We'd also like to thank Nurse Amy Hargrove for keepingall the kids at Boon well-cared-for. She had to administer a lot of allergy medicine (andother types, too), since 100+ kids were away from their families for 3 days!

Lastly, a BIG thank you to Susan Guest and Libby Martin for coordinating the 5thGrade Sky Ranch field trip. There's a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into thisyearly trip to make it such a success for the kids, chaperones and staff.

Congratulations to Theresa Mata for her accounting role inthe Allen ISD Administration building and to Cathy Slaglewho has assumed Theresa Mata's former responsibilities inthe Boon office.

Tomorrow, September 30, is the last day of the bookdrive.

Please join in helping promote literacy by donating new,or gently used, books. All donations will go to AllenCommunity Outreach for holiday bags that will bedistributed in December to under-privileged children in Allen.

Last Chance to Pre-Order Chili Tickets

Pre-Order Ticket Form deadline is Friday, Sept. 30. ThePTA General Meeting will begin at 6pm; Super Chili Bowlbegins at 6:30pm. Join us for the spiciest Boon event ofthe year!

We are PRE-SELLING Chili Bowl Tickets. There will be two "VIP Fast Track Entrances" for families who purchase ticketsprior to the event. Order your tickets early by completing the Pre-Order Ticket Form and returning it(with a check made payable to "Boon PTA") to your student's home roomteacher.Pre-Order tickets will be available until Friday, September 30.Purchased tickets will be sent home with your student Wednesday, October 5.

Bookaneer Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will be at our school October 3rd -7th from 7:30am-3:30pm. The Book Fair will also be open duringthe Boon Super Chili Bowl on October 6.

Come join us to promote reading at Boon! Giving kids access togood books and the opportunity to choose their own books willmotivate them to read more. The more kids practice reading, the better they'll get. Nowis the time! Plus, all funds raised from the book fair will go back to stock the BoonLibrary and put equipment in the classrooms. Our new Book Fair theme for fall 2016 is "Bookaneer: Where books are the treasure!"This season's Book Fair will be an exciting celebration full of fun activities and hundredsof books kids want to read.

If you have some time to help us run our Book Fair, please volunteer. Volunteering is afun way for family members to look through the hundreds of books available all whilehelping your Boon!

Book Fair Fall 2016

Chili Bowl "Game Day" Activities

Boon's Annual Super Chili Bowl will be held on Thursday,October 6. This event is a fall favorite with Boon families.Enjoy an endless bowl of chili for $2 (more than 35 recipes tochoose from) and add a grilled Hotdog for $1. Kona Ice will beon the scene to round out your evening dining experience.

"Pre-Game Coverage" (PTA Meeting) begins at 6pm

"Tailgate Party" (Chili Bowl) begins at 6:30pm

"Stadium Fun" DJ and festive activities in front of Boon, near the tailgating, tokeep the party going. Prizes will be awarded.

Kona Ice will be on site to "sweeten" the evening.

"Concession Stand" Candy bars and snacks will be sold as a fundraiser for the 6thgrade class.

"Souvenir Shop" Boon's newly designed spiritwear will be available to purchase.

"Media Box" Stop by the MPR room to purchase your student's favoritescholastic book from the Boon Book Fair.

Chili volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Please sign up for a 30minute shift to sell tickets, judge chili, pass out hot dogs, help setup or take down.Volunteer to help/sign up online, or email Beth Morse or Kelly Beaman (Chili Co-Chairs) to find out how you can be a part of the evening.

Boon Volunteers

Boon is an incredible school for our children because of volunteers like YOU. Boon PTAis always looking for volunteers to contribute their time and talents to the manyactivities we sponsor throughout the year. Even if you only have an hour or two, hereand there, there is a role for you!

Complete this on-line Volunteer Form (the same as the green form handed out at Meetthe Teacher) and let us know how you would like to help.

Room moms will also be reaching out to you shortly to volunteer in your child'sclassroom. Remember: All volunteers must complete a background check online viaAllen ISD Volunteer Registration.

Walk to School Day

Join the Allen community in celebrating International Walkto School Day on Wednesday, October 5. Event starts at7:30am and goes until 8am. Take some time to promotehealth, safety, and the welfare of our environment by

walking with your child to school. If you can't walk to school together, take a walk laterin the day.

Every student that powers themselves to school (Walk, Scooter, Bike, etc.) on Walk toSchool Day will receive a small prize from a Boon Parent Volunteer. So, get up and getmoving on October 5! You'll feel better and you can help save our Environment byreducing carbon dioxide emissions!

Thank You Cleanup Volunteers

On Saturday, September 24, the Boon EnvironmentalClub led the fall creek cleanup in Twin Creeks. This eventis a great way to express appreciation and passion for ourcommunity and our creek. There will be another creekcleanup on Saturday, 11/12/16, if you were unable toattend this one.

Thank you to the 19 students and 10 adults who came outto help keep our city's creeks clean.

Patriot Press, Boon PTA's in house publishing center forstudents, is up and running. The first 20 authors to submit astory along with the proper paper work will receive a coupon for

a free ice cream at the Boon cafeteria.

Students in grades K-6 are invited to submit their best original stories for publication.Authors may bring their stories to the Boon Library where they will receive a form. Thisform must be completed and signed by both the student's teacher and parent. Thestudent can then submit the manuscript and completed form.

Stories can be up to five handwritten pages and should not contain any violence orinappropriate language. A volunteer editor will meet with each author during schoolhours to complete the publishing process. All stories will be made into a hard coverbook and become property of the Boon Elementary Library until the student leaves(graduates or moves). Parents will also be given the opportunity to purchase additionalcopies of the student's book.

The submission deadline is Friday, November 18, 2016.

The Patriot Press program is always looking for volunteers to help edit and type thestudent's stories. It is a wonderful opportunity to work with the students or volunteerfrom home. It is a flexible schedule.
