The Supportive Housing Coalition of New Mexico (SHC) is a statewide nonprofit housing organization incorporated in 1996. Based in Albuquerque, SHC is the leader in affordable, supportive housing for people with behavioral health issues experiencing homelessness in New Mexico. The Board of Directors of the Supportive Housing Coalition of New Mexico serve as leaders and advocates for agency programs and plan for the organization's long and short term future. As a volunteer for the organization, you are part of the team dedicated to ending homelessness for individuals and families in New Mexico. Plan for the agency’s future on a long and short-term basis, including involvement in the strategic planning process Attend at least 75% of monthly board meetings, including assigned committees Serve on a minimum of one Board committee Participate in all fundraising activities which may include personal individual solicitation, special events, mail appeals, and other activities Work in good faith with staff and other board members as partners towards achievement of agency goals Set policy Act as fiduciary Provide personal financial contribution to SHC-NM Abide by the SHC-NM Board of Directors Code of Conduct SHC manages over 400 tenant based housing vouchers, working with 150 partner landlords, in the private rental market in Albuquerque We prevent homelessness by providing emergency move-in assistance and eviction prevention grants for over 100 people each year We created and manage 10 permanent supportive housing units just for families in Gallup, NM We house 350 individuals and families who pay below- market rates at SHC mixed income complexes Key Accomplishments The organization pioneered the evidence-based Housing First model of ending homelessness in New Mexico, creating permanent supportive housing developments and managing hundreds of housing vouchers in scattered sites throughout Albuquerque. SHC provides service coordination to our tenants, helping them access supportive services such as financial literacy, job training, educational opportunities, and public benefits.
