I was blown away by the community spirit shown throughout the day and the sheer number of special Dads, Uncles and Granddads who were able to attend. A special thank you goes to our Year 6 leaders. These wonderful students displayed school pride as they served over 150 breakfasts throughout the morning. We have new signage on our fences near each school gate: We appreciate that all visitors follow the above directions. In addition, we have improved our visitor passes. Once signed in, visitors will receive a red pass to wear on a lanyard. These new procedures will ensure that all visitors are clearly identifiable and now meet school WHS. I ask for your support in adhering to updated procedures. All visitors not meeting WHS signing in procedures will be asked to report to the office immediately or leave the school grounds. In addition to our new visitor procedures parents are starting to arrive too early for pick up and waiting on school grounds under the cola. Parent feedback from the Disco Forum suggested that the seated area behind the hall could be an appropriate waiting space for parents. I am happy to support parents waiting for children in this area from 2:50pm. Please do not arrive any earlier, visitors before this time will be asked to sign in at the office. DUGS Day On September 5

th it was DUGS Day (Dads, Uncles

and Granddads day). The day kicked off with an amazing bacon and egg breakfast cooked by the wonderful teachers and served by some of the amazing Year 6 students. Soon after the students split up into their family groups to do some activities with the special DUGS, set up by the teachers. Some of the activities included: making paper aero planes, Frisbee games and the dangerous egg drop. At 10 o’clock everyone was called into the hall for an assembly put on by the school leaders. The assembly really showed the DUGS how students at Booragul Public School strive for their best and achieve great things. The day came to a close with the recess break where students could spend time with their DUGS and some lucky students even got a tasty treat from the canteen. This day will be one to remember for all students of Booragul Public School. It really showed the DUGS what amazing students we have here. All of this would not have been possible without the amazing staff and teachers. A special mention to Mrs Pallas, Mrs Monaghan and Mr Lewis for their organisation and being at school from 6 o’clock this morning and setting up. Everyone had a great time and we cannot wait for next year’s DUGS Day!!! By Danu Tanner, Phebe Lunn-McNally and Alexa Pearce.

Blaise Grew and Blake Avery are our junior representatives with Caleb Bell and Brock Gillet-Trovato our senior representatives. Regional winners from each division will proceed to the State Final held at the ABC Centre in Sydney. Blaise, Blake, Caleb and Brock, congratulations and very best wishes. We are extremely proud of you and hope you have a wonderful, although tiring day. Good Luck!!!! Lyn Stevens

Library News

A great big THANK YOU to Michelle Holdsworth for knitting an amazing snake for our library. It is our very own “Rainbow Serpent”. We need your help! – we have several library books that are overdue or missing. Could you please check in the holidays. Could you also please help your child to remember their library days:- Tuesday – 1/2H, 2/3H, 5/6P Wednesday – K/1M, 3/4J Thursday – K/1G, 3/4L, 6E Friday – 4/5G Thank you Debby Oliver - Librarian

Attendance Tip

Encourage your child to talk about concerns they have that may affect school attendance. Call upon members of the family, friends, their classroom teacher or the School Counsellor. Ask for help before your child’s attendance becomes a big problem – seek support from the school, friends or community agencies. If your child says they are not feeling well in the morning and then have a ‘miraculous recovery’ around 10am – bring them to school. This shows you place a high priority on education and also they will have missed only part of the day. Putting on a ‘sick act’ is hard to do for a whole day, and be reassured, the school will contact you if they are not well. Finally – be firm and consistent in establishing regular patterns of attendance at school.

We are focusing on the Value of

RESILIENCE

I will keep trying and I won’t give up

Kindergarten 2015 – Information Afternoon and Orientation Dates On Wednesday 10th September at 3:30pm, we will be holding our parent information afternoon for children enrolling in Kindergarten at Booragul Public School in 2015. This will be held in the library. We will discuss what to expect in your child’s first year at school, have a uniform display, and give you the chance to sign up for school banking and more. You will also meet various members of our teaching and non-teaching staff and be able to ask any questions you may have. Following this, there will be three orientation sessions at the start of Term 4: Wednesday 22nd October, Wednesday 29th October and Wednesday 5th November. All of these sessions will run from approximately 9:00 - 11:00am, with two parent workshops being held during that time on the 29th October and 5th November. Your child will meet their senior ‘buddy’ and start to build a relationship with them so they have a familiar friendly face when they start in 2015. We will also have a performance for your enjoyment and a celebratory party at the conclusion of the orientation sessions. As out-of-area enrolments need to be approved by a committee, if you know of anyone seeking enrolment outside our designated area, please ask them to contact the school office as soon as possible. Similarly if you have a child who is in our area, please let the office know they will be attending in 2015 as this helps us with our staffing arrangements, buddy program and resources. If you have any questions, please come and speak with me. Sharon Morris Assistant Principal

NAIDOC Day Celebration will be held on Friday, 19th September – last day of Term 3.

“Let’s Bridge the Gap” with Fred Reid

$4.00 per student has been charged to family

invoices.

Parents are invited to assembly at 2:15pm on this day. Please note this will replace our 9:00am assembly.

Road Safety KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER

Driving near school buses There is a 40km/h speed limit for traffic passing a school bus that is setting down or picking up school children. This speed limit is for all traffic travelling in the same direction as the bus, whether the bus is stationary or moving. The 40km/h speed limit must be obeyed when the rear wig wag lights on the bus flash. Flashing headlights on these buses also alert oncoming motorists that children are close by. As a driver, remember: When the lights on the bus are flashing, you must slow down to 40km/h. Never park in or near a bus stop or bus zone.
