WATERWater is our most basic need. Yet not everyone is able to simply turn on the tap for a fresh glass of water to quench their thirst.

Women and children around the world spend millions of hours collecting water, which is often polluted and causes sickness.

Children miss valuable school time, due to water-related illnesses. Mothers cannot look after their children and family because of the heavy burden of collecting water. Girls can be subjected to sexual assault by predators while walking long distances for water.

Lack of water doesn’t only affect a person’s health, but a person’s whole future.

There are approximately 800 million people that do not have clean drinking water. Every year, 1.4 million children die due to water-related diseases.

Often times, these deaths are preventable through proper hygiene, sanitation and oral rehydration.

According to the UN, diseases from unsafe water and the lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

The fact that 1 out of 10 people do not have water is not right.

It is an injustice.

JUSTICEWATER was founded on the words hope and change. We believed change could be a reality. We believed that if we could find ways to inspire hope in places that needed clean water, change would come from within.

Our desire was to use simple technologies, which were available within the nations we were working. Our desire was to give a hand up and equip local people in their countries to bring solutions to the water crisis. As we have trained and partnered with people in Africa, Asia and Central America, we have witnessed the amazing stories of those suffering from the water crisis, bringing the solutions themselves.

TRAININGWe believe training is one of the most valuable and effective ways of multiplying water projects around the world. As the quote goes “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime”, we work to equip and empower people to create a better future for themselves and their families. People learn how to secure safe water sources and to maintain a hygienic and sanitary lifestyle - all utilizing sustainable technologies.

PROJECTSShort term teams from Youth With A Mission travel to underdeveloped countries to train local people and build rain catchment tanks, bio sand filters and latrines for 2-3 months. All of our teams are made up of volunteers who are motivated by compassion and who selflessly serve those in need. These teams work hand-in-hand with local people on every project, empowering those who will carry on the projects even after the teams leave.

AWARENESS AND FUNDRAISINGJUSTICEWATER strives to bring attention to this devastating crisis. We hope to inspire people to become a part of the solution. There is something each of us can do to bring an end to innocent children dying of water-related sicknesses.

RAIN CATCHMENT TANKSRain is a free, clean and renewable resource. Harvesting rain water for drinking is a great option in various countries in South East Asia, Central Africa and South America, where rain is plentiful.

We build a large ferro-cement tank by a house, school or orphanage, and collect the rain water that comes off the roof using gutters that are connected to the tank.

EDUCATIONIt’s not about doing projects ourselves. In all that we do, we focus on educating and training the local people with life-giving technologies so that they themselves can bring the change.

We help people understand the importance of clean water, hygiene and sanitation; how water gets contaminated and how to treat drinking water.

BIO SAND FILTERSA large container is filled with coarse sand and water. After 20-30 days, a friendly micro-organic layer develops on the top portion of the sand.

Dirty water is poured into the top of the filter. The water flows through the bio layer and then through the deep layer of sand. By the time it comes out of the filter up to 99% of pathogens are eliminated, making it safe to drink.

TIPPY TAPS & SINKSIn places where water is scarce, people don’t want to use what little water they have for hygiene. We can help communities build a water tap system that dispenses only the necessary amount of water for hand washing.

A sink can be created using a little cement and PVC pipes to collect the water from hand-washing.

DRILLED WELLSWhen rain catchment tanks are not a viable option in a country, JUSTICEWATER parters with like-minded organizations to drill a well.

LITTLE RIPPLES CURRICULUMThis material has been used in orphanages and schools around the world to develop healthy habits for new generations. When you educate a child, you are leaving them with something lasting. Practical training in the areas of sanitation, hygiene and water safety is a gift that will continue to give!

LATRINES & SEPTIC TANKSIn order to prevent contamination, we teach households how to build latrines and septic tanks in simple and affordable ways.

RIPPLE EFFECT MANUALThe Ripple Effect is an 18-hour water development course by JUSTICEWATER. Course content includes step-by-step guides to building rain catchment tanks, hand pumps, bio-sand filters, and latrines. It also provides practical training on how to safely disinfect water and proper hygiene practices.

THE LIVING WATERJames 2:14-17 shows us that we cannot neglect a person’s physical needs while speaking of God’s love. As we work with communities on water, sanitation and hygiene, we are fully committed to share about the Living Water, Jesus Christ.

We believe that giving the gift of clean water reveals Christ’s heart to those who are thirsty, those who have been walking miles and miles for drinking water, and to those who have been getting sick from dirty water.
