RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD

• Leadership: Formation of broad policy for the organization

• Management: Day to Day operations, assure that functioning within the policies established by the governance

• Bylaws/policies and procedures• 501c3 (IRS non profit status)• State statutes or Organization

(Incorporation)• Rules of Operation • Upper Room Covenant

Emmaus/Chrysalis • Yearly signed by all board members

ORGANIZATION OF THE BOARD

• Elected by the Community for3 year terms

• 15 members in 3 classes of 5 + CSD

• Officers elected yearly by the board• CSD, CLD, Secretary & Treasurer

• Clergy as board members• All members serve as a committee

chairperson (management)

• Facility, Set-up & Agape - community and global

• Literature & Supplies• Music & Entertainment• Team Selection• Chrysalis• Tear down

• Registrar• Sponsor’s Hour• Candlelight• Transportation• Logistics• Kitchen

ADDITIONAL BOARD FUNCTIONS

• Annual Board Training / Retreat• Weekend Orientation Meeting • Annual Community Trainings

• Sponsorship Training (monthly or quarterly)

• Nominating Committee (ad hoc/special)

• Review Bylaws (ad hoc) every 5 years

• Participate in UR Regional Leadership Development

• Attend board meetings - expectation

COVENANT• Covenant between Upper Room

Emmaus /Chrysalis and local Emmaus/Chrysalis communities.

• A Covenant is:• God’s promises to people in the

Old and New Testaments• A binding agreement made by two or

more parties (marriage); a contract.• A solemn agreement or vow made by

members of a church (or faith community) to defend its faith or doctrine.

• Covenantee URE/C; Covenantor The local community

• Permission to operate• Governing body elected by community (Item #1)

• Observe Three Phase method of Emmaus/Chrysalis (Item #2)

Interpretation vested only in UR staff“Conducting walks using locally written and/or paraphrased or written materials from other organizations is prohibited”• Separate three-day events for male and female in Chrysalis and Emmaus (Item #2b)

• Interdenominational, Interracial, International, Intergenerational (Item #3)

COVENANT

• Translation or printing of materials requires written approval (Item #4)

• Regular communication with UR, churches, and denominational leaders (Item #5)

• Yearly financial review (Item #6)• Maintain proper sponsorship (Item #7)

Sponsoring pilgrims/caterpillars who are actively participating in a local church
