“Read ing fo r I n teg r i t y ” P ro jec t i s a new endeavour

launched by the Community Relations Department of the

Independent Commission Against Corruption to promote

moral education. Always looking for new approaches,

we join hands with teachers and parents to instill positive

va lues in the younger generat ion star t ing f rom ear ly

childhood through picture books and a series of training

and publicity activities.

With vivid i l lustrations featuring iconic scenes of Hong

Kong, a set of four p icture books on d i f ferent mora l

themes are developed in simple yet vigorous language.

Through stor ies depict ing the i r fami l iar exper iences,

ch i ld ren are insp i red to embrace the core va lues o f

integrity, honesty, self-discipl ine and responsibi l i ty. By

reading the picture books together with their chi ldren,

parents can help them develop a reading habit and forge a

closer bond with them.

Boar Bakery is located in a small village.

Each and every bun is baked by Father Boar himself.

Page 6: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

Every morning, villagers start the day with

wonderful aroma from the freshly baked buns

made from very fresh ingredients.

Page 7: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

Not a single day goes without rows and rows

of assorted buns, fresh from the oven.

Page 8: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

This Spring, Father Boar falls seriously ill

and cannot continue with his work.

“Don’t worry, dad”, Little Boar says.

“Let me take care of the bakery!”

Page 9: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

“Dad will get well soon if I run

the bakery well!

Now I realise that making bread

isn’t that simple at all.

What should I do?”

However ...

Page 10: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

“Don’t fret. Just buy an automatic bread maker.

Press a button, and out come the buns!

No one will find out. It saves time and energy,

and only costs 50 gold coins.”

Monkey the Salesman

arrives right on time.

Page 11: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

And just like that, the newly bought machine

begins its work inside the bakery

Clank! Clank! Clank!

Page 12: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

However, after spending a fortune on the bread maker,

there is no money left for the ingredients!

“What should I do?

I have yet to buy milk, eggs, flour …!”

Page 13: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

Again, Monkey the Salesman says,

“Don’t sweat it! If you can’t afford eggs,

you can buy yellow food colouring instead!

Just add a small drop to the dough,

and it looks like eggs are mixed in.

No one will find out.

Food colouring is a lot cheaper than eggs!”

Page 14: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

“You don’t have to buy fresh milk. Expired milk is still milk!

You don’t need to buy so much flour either.

Extra baking powder can do the trick to the size of the buns.

No one will find out! How wonderful!”

Page 15: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

It really saves money and energy to run the bakery in this way.

The buns are much bigger too.

Everyone is waiting in line to buy them.

Father Boar has just been discharged from hospital.

He is also in the queue. He wants to give Little Boar

a nice surprise.

Page 16: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

Eager to taste the bread made

by his son, Father Boar grabs

a pineapple bun and happily

takes a bite.

“It doesn’t … taste right!”

Page 17: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

Father Boar rushes into the workshop.

Bottles of yellow food colouring, cans of baking powder and

buckets of mouldy flour are scattered across the floor …

He is shocked.

Page 18: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

Little Boar hears a thud and rushes over.

He tries to explain but suddenly sees his

father clutching his stomach ...

His vision suddenly turns blurry, Father Boar

cannot help but fall on the ground.

Page 19: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

“Nee-naw nee-naw …”

An ambulance arrives.

Father Boar is not the only one suffering

from a stomach ache. Other villagers fall

ill because of the buns too!

Page 20: Boar Bakery' Picture Book

“I’m sorry … What, what have I done?”

“I thought,

if dad saw how good the business was,

he would be happy and get well soon!”
