Our plan is to have weekly prize drawings for kids who turn in reading slips, and likely a handful of program events later in the summer, once we’re moved in to the new space. Programs on hold during space crunch While our expansion and renovation is a source of excitement for both the staff and our patrons,

we’re sad to say that we have to put some of our beloved programs on hold over the coming months. Our new book for discussion is The Boys In The Boat by Daniel James Brown. The discussion is planned for 7 p.m. on Monday, March 7. With our Stewart Cellers Foundation grant we have gotten five new floor puzzles for our children’s activities area and musical instruments for our preschool story hour, as well as three new big books for our children's collection.

EXPANSION - Continued from front page

up in the expansion, some of the lighting fixtures have gone in, and the new front desk construction is well underway. Framing for the walls of the new local history rooms is coming. Windows were installed at the end of January. While quarters have gotten much closer inside the library, we are anticipating only having to close for a few days whenever the painting and carpeting for both parts of the library is completed. Otherwise we’ll be open for business as usual.

Staff also met with Dick Edgcomb and Marianne Gardiner from The Office for furniture selection. The newly renovated library promises to have plenty of seating for folks who wish to enjoy our space.

We’ve had a lot of helping hands when it comes to moving things around and out of the library, so our thanks goes out to: students of Buffalo High School, Johnson County project manager Kim Glasgow and the county employees; and sculptor Mike Thomas for loaning us the space at his studio, where we can keep our books secure during the transition.

Thank you for your patience as our project may disrupt what is usually a relaxed atmosphere at the Johnson County Library.

This schematic does not show the final position of shelves and furniture, but rather gives a rough idea of how the space can be used.
