Decorated eggs(pisanki) were used since ancient times in ancient cultures. Egg symbolizes fertility, sun, Babylonian rebirth(reincarnation) and were used to prevent fires, lightning and evil spirits.



The use of Easter Bunny is similar to Santa Clause. Bunnies are symbols of fertility connected to ‘goddess’ Eostre.

Easter Baskets used in Slavic countries like Poland, Slovakia, etc. closely resemble decoration of old Zoroastrian table called Haft Sin, during spring-time holiday- Nowruz.



In Slavic countries like Poland there are ancient pagan festivals and personas(similar to Christmas). Siuda Baba is an old, sooth-faced woman dressed in shabby clothes. In other parts of Poland you can encounter Dziady Smigustne(wandering straw-men). Kurek Dyngusowy is another tradition, where people take a rooster, give him spirit to drink and visiting from house to house.
