Being a Council member is hard work, but it is also a very good way of making a positive contribution to the profession. Council members - particularly through their work on committees - pass the policies which direct the future development of the profession. Policy matters actively being debated within Council at present include: the relationship between the physiotherapy and occupational therapy professions; the role of helpers; recruitment to the profession and professional education; the role of the Society in the implementation of the European Community directives as they affect the freedom of movement of physiotherapists; and other industrial relations and professional practice matters.

Council members are elected for a term of four years from the fol lowing constituencies:

Section A - Teachers Section B - Private practitioners Section C - NHS employees Section D - Those not eligible for the

other sections.

If you are interested in standing, please send off for the nomination papers and notes. Remember, all members are eligible to stand.
