Salinas de Maras (Salt terraces)

• Artificial salt terraces from the Inkas which are still used by the inhabitants. The salt is sold in

other countries as a delicate for a lot of money

• Entrance s/10

• To go there: By bus to Urubamba (s/1,5) and then take a taxi from Urubamba (s/60 for both

ways)

Pisaq

• Entrance with the boleto (normally s/40)

• Ruines of an Inka center of ceremonials (temple), surrounded by terraces to cultivate plants and

one of the biggest Inka graveyard

• 2 possibilities

o Walk the whole way (quite steep)

o Go up by taxi (s/25) and walk around the ruins including the way down to the plaza de

armas (3-4 hrs)

Moray

• Huge Inka terraces , round, might have been used for experiments for agriculture

• Entrance with the boleto (otherwise s/10)

• Bus to Urubamba (s/ 1,5) then taxi (s/60 for 2 ways), makes sense to include Maras (which lies on

the way) and Chinchero

Ollantaymbo

• Huge fortress central in the city, one of the last places of the Inkas

• Entrance with the boleto (otherwise s/40)

• By bus to Urubamba (s/1,5) and then to Ollantaytambo (s/1,5)

Tambomachay

• Holy source of water

• Baño del Inka

• Entrance with the boleto (otherwise s/20)

• By bus to Cusco (s/5): tell the driver to stop at Tambomachay

Puka Pukara

• ‘’The red fortress’’

• Station where chasquis changed on their relays

• Entrance free (part of the boleto)

• After visiting Tambomachay cross the street and you can already see the ruins

Kenko

• Shrine of Pachamama

• ‘’Labyrinth’’

• In the centre is a huge rock which was used for sacrifices

• Entrance with the boleto (otherwise s/20)

• After visiting Tambomachay and Puka Pukara

Pikillakta

• rests of a huge city of the Huari culture (pre-Inka)

• surrounded by a huge wall

• From Cusco: Bus to Urco (s/2) which goes along the Avd. Cultura and Larapa

Tipón

• Inka terraces and irrigation channels

o After visiting Pikillakta: Stop a bus at the street (s/1)
