More than 150 objects and works of art reveal Warhol’s process and some of the most understudied aspects of his career.

Picturing America Gallery 3Though February 9, 2020Capturing the sweeping visual imagery of the original miniseries “Lonesome Dove”, this exhibition presents 55 sepia toned photographs originally taken during the filming by Bill Wittliff.

7:00 pm – Lecture: James Warhola – Bergman TheatreGuests are invited to a lecture with artist and illustrator James Warhola, the nephew of Andy Warhol. Warhola has illustrated over a dozen children’s books. He will share the influence Uncle Andy had on his childhood and his career.

His subject matter spans genres from Western landscape to cowboy pop. Schenck will discuss his art and love of the west relative to Warhol’s.11:30 am – TBD12:30 pm – Enjoy lunch at the Booth Cafe’ or one of our local eateries.2:00 pm – Dr. Andrew Patrick Nelson – Warhol’s Western MoviesDr. Andrew Patrick Nelson is a historian of American cinema and culture, author, film programmer and media commentator. He will discuss the Western movies Warhol made during his film making career.3:00 pm – James Warhola – Remembering Visits at Uncle Andy’sJames Warhola is an illustrator and author of children’s books. He is also the nephew of Andy Warhol. He will discuss his visits to Uncle Andy’s house as described in his book “Uncle Andy’s”

HIGH SCHOOL CHALK ART COMPETITION
SONS OF THE PIONEERSSons of the Pioneers now featuring Roy “Dusty” Rogers, Jr. is a premier Western singing group who, for over 80 years, have musically painted unforgettable images and stories of horses, cattle, cowboys, “night herds”, tall timber, cool water, canyons and prairies. Their original songs like “Tumbling Tumbleweeds”, “Cool Water” and “Ghost Riders in the Sky” are classics forever entwined into the lore and mystique of the American West. Both “Tumbleweeds” and “Cool Water” have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Saturday, October 26, 7:00 pm at the Grand Theatre. Presented by South 93.

Watch as area high school chalk art teams compete in our Annual High School Chalk Art Competition. Student teams will each create a 4’x4’ chalk art piece on Saturday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. This year’s theme is “Warhol” which celebrates our special exhibition Warhol and the West. Awards will be announced at 2:00 pm. (North Gate Roadway)
