PRE SUMMIT WORKSHOPS23 February 2016, Tuesday

WORKSHOP A8.15am – 10.45am (include morning tea break)

Develop a Cost-Effective and Successful Modularization Strategy for Major Projects

Modularization results in substantial cost savings in mega oil & gas or mining projects. This workshop will cover cost effective strategies and industrial guidelines that can be used by engineers and steel fabricators for modular steel designs for major projects. Structural, piping, mechanical and electrical engineering guidelines will also be briefly discussed. The procedures and recommendations described in this workshop can be used in practice to maximize the project savings in the oil & gas or mining industry.

After attending this workshop, attendees will be able to:• Identify client needs and understand how team characteristics, building type, and site location impact modular construction

decisions • Know the significant aspects of modularization and constructability to consider when working with Engineering,

Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) capital projects • Plan major work activities and streamline the site activities • Understand the most effective procurement and contracting strategies for large scale projects

WORKSHOP B10.45am – 2.40pm (include lunch break)

Best Practices in Managing and Minimizing Costs for Modularization Projects Effective cost management in modular construction projects requires a deep understanding of engineering processes, con-struction characteristics and the sequencing of hook-up procedures. There are cost components involved in every stage of modularisation - project planning/engineering/sequencing/construction and commissioning. Failure to fully understand these processes can lead to cost overruns and project delays. This workshop will provide specific advice on how to manage and mitigate the many cost components of modular projects. It will also show you in detail how you can effectively plan your budget whilst ensuring project schedules are met for Modularization Projects.

After attending this workshop, you will be able to:• Carry out feasibility studies to minimise the risk of increased project costs due to volatility in labor resources, weather,

rates and productivity• Implement measurements of cost effectiveness and productivity as part of Front End Execution Planning (FEEP)• Weigh construction investments, predictions and financial turn overs by analysing cost-effective modules, labour costs

and time-scales• Plan and coordinate with design and construction companies to minimize costs• Identify and avoid potential risks that can escalate your project budget

Kuo Tsai Huang has rich project experience in cash flow planning, cost analysis, cost estimation and quantity takeo in residential and facto-ry buildings both in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and Thailand, some of the projects he has conducted include: Crown Nong Khae Thailand project, Crown Putian phase II, Crown Heshan, Crown Thailand, and Goodbox Putian projects. He also has extensive experiences in factory construction and with specialty in precast concrete structure. Before joining Kearns International Thailand, he was the Cost Manager & Project Manager at Ruentex Engineering and Construction, where he Estimated and analyzed preliminarily residential project cost to assist property development companies correctly evaluate project feasibility, conduct value engineering, and choose the most cost effective scenario. WORKSHOP C2.45pm – 5.30pm (include afternoon tea break)

Effective Risk Mitigation& Management for Large Multi-national Modular Projects

Large multi-national projects have a high level of complexity due to the number of project stakeholders involved, long timeline and complex interfaces. Strong and close coordination among these stakeholders is essential to successful project delivery – on time and within budget. Identifying and managing the project risks are critical. Forecasting these risks from the feasibility study stage till completion can significantly reduce risks of delays in project delivery. This workshop will equip you with the strategies to mitigate risks in your current or upcoming projects.

After attending this workshop, attendees will be able to:• Identify risks in major multi-national projects • Develop risk mitigation strategies and risk mitigation plan • Know how to prioritise the risks and focus on the important ones • Strengthen risk management during the proposal stage, during contract negotiations, and during project execution
