Our Guest speakers for May will include our new 5th precinct DPD Captain Michael DiCicco, along with Terry Martin from Building and Safety, and Kathy Roddie covering our next clean up effort with our friends at Blue Cross Blue Shield and details about our annual Garage Sale in June. There will also be an update on what’s up with East Warren.

Thanks to all that helped with our clean-up in April; we had a very good turnout of U of M students and the usual group of dedicated residents. Special thanks to DPD for additional patrols, and BIG thanks to our Residential Chair Kathy Roddie for leading the event again this year. We look forward to next year and for an even bigger crowd - plan to join us in April of 2020 and we'll be sure to get the information out as soon as possible!

Our work continues with Commander Ewing, Captain DiCicco, Sgt Pawl and their team on current local quality of life issues and we will review our progress. Your street rep and/or block captain is a good resource for more information on your partner-ship to build our status as a Community of Choice.

Please remember cars, trucks and trailers are not to be parked on any lawn area per City code, including your

backyard area and pets must be taken care of for their benefit and your neighbors. Please note: garbage cans of all types are to be placed behind the line of the back of the house per City of Detroit code–not the driveway or under your neighbor’s windows on the driveway side... Let’s clean up the issue and please refer to your trash collection calendar for proper pick up dates!

As the weather improves and we are outdoors more, take a moment to greet and welcome all of our new residents to the Village!

Please have a happy and safe Memorial weekend!

Gather with your Village neighbors and continue our spring beautification effort! Everyone is encouraged to wel-come our cadre of volunteers from Blue Cross and tackle the activities that will help clean up the dregs of winter debris and clutter around the Village.Get your your coffee to go and meet at 4240 Kensington around 10 am for assignments. We plan to focus on cleaning up various village sites, notably the empty lots that need removal of debris, weeding and possibly mowing. A box lunch will be provided for

the entire team, and should fuel you through the 4 p.m. finish. We need village volunteers to lead assignments and participate as much as possible that day - even for a spare an hour or two. Join your neighbors in this group spring cleaning effort! Sign up with Residential Chair-person Kathy Roddie at [email protected] or [email protected]

A true sign of spring is the wonderful work done by our neighborhood voluunteers and UM stu-dents. To all who participated in the cleanup on April 13 we would like to thank you very much for your support, and most of all to meet the volunteers and let them know we appreci-ate so much for them coming to help us clean our neighborhood again. Thanks to all. Last but not least the ones that contribute water or the ones that could only stay for a short period of time - thank you too!Residential ChairKathy Roddie Great thanks to Residential Chairperson

Saturday Walking ClubAn Article posted on Reuters.com said researchers found that, on average, the participants who joined walking groups experi-enced meaningful improvements in lung power, overall physical functioning and general fitness, in addition to the changes in blood pressure, body mass index and other important risk factor measures.

The participants also tended to be less depressed after joining the walking groups - do yourself a favor and join us!

Our Walking Club is starting back up on Saturdays.

Once it stops raining, join us at 4240 Kensington at 9:00 to 10:30 as we walk the village. We post on the East English Village Facebook page with details and reminders. All are

welcome!
