outside of class as you do in class studying the course content. Additional time will be required for
written assignments. The assignments provided will help you use your study hours wisely. Successful
completion of this course requires a combination of the following:
• Be PROACTIVE – start weekly assignments on Monday, don’t wait for the weekend
• Reading the digital textbook
• Attending class in person and/or online
• Completing assignments by the deadlines
• Participation in class or online discussions
Version 2.1.FY2020

There is no short cut for success in this course; it requires reading (and probably re-reading) and
studying the material using the course objectives as a guide.
Instructor and Student Responsibilities As your Instructor, it is my responsibility to:
• Provide the grading scale and detailed grading formula explaining how student grades are to be
derived
• Facilitate an effective learning environment through learner-centered instructional techniques
• Provide a description of any special projects or assignments
• Inform students of policies such as attendance, withdrawal, tardiness, and making up
assignments
• Provide the course outline and class calendar that will include a description of any special
projects or assignments
• Arrange to meet with individual students before or after class as required or requested.
As a student, it is your responsibility to:
• Attend class in person and complete weekly assignments online before class.
• Attendance online will be tracked by assignments completed by the due date.
• Participate actively by reviewing course material, interacting with classmates as required, and
responding promptly to communication from the instructor.
• Read and answer Q&A from the digital textbook.
• Complete the required assignments and quizzes on time.
• Ask for help when there is a question or problem – before a deadline passes.
• Keep copies of all paperwork, including this syllabus, handouts, and all assignments.
• Maintain a passing score on assignments, midterms and final reports/exams.
• Be aware of and comply with academic honesty policies in the HCCS Student Handbook
Assignments, Quizzes, and Exercises
Late submissions will NOT be accepted. Assignments will not be reopened if missed. Extra
credit will not be offered for missed assignments.
Chapter Reading with Q&A Chapter readings with graded Q & A will help students fully understand the concepts introduced and
how those concepts are applied in various companies. Students have unlimited attempts within the
week assigned, however, the reading and Q&A need to be done by midweek, before moving on to the
chapter exercises. This assignment is worth 15% of the final grade.
Chapter Exercises & Self-Assessments Chapter exercises consisting of: case analyses, articles, videos with Q&As, click & drag, matching, and
self-assessments help students understand, apply, and reinforce the concepts learned. The self-
assessments are a fun way to learn more about yourself on a personal basis and provides feedback to
know what to focus and improve on your growth as a supervisor. Remember self-assessments are
flexible and your responses will change over time. Students have two attempts with unlimited time
within the week assigned, however, these must be completed before the weekend. These assignments
are worth 15% of the final grade.
Module Quizzes The module quizzes will open Fridays at 12:00AM and consist of multiple choice and true or false
questions. There are of 25 questions from the chapter readings assigned for the week. Students have
Version 2.1.FY2020

two attempts and two hours to complete the quiz. Do not open the quiz to review it and close it again
because that will count as one attempt. The Module quizzes are worth 20% of the grade.
Discussions & Written Assignments Students will respond to scenarios and/or questions based on what was covered in the readings.
Answers to both the discussions and written assignments must be detailed, grammatically correct,
proper use of paragraphs, and relate to the question. Instructions are included with the questions. For
the written assignments, use the textbook as one resource but you may use additional resources. The
written assignment is worth 15% of the final grade.
Responses to discussion questions must be detailed and relate to the question asked. After submitting
their response, students must respond to at least one classmate’s post (20 points), see instructions for
details. Discussions will be worth 15% of the final grade.
Final Report Now that you know about supervision, you will approach the final report as if you were providing
training to aspiring supervisors. Their training will addresses the five Course Student Learning
Outcomes (CSLO) listed in this syllabus and the LO (Learning Objective) listed under each CSLO.
The report must be detailed, more than five pages in length, typed SINGLE-SPACED, 1-inch margins,
Times New Roman, 12-font. It must have a Cover Sheet and a Table of Content. Sources must be
listed at the end of the report, one of the sources must include the textbook chapter and pages where
you are referencing your answer.
Please plan on taking notes from your weekly reading to assist you in writing the report. Your written
assignments can be used in your report. You will conclude the report with: 1) What you did not know
before or, 2) what you knew before but understand differently now, 3) agree or disagree with
something you read, and 4) what you can now apply and relate to the workplace. Also, please provide
your feedback on the course. Pay special attention to spelling, grammar, sentence, and paragraph
structure. Include business terminology from what you read in your report. The Final Report will be
worth 20% of the final grade.

HCC Grading Scale:
A = 100- 90 4 points per semester hour
B = 89 - 80: 3 points per semester hour
C = 79 - 70: 2 points per semester hour
D = 69 - 60: 1 point per semester hour
59 and below = F 0 points per semester hour
FX (Failure due to non-attendance) 0 points per semester hour
Version 2.1.FY2020
7
IP (In Progress) 0 points per semester hour
W (Withdrawn) 0 points per semester hour
I (Incomplete) 0 points per semester hour
AUD (Audit) 0 points per semester hour
IP (In Progress) is given only in certain developmental
courses. The student must re-enroll to receive credit. COM
(Completed) is given in non-credit and continuing education courses. FINAL
GRADE OF FX: Students who stop attending class and do not withdraw
themselves prior to the withdrawal deadline may either be dropped by their
professor for excessive absences or be assigned the final grade of "FX" at the
end of the semester. Students who stop attending classes will receive a grade
of "FX", compared to an earned grade of "F" which is due to poor performance.
Logging into a DE course without active participation is seen as non-attending.
Please note that HCC will not disperse financial aid funding for students who
have never attended class.
Students who receive financial aid but fail to attend class will be reported to
the Department of Education and may have to pay back their aid. A grade of
"FX" is treated exactly the same as a grade of "F" in terms of GPA, probation,
suspension, and satisfactory academic progress.
To compute grade point average (GPA), divide the total grade points by the
total number of semester hours attempted. The grades "IP," "COM" and "I" do
not affect GPA.
Incompletes: The grade of “I” (incomplete is conditional. A student receiving
an “I” must arrange with the instructor to complete the course work within six
months of the end of the incomplete term. After the deadline, the “I” becomes
an “F”. Upon completion of the coursework, the grade will be entered as
I/grade on the student transcript. All “I” s must be changed to grades prior to
graduation.
Incomplete Policy: To receive a grade of Incomplete (“I”), a student must have completed at least 85% of the work in the
course and has some extenuating circumstances – dated documentation will be required. In all cases,
the instructor reserves the right to decline a student’s request to receive a grade of Incomplete.

Instructor’s Practices and Procedures
Missed Assignments Please be PROACTIVE and plan ahead. DO NOT wait until the weekend the assignments are due to
start working on them, remember you have two chapters to complete each week in this accelerated
8-week course!
Please note that I DO NOT accept late assignments, give extra-credit assignments, reopen missed
assignments or offer make-up assignments. Exceptions are on a case-by-case basis requiring
documentation of the emergency. An exception will not be made because of a computer malfunction, if
students complete assignments early, they have time to handle any issue that arises to ensure they
meet the deadline.
Although I do not accept late assignments, students have a week to complete the chapter reading with
Q&A, two attempts for the chapter exercises, discussion questions, and written assignments; and three
days, two hours, and two attempts for the quizzes.
Academic Integrity Scholastic Dishonesty (cheating, plagiarism, collusion, having someone else do your assignments, etc.)
will result in a referral to the Dean of Student Services as well as a possible grade of “F’ for the course.
See the link below for details.
Here’s the link to the HCC information about academic integrity (Scholastic Dishonesty and Violation of
Academic Scholastic Dishonesty and Grievance):

Attendance Procedures Please scroll back to page 1 for my policy on attendance and course withdrawals. Attendance in this
online course is tracked by completed assignments.
Student Conduct All students are expected to present themselves in a professional, respectful manner. Behavior
inappropriate to the collegiate setting in-person or online (including but not limited to abusive,
derogatory, threatening, or harassing language directed at the instructor or towards other students,
staff or administrators) will not be tolerated, and may result in removal from the course and a report
submitted to the student’s file and/or to the Dean.
Instructor’s Course-Specific Information I monitor your progress on a weekly basis and provide feedback (via email) to help ensure you are
successful in reading and understanding the concepts available each week. It is very important that
you take a proactive (planning ahead and working a little each day) approach to be successful in the
class. Know what is expected each week and work to incorporate these requirements into your
schedule. Please do not wait until the last minute to work on assignments because something
unplanned will come up and you may miss the assignment deadlines. Assignment scores will
automatically populate in the gradebook.
Electronic Devices Electronic devises may be used in a face-to-face class to participate in discussions and exercises. Any
non-course related online activity can wait until class adjourns.
