Book Review Alan L. Jacobson and William C. Donlon (eds): Headache and Facial Pain - Diagnosis and Management. New York: Raven Press, 1990. This is a book which deals with pain in the head, face and neck. The initial chapter covers the anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of orofacial pain and is followed by one on the psychologic and behavioural aspects of patients with chronic facia l pain. Migraine, cluster headaches and the neuralgias are each dealt with in separate chapters. It is a pity that a book published in 1990 should not include the International Headache Society's Classification but still quotes the 1962 Ad Hoc Commit tee on the Classification of Headache. The interest of the book lies in the way the authors have dealt with pain arising in the teeth, the ears, the eyes and the neck. The chapter on Fibromyalgia and Temporomandibular Arthralgia is particularly helpful as not only are there good descripti ons of the conditions but details of the radiological changes and treatment are also given. In the chapter on the paranasal sinuses the difficulties of the differential diagnoses of sinus headache are discussed, as are the different types of headache in acute and chronic sinusitis.
