee blew his whistle momentslater to signal the end of a veryentertaining first half at the BradleyCommunity Stadium.

Both sides remained unchanged afterthe break as Albion sports restartedthe game. It was Albion who had agreat chance within the opening 30seconds, as the Owls seemed to switchoff. The ball pinged around the box,but eventually it fell to Delroy Faceybut he swung and missed the ballcompletely however it then fell toJames Grogan but his shot was blockedby Coleman saving a certain goal.

The second half had barely gotunde rway and Albi on had anotheropportunity as Ferdinand Annor skeweda shot wide of the mark from 15 yardsout.

The Owls never seemed to get off themark in the opening minutes after thebreak and once more it was Albion whospur ned two grea t cha nces in 30seconds. It was in the 53rd minute asDanny Facey first saw his one-on-oneshot blocked by Beattie then secondslater he completely missed the targetfrom 18 yards with the Owls defendersscrambling backwards.

The pressure was relieved a fewminutes later as Oglesby tested thekeepers skills from distance but hewas more than equal to it on thisoccasion.

The Owls continued to press forward inthis stage of the game and just as thehour mark elapsed Robertson managedto skew a shot wide after Oglesby had

played a delicious cross-field ball to his fellowwinger.

The Owls made their firstsubst ituti on bring ing onJack Debnam and taking offRobertson in an attempt tomix things up. Just a fewminutes later, the tired lookingGrant was also replaced, byChris Funnell, this time.

    T h e c h a n g e s m a d e a nimmediate impact with Debnamand Funnell causing havoc asthey tried to break the offsidetrap on many occasions.

With the game having only 15minutes left, and Albion makingtwo changes themselves, it wasthe visitors who where startingto have the better chances. Inthe 76th minute, Danny Faceywas guilty of missing a sitterfrom inside the area.

The pressure was mounting, butit was the Owls on the up threeminutes later as Oglesby wentclose from distance. It was thenFunne l l who saw h i s sho tdeflected wide after Debnamhad held the ball up well andplayed it into his path.

With the final five minutesa p p r o a c h i n g , R i c h a r d s o n ,Funnell and Debnam all hadgood chances but failed to hitthe target on each occasions. At the other end, Delroy Faceyand Cusack also both cameclose to stealing the victory butthe quality of finishing waslacking from both side.

The game looked like it wasgoing to end 0-0, however bothsides had a chance to win it atthe end but only one tooktheres. The first chance fell toHanslip in the 92nd minute,Debnam played a diagonal ballin the path of Hanslip, whoturned well but was stretchingas he shot just inches wide ofthe mark.

The final whistle came near enoughstraight from the kick-off giving theOwls no chance to reply. The win forAlbion Sports leaves them 12th in thetable whilst the Owls finish the day in6th. A point would have been fairhowever, it was not meant to be andwe wish Albion Sports luck for the restof the season. The lads can be proud ofthemselves for their valiant effort thisevening.

Cleethorpes Town fell to a narrowdefeat this evening to Albion Sports intheir first home NCEL Premier Divisiontie. A 94th minute penalty settled thetie after it looked like the points wereshared . Alex Cusack was the man whotook responsibility deep into injury whocoolly slotted the ball past Owls keeperBrad Beattie.

The Owls made two changes to thestarting line-up from their 6-2 win atthe weekend over Liversedge. LawrenceHeward came in for the injured LeeMcFarland (warm-up injury) and JackRichardson replaced the unavailableAlex Flett.

Albion on the other hand started withtwo ex-professional players in the formof ex-Bolton, Hull City and RotherhamUnited striker Delroy Facey and veteranwinger Lee Elam, formerly of Southport,Yeovil Town and Exeter City to name afew.

The match started out with the visitors

penning the Owls inside their own halfhowever it was the hosts who had thefirst real chance of the game. JonathanOglesby shot on sight from 25 yards butAlbions keeper Arron Brian was on handto save the shot.

The first chance for the visitors camewith six minutes on the clock as DelroyFacey headed narrowly over the barfrom a corner delivered from the right.

The pressure kept on mounting for theOwls however breaking forward was notan issue as Brody Robertsons bursts ofpace seem to cause Albion some troublewhen counter-attackin g. This wasevident when with just 9 minutes on the

clock, Robertson linked wellwith captain Darren Hanslipinside the box, but the refereeblew for a foul on the keeper

after minimal contact by thecaptain with the goal gaping.

At the other end, Beattie hadto think quickly when Elamtried to curl a shot past thekeeper but he had seen it earlyand leapt to palm the shotaway to safety.

Only three minutes later, Elamw a s o nc e a g ai n c a u s i n g anuisance as he tried to chipBeattie from just outside thearea but the back peddlingBeattie was just quick enoughto grab the ball out of the nightsky.

Louis Grant, starting his secondgame of the season, was next on handto test Albions keeper. He performed apirouette with the ball, creating enough

room to unleash a rasping effort from20 yards but the keeper was more thanequal to it.

The hosts kept putting pressure onAlbion and had it not being for thede f end ing o f J am es F i r t h t henRobertson would surely of scored withthe goal at his mercy.

Robertson was again involved in the21st minute but this time at the wrongend as he lost possession in a dangerousarea just outside the box to Elam but he

could not produce anything magical ashis shot was tame and straight atBeattie.

The ball was in the back of the net justthree minutes later, but the joy wasshort lived as the linesman on the farside had his flag up for offside after anOglesby cross was flicked on by top goalscorer Marc Cooper but Grant was in anadvance positi on according to theofficial.

Grant was fouled 25 yards out momentslater and it was Cooper who took aimafter scoring two free kicks on Saturday. However this one was off target and notin the back of the net like the othertwo was.

Elam was guilty of missing a greatchance as the clock ticked over the 30minute marker as he found himself

inside the box, but his angled shot withthe outside of the boot was wide of themark with Beattie looking on helpless.

With only eight minutes of the halfremaining tired legs were playing theirpart and Oglesby took full advantage ofthis as he travelled 40 yards with theball but his skills on the way was notmatched by his finish as it went wide ofthe mark.

Borrowash Victoria AFC was founded inthe summer of 1911. Like many clubs ofthe time Borrowash did not start with ablaze of glory. Popular belief is that theonly illumination for the inauguralmeeting was the gas-lights of Elm Street. However this wasnt to put the fledglingmembers off. They secured a pitch,Coffee Joes Field, and changingfacilities. Though opposing teams musthave wondered at the mile and a half

    walk between the two.

From this modest start the club enjoyed achallenging future. Two World Wars haltedplay, but on each occasion the clubreformed once peace returned. Off-fieldchallenges saw the club disband andreform on three occasions. Despite all ofthis the will of the locals to have afootball team represent their villageremained unchecked. Maybe that is whatmakes the club motto so relevant Palma

non sine pulvere No Victory withouteffort.

The present club commenced in 1963when a group led by Tony Beardsley tiredof the restrictions of the youth league. With the support of Albert Anderton andNeville Hardy the new team startedplaying in the depths of Section E of theDerby Welfare League. The new team waschristened, Borrowash Victoria Amateur

Football Club, or simply The Vics to thelocals.

Only three years later, and following earlysuccesses in both league and cup, thepopularity of the club lead to the creationof a reserve team. One major differenceback then was that the teams didnt havea manager and it was not until January1968 that the first manager wasappointed, one Mr Arnold Grace. He ledthe team to promotion in his opening

season and developed the teams standingtremendously until he left the club in1968 due to ill health. Arnold did nothowever retire from The Vics entirely andreturned as chairman in 1975.

No doubt it was that spirit thatencouraged ex-international Alan Hintonto sign for the club in 1977, an event thatsaw the TV cameras at a Vics game for thefirst and only time. Incidentally, Alan was

spotted by the cameras at the end of thegame taking the nets down. I doubt any ofus will see such a turn of events again.

The modern era of sponsorship finallyreached Borrowash in time for the1977/78 season, Mr P Siddall a localbuilding contractor. In exchange forbearing Siddalls name on the shirts, MrSiddall provided funds and a concretefloor in the equipment hut. Ever practicalat The Vics.

The 1977/78 season also provided theclubs first major championship, the EastMidlands Regional League PremierDivision. However things looked dicey atthe end of the 1980/81 season with amass of resignations from the committee. As always The Vics pulled through and aface from today made his entrance to thestage. Ian Anderson turned from playingstaff to president (and sponsor).

The most challenging episode in therecent history of the club also happenedunder Ians reign. In 1983 the club werethreatened with expulsion from theleague due to settlement of a drain belowthe pitch making it unplayable. In thosecircumstances many a club has folded butThe Vics rolled up their sleeves, repairedthe pitch for the remainder of the seasonbefore moving to their new and currenthome, The Bowl.

    I r ece ived a phone ca l l l a t e onen igh t be fore we p layed Hal lam FCabout jo in ing the Owls , 24 hoursla te r I knew I wanted to move . . .

    FACT FILE:

You joined the Owls in January followinga transfer from local rivals GrimsbyBorough, how did the move come about?I received a phone call about 11pm on theFriday night before we played Hallam athome and after the game I knew were Iwanted I be.

Do you like to train or do you prefer to beon the pitch kicking a ball about? Howdoes work effect your training?

I don't mind training at all. The sessions arealways good ones. I'm fortunate enoughwork hasn't really affected me training orplaying to much.

So, take me back to the beginning, howdid you rst get into football?I started playing from a young age, abouttwo years old if I remember correctly and itkind of went from there.

It took you a while to get scoring sinceyour move, was it a relief to nally score(Even though we actually lost the game)?Yes it was a big relief to get the goal butobviously results come rst.

You played in various positions acrossthe front line during the end of theseason, what is this your preferredposition?

Denitely up top. I don't mind playinganywhere as long as I'm playing butdenitely up top if I had the choice.

Winning the league must of been great, tell me about the emotions you wentthrough?Obviously it was great winning the league. Ihad only been here since January but it wasa great achievement from the lads.

Marcus has had a successful time as the'gaffer', why do you think this is?Marcus is great, a top top manager.Denitely the best I have played for and allthe lads have a lot of respect for him.

What can we expect from The Owls thisseason, mid-table? Top 6? Promotion?I'd like to say promotion again. There is agreat squad here and all the lads want toplay as high as we possibly can.

Lastly, 2 goals in 13 games hasn't been agreat return, what can we expect fromyou this season? No, a real poor return to be honest. One Iwas denitely ashamed of. But Ive beentraining since early June and feel condentthat I can score goals at any level. My aim isto deantly score a lot more goals than I didlast year.
