Coffee Basket:Information about an HLA auction should be coming home soon. Fifth grade will be putting together a coffee basket for the event. The picture to the left is a basket that my class did while I was at Alachua Elementary. Included were k-cups, ground coffee, bottled coffee, gift cards to Starbucks, filters, stirrers, coffee and traveling mugs, and artwork. Feel free to “think outside of the box,” and be creative. All donations will be greatly appreciated!

Class Auction:Now that the first grading period is completed, I’d like to reward my students by having a class auction. This is the perfect time to get rid of some of the clutter at home! If you have any toys, books, comics, sporting equipment, or anything else that a child would enjoy, I would love to add them to our auction! Please bring in materials this week so we can hold our auction soon!

The Week In Review Miscellaneous

SS: We are currently learning about the government, and will test on economics and government a week from Monday.ELA: This week, we covered character, direct and indirect objects, and the prefix, “tri-.”Math: We are finishing up Ch. 2 and will test on Wednesday. Study those time tables!!! Science: Students just took the Ch. 1 open-notes test. We will now be studying body systems in Ch. 2. A project will be coming home soon! Word of the Week: Our word of the week was “compassion.” Compassion is a very important character trait because one does not just feel the emotions of another person, they also want to help them because of those emotions. Compassionate people are kind, caring, and supportive.

Picture DayPicture Day will be Thursday, October 18th. Make sure to dress nicely since these photographs will be in the 2018-19 yearbook. Flyers with pricing will be sent home soon!

Teacher WorkdayStudents will have Friday, October 19th off from school. Sadly, however, teachers will be at work that day, participating in workshops. Enjoy the time off, and come back to school on Monday, ready to work!

Students should neatly write each of the following words with large, legible print on the index cards sent home today. In addition, they need to mark all their words before class on Monday.
