Our School Centenary

My dad said we could have one dollar to spend. We ended up having five dollars. The school had a tent with a model of the old bark school, souvenirs for sale, a jumping castle, merry-go-round and fairy floss.

A message from Brad

Welcome to week 8 everyone!

The wattle trees are in full bloom which means we must be in spring! Where has the year gone!

Last week I read an article from the Adjungbilly Creek News that was printed on the 14th October 1986. The article was written around the Bongongo Public School centenary celebrations. Some of you will remember the occasion which involved committee members Bill Graham, chairman, David Graham, vice chairman and treasurer, Robyn Cole and Leah Kingwill as secretaries. It sounds like the occasion was celebrated in true Bongongo fashion with no stone unturned. From photograph displays, rides, vintage cars, restored engines and a ball that was headed by Bill Kingwill. I also read that there is a video recording of the centenary celebration which was viewed in the community hall prior to the P&C meeting. I wonder if anyone has a copy of the recording? If there is someone out there who would know about the recording I would love to brush the dust off and have a look!

A message from Miss Reynolds

Last Thursday our school took part in the Child Safety Information Webinar through the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. We discussed and listened to cues our bodies may have when we are in dangerous situations. The students took home their hands with Five people that are our support networks and that we feel safe to go to to talk with. This afternoon our students will be presenting their Literacy and Robotics Assessment tasks that we have been working on in-class over the term. Each student in Year 1-5 will be showing us how they have been able to link their story with a feature in the technological arena. The Kindergarten students will work together to present their story to their peers as a group. The students enjoyed using the money in our Numeracy sessions last week. This week we will be looking at Mass. In Literacy, K/1 have been working well with different aspects of their learning. Year 1 looked at Exclamation Marks last week and when to use the punctuation. The Kindergarten students are beginning to focus on writing their sentences in our Jolly Phonics programme with more detail. Next Monday the students will be working in pairs to organise and present a sport/ active game with a healthy snack for each other. This is part of our Active/ Healthy Lifestyle programme with the PDHPE unit. Students have been given samples over the last few weeks for ideas of healthy snacks and will have to give their plans to Miss Reynolds on Friday to have for Monday morning.

Our annual school photos will be held on Tuesday 17th September 2019. A venue is yet to be advised. We will be taking photos in the morning, following the bus run. Students are to be in full school summer uniform including black shoes.

Yass. The day will begin at 9.30am and finishing

at 2.00pm.

Miss Andrews, Wee-Jasper Principal, will be in

charge on the day. Rachel Graham will be

Footy Colours Day

The ‘Footy Colours Day’ will be on the 16th September. Students are asked to donate a gold coin for those dressed in their favourite Footy team colours. We will use this day to have our Active Lifestyle Assessment Task so students will have to have a planned snack and activity to be able to set up on the day.

The snow is soft as it lays on top of the mountain. Swoosh! Snow fell over the red rock and tumbled into

the water. ‘I feel peaceful,’ said Bob. In the distance under the tree Bob saw a man with a black suit

hunting with an AK47 and a 22. He popped out …. I ran and ran. He tried to shoot me in the toe. I found

the A47 on the ground and shot…

Joe

The tree wiggles it leaves in the flood plains of the green grass. Swoosh! The dirty wind climbs up the

mountain, zoomed to the clouds and slammed to the ground.

Jack

The dust sat on the bumpy red rock as the scorching sun shone on the water’s surface. Buzzzzzzz. The

sound of the crickets alerted the water buffalo to run away. ‘Wow! That water buffalo was huge! Thank

goodness the crickets scared it, or it might have wanted to pierce me with its horns,’ sighed Ki. Stomp! A

loud noise vibrated the rock I was sitting on, which sent a chill of horror through my bones. Slowly I got up

and walked forward away from the loud noise, not daring to turn my head and look back. Walking away I

heard loud stomps behind me. I jogged. I heard jogging behind me. I ran. I heard running behind me. I

bolted as fast as a cheetah. Finally I stopped. So did the four legged animal. Within a brief second I heard a

snort. ‘Why me?’ I whispered to myself. Slowly I turned around and saw a buffalo as big as a giant.

George

The crunch of the snow slowly begins to melt away in the icy mountains. Woosh! The sweet sound of wind

swirls towards the mountains. “This really hurts my face!’ I mumbled. “Who knew these Kosciuszko blizzard

conditions are horrifying.” As I sat in the in the blizzard I saw something in the distance. It looks like it has

four long legs and a nose of a big German Shepard. Slowly I turned around and saw not one but two. After

a few moments the figures got closer and easier to see.

Juliet

Over and over again the big waves crashed loudly into the rocks. Crash! The waves smashed against the

big wall. “Those waves are ginormous!” He roared as he heard a big splash in the water. He turned and

saw a big blue dolphin jumping in and out of the water. It kept leaping in circles right in front of his face.

Carefully he went down the steep mountain to try and get a closer look of the beautiful dolphin.

The road is dirty and smooth. The fence was sharp .
