INTRODUCTION

The book club is one of the most diverse clubs of IIT Kanpur members spanning acrossvarious age-groups, gender, cast, race and ethnicity. Housing more than 7,000 books fromover 15 genres, it prides itself in helping people get hold of the book(s) of their choice.16Its goals being providing a definitive reading experience to the members of the club, be it in procuring books, indexing them for easy access and making them available for reading or inletting people review them and see reviews by others. The SAC Book Club or simply the BookClub comes under the Presidential Council of the Student’s Gymkhana. It is maintained andoperated by a team of 2 coordinators and 7 secretaries, working on a completely voluntarybasis.

• Membership of the book club is restricted to students, faculty and acadstaff of IIT Kanpur.

JOINING THE CLUB

• Membership of the club is restricted to students, faculty members and academic staff of IIT Kanpur.

• Every member has to pay a nominal fees of 30 rupees to open up a slot with thebook

• To issue a book, a member has to come to the club in New SAC along with their institute ID Card. The book will be issued for a period of 2 weeks, after which, they will be levied a fine of a rupee per day

• The member can renew the book after the allotted period of 2 weeks is over, subject to the condition that the book has not been placed on hold by another member

• By registering for a membership, the member agrees to let the club send reminders for overdue books

ISSUING A BOOK

• Books can be placed on hold. Once a book placed on hold by a member is returned, the club informs the member regarding the availability of the book

• The club reserves the right to not issue any book

• Do not issue books in bad condition• It is not advisable to issue books in bad condition

• If a member loses or damages a book beyond repair, he/she will either have to replace the book, or pay 1.2 times the cost of the book, as calculated by the team

• Students are not allowed to register for the new semester until and unless their dues are clear with the club. So it is advised to clear the dues with the club, if any, to prevent unnecessary problems during the time of registration

The book club, beside issuing books, also has the facility of searching for any book by its title, author, keyword(s) or subject.

The club also accepts requests for book(s), if unavailable with the club, thus allowing its members to gain access to the book(s) of their choice.

The book club, beside issuing books, also provides the facility of searching forany book by its title, author, keyword(s) or subject through its webpage.
