Elle Macpherson “The Body”“It’s not vanity to feel you have a right to be beautiful. Women are taught to feel we’re not good enough, that we must live up to some-one else’s standards. But my aim is to cherish myself as I am” - Elle Macpherson

“I love food and hate exercise. I don’t have time to work out... I don’t want to be on the cover of Playboy or Vogue. I want to be on the cover of Rolling Stone or Q. I’m not a trend-setter... I’m a singer... I’d rather weight a ton and make an amazing album then look like Nicole Richie and do a shit album. My aim in life is never to be skinny.” - Adele

Body Image is something that’s focussed on a lot in the media, magazines are constantly comment-ing on celebrities weight and showing us pictures of beautiful and skinny women and muscular men which makes us compare ourselves to them and aim to look a certain way. Body Image has changed a lot over the years from American model Marilyn Monroe who became a world icon in the 1950s. Marilyn started modeling when she was a healthy size 14 and many people idolised this and wanted to look just like her. However this started to change over the years when models such as Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell came onto the scene who were very slim and beautiful, they were constatly photographed in the media and Kate Moss even reportadly stated that “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” The trend suddendly changed from people wanting to be a healthy size to wanting to be stick thin. This has continued over the years with magazines always talking about celebrties weight and the latest crazy diets. However certain celebrities believe it’s unhealthy to print pictures of skinny and photoshopped models as it’s making people believe they have to look a paticular way. Currently more curvy women are been shown in the media and campaigns such as Dove have been launched showing that healthy is the new skinny.
