I!"ro*)&"#o!Sam is an 11 year old kid, but hes not as normal as every kid in the world, Sam

has leukemia, he collects stories and fantastic facts.

When he is challenged to write a book, Sam begins to list all the things he wants to

do before he dies, like setting a world record, watch a horror movie, kiss a girl, and

just being a teenager, all of which seem impossible. But with the help of his best

friend, eli!, Sam starts to figure out that maybe all those things that at first

seemed impossible, werent that hard to achieve now.

"owever, what Sam really wants is the answers to the #uestions nobody will

answer.

1evelo.$e!"Sam is a kid who loves writing fact lists about everything, including

himself.

"es eleven years old- everything was fine in his life until years ago

he got terminal leukemia. /ow hes being homeschooled with a teacher

called &rs. Willis, a really fun teacher, they always blow up stuff for

every science class they have.

"e hasnt seen his friends for a long time, but he has a best friend

called eli!. eli! is years older than Sam, but theyve got one thing

in common, theyre both ill. eli! and Sam take homeschool together.

hey only have school ) days a week, &ondays, Wednesdays and

ridays at the living room. eli! is not into learning anything- he

actually doesnt care if he learns something. But in the other side,

theres Sam, which is always with all these #uestions without answers,

which actually none of us could answer.

Sams younger sister, +lla, is always refusing to go to school, real

school, shes always complaining about wanting to stay at her house

just like Sam does. 0 bet she wouldnt want to be at her house every

day, all day long if she knew how being ill like Sam felt like.

(nd then theres Sams mum and dad. "is mum is always stressed.

She is always worried about how Sam is feeling, she barely lets him

breathe. "es dad is just the same as her mum, stressed, but thedifference is that he does it in a #uieter way. ou see, hes always

behind his daily newspaper, especially in the mornings- sitting on his

old brown sofa, with his grandpa eyeglasses reading his newspaper

while hes eating breakfast. (nd thats basically how Sams house

works.

%n one sunny Wednesday, &rs. Willis decided it would be a good idea

to assign the guys a kind of different work to do- write their own book.

hey could do it about anything they wanted to, superheroes, a funny

book, a scary book, it didnt really matter what the book would be

about, the only goal was to take the boys out of their comfort23one, and

do something they werent used to, especially eli!, who was always

looking for something new to blow off.

Sam thought it would be cool to write a book about himself. ull of

facts, fun2facts, stories that have happened to him and all kinds of

things.

heres a chapter on his book that tells how he met eli!. hey were

both at the hospital, Sam had been there for si! whole weeks.

Sam was lying on bed rela!ed, with nothing to do but watch tv, it was a

cloudy day and the air conditioner wasnt helping, so he was all co3y,

until he saw a wheel chaired kid through the corridors, heading to the

nurse station, he was going really fast, which caught Sams attention,

he sat on the bed looking cautiously how eli! went through the

corridors from one side to another with no one paying any attention to

what was happening.

eli! stopped right in front of Sams room, both staring at each other-

eli! decided to go in, the kept staring at each other. eli! looked

skinny and a little older than Sam, as he came in, he could see that

eli! had lost his hair too, so he figured out he also had cancer.

eli! left the room again, but Sam knew he was going to see him

again. eli! then invited him to go wherever he was going. hey then

both headed to the nurse station, the reason why eli! wanted to go

there is because theres a machine full of groceries and cigarettes.

eli! smokes, so he wanted a cigarette pack, but he wasnt allowed to

buy them so he needed to convince someone to buy it for him.

0t wasnt that easy to convince people but he finally found a girl that

bought it for him, since then, Sam and eli! had been best friends.

%n a school day, Sam and eli! began to list things they would want to

do. eli! listed to visit de 4rand 5anyon, be rich and famous, and see

4reen *ay in concert again, 4reen *ay was his favorite band, the first

time he went to a concert with his brother it was the best day of his

entire life.

Sams list was #uite different.

Sams list included being a famous scientist, breaking a world record,

watching a horror movie, 0 would suggest 60nsidious7, since its my

favorite horror movie. "e also wanted to go up down2escalators, and

go down up2escalators- to see a ghost, riding in an airship, and going

on a spaceship and watching earth from the moon, and last, being a

teenager, which was drinking, smoking, having a girlfriend. hey all

seemed impossible to Sam, especially the being2a2teenager one,

because he was just 11 years old, and his doctor told him that he may

have just one more year of living.

0t may sound impossible to Sam, but not to eli!, Sams best friend

would help him to make all his wishes come true. So the first thing they

did was planning on what World 4uinness 8ecord they should brake-

they wanted to create the tiniest night2club, but it came out it was

easier to get their idea copied than it seemed at the beginning.

So, they ended up with a bunch of brainstorms, Sams unofficial record

was 6shortest time to hop up a flight of stairs 9holding on to the

banister:$ forty2three seconds.

/e!t thing on his list was watching a horror movie, it was on his wishes

list because his mom wouldnt let him watch any scary movie.

So the ne!t day, eli! stole some horror movies from his older brother

&ickeys room. "e took a bunch of cool movies- Sam arrived to eli!s

house, he was going to have dinner there.

(fter having dinner, they went to &ickeys room, there were over

twenty horror movies to choose from. hey finally choose 6he

+!orcist7, they made some popcorn, and were all e!cited about

watching the movie, especially Sam, since it was his first time watching

a scary movie.

hey got bored, huge disappointment, they were laughing, when the

girl twisted her whole head, they e!pected to see monsters or demons.

When Sam said that, it gave eli! a fantastic idea. &ickey has a %uija

board, so they decided to use it, to get a little more entertained.

hey shut all the windows and made like a little shelter to stop the light

from coming in the room, before they were going to start, eli! mom

went into the room and caught both of them about to start with the

game- she took the game board away, and spoiled them the movie

ending.

hat same day later at night, Sams grandma arrived, so he asked her

if she believed in demons and that kind of stuff, her grandma told him

that not that much, but that she knew a story about a young woman

being killed inside of their house, with the chills the story gave him, he

changed subject.

When eli! got to his house, he had the board. (gain, they closed all

the windows from Sams room, they were once again about to start,

when they were interrupted by Sams younger sister, +lla- she was a

tough girl so they decided it was okay to let her in.

he three of them placed both hands on the triangular thing on top of

the %uija board, and started talking to the board, came out that there

was someone. (t first, each other thought it was one of the three of

them messing with the other two, but when Sam told them about the

story 4ranny told him about they got scared, so they put the boardaway.

;ater that week, Sam along with his family, went one more time to the

hospital to see how Sam and his chemotherapy was going. *r. Bill said

that his leukemia went back for the third time, and that there was not

much to do, that was four months ago, but it seems like it was getting

worse. "is dad got frustrated, and he began to ask a bunch of#uestions about the drug they were giving Sam, but the problem was

that the medicine wasnt working anymore, and if they decided to try it

one more time, he would need to spend a lot more time at the hospital,

which Sam didnt wanted, he was sick o spending weeks and weeks at

the hospital, he didnt want to do it anymore.

he doctor said that the medicines gave the patient a year more of

living, it has already passed four months since that, but anything could

happen in a year.

he ne!t thing that was on Sams list was going up down2escalators

and going down up2escalators.

"e was a the mall with his mom and +lla eating something at the food

court, and all he could think of was the escalators, it was actually a

stupid wish, but he wanted to do it ever since he read about a dog that

did it, not because he didnt know what the direction of the escalators

were, but because he was challenging himself.

So Sam went to the mall escalators, he was watching passively how

the escalators went up and down, while he was deliberating if he

should try going up or not.

(fter thinking and thinking, he thought it would be a good idea, so he

prepared himself, he was a little afraid of not being able to do it, but he

wanted to at least try. here he was, about to go up the down2

escalators- when he took the first step, and the second, and the third

one, he couldnt believe it, he was actually doing it
