MOUNT DRUITT WORKS SET TO START: BMDH Project is on the way back to

Mount Druitt with work starting shortly on the new community dialysis centre

and other expansion.

Our first job is to relocate the existing child care centre play equipment to a new,

improved play area so we can begin the community dialysis centre.

There’s no way we’d start before we’d consulted the “locals” so this week David

from our project team met with centre staff, parents and kids to talk about the

plans, and the need to relocate their play equipment. Parents were keen for the

kids to stay involved, so we’ve got some ideas up our hi-vis sleeves to share soon.

The new renal centre will provide much-needed local dialysis faciltiies for the

community and treatment closer to home for local patients.

GUEST RELATIONS: Lovely to welcome visitors from Hong

Kong University this week.

The group is one of an increasing number of overseas

visitors keen to see how our clinical services building design

is improving the experience of hospital.

STRIKE UP THE BAND: Thanks to Northmead Public School for playing in the Gathering Place this week. It

was great to hear Hospital Street full of music. Contact vollie coordinator Janice if you know of a group or

school who would like to donate their time to perform for us.

WORLD THROMBOSIS DAY

BIG COMMITMENT: Being a volunteer is a big

commitment for people and we really appreicate all the

work our vollies do, but this week they really went above

and beyond.

Above, while our new recruits were completing their

training, one of our dedicated vollies (below, who shall

remain nameless) willingingly jumped into the Blood Clot

costume to promote World Thrombosis Day. What a gem.

WELL TRAINED

STOP THE CLOTS: Thanks to Sonia and the team for

organising a great event to promote World Thrombosis Day.

From left, Mat and Bec from Medtronic with VTE champion

Sonia at the awareness display this week.

One in four people worldwIde die of thrombosis-related

causes. If you want more info about preventing blood clots,

go to worldthrombosisday.org

FIRST PALL CARE VOLLIES

HEALING HANDS: This week we also welcomed our first

palliative care volunteers. Twenty people joined staff for

training this week as part of a new area-wide palliative care

volunteer program. The volunteers will start at Mount

Druitt’s pallitive care unit before moving out to other wards

and then into the community. Welcome to our first intake,

who were learning how to give a relaxing hand massage as

part of their training.

with cancer by supporting CanTeen’s National Bandanna Day on 28 October!

PwC GETS THE PAPER-LITE BUG IT’S EASY BEING GREEN: Our project

managers PwC have caught the Paper-Lite bug

from hanging around us for too long.

It was out with the paper-based files and in

with the digital systems in the project office

this week.

All we need to do now is get them some green

t-shirts!

Changes to eMEDs

eMEDs Weekly Update

The eMEDs Project Steering Committee held an extraordinary meeting on Thursday 6th

October to discuss the eMEDs go-live at Blacktown Hospital.

Due to delays in the technical implementation the current planned go-live date of the

22nd November 2016 is not achievable and with the proximity to the Christmas/New

Year period it is not possible to extend the schedule to accommodate a new go-live

date in 2016. The eMEDs Project Steering Committee has therefore made a decision to

defer the planned eMEDs go-live at Blacktown Hospital to early 2017.

A detailed replanning exercise will now be undertaken and will provide an opportunity

to explore the possibility of including both IV Fluids and Outpatients into a single eMEDs

go-live at Blacktown Hospital.

The replanning exercise is expected to take 6-8 weeks and a new go-live date will be

communicated in early December.

There is an immediate impact to the end user training currently in progress; end user

training will cease immediately and be rescheduled for early next year.

Blacktown Hospital Site Alert

B2Hub construction | Issued 23 September 2016

Noisy works on level 2 for B2Hub

The former Pathology area on level 2 is

being refurbished for the B2Hub - a new

activity-based workspace for the

hospital administration units.

Demolition is underway and will be

followed by refurbishment work until

late 2016.

We appreciate your patience while we

deliver these new facilities for

Blacktown Hospital, and sorry about the

noise.

If you have any issues or concerns,

please contact the Project Office

on 1800 155 102.

NEW WAYS OF WORKING

Blacktown Hospital will be one of

the first hospitals in Australia

with activity-based workspaces.

Every NWOW workplace is

different because the design

reflects what people do and how

they do it, but generally there are

some common elements:

Quiet zones for concentrated

work

Private spaces for

confidential work or

discussion

Collaborative spaces for

shared work

Spaces for informal

interaction and breaks.

The new B2Hub will be a

purpose-built ‘home base’ for the

hospital admin team who are

currently housed in temporary

locations all over Blacktown and

other sites.

The B2Hub will also provide a

real-life model for activity-based

workspaces in the acute services

building.

It will allow clinical staff to

experience the new designs first-

hand and help them transition

smoothly to NWOW workspaces

when the new building is

completed in 2019.
