What are Reels & why should youmake them?

A reel is simply a 15 or 30 second video, usually comprising of acouple of different clips and with music and text - It's in essence the

    Instagram version of Tik Tok.

But why should you make them?

We are still in the process of working out exactly the impact thatReels will have on your overall Instagram success but the early signs

    are very promising:

    1) Instagram want to grow this part of their platform so areprioritising Reels. This means you content will get seen much easier

    than your grid posts.

    2) The knock on effect ripples out across the rest of your account. Myearly testing shows that the response of your overall content

improves simply but adding Reels to your repertoire.

    3) They are easy and fun for your followers to digest and offer aunique and different way to get to know you.

  • Step One

Open your Instagram profile and click on the plus sign at the top (youmight find that your plus sign is in a different place!)

  • Step Three

I recommend that you record your reel in little sections (use thetimer for this - reminder that it's the bottom icon, the stopwatch).

Set the timer for however long you want your first clip to be andpress the reel button in the middle to record it. When you're doneyou can click on the image on the left of the 'recording' button to

check you are happy. You can then either press 'done' if you're happy or click the scissors icon to trim or the dustbin delete it.

Then you go again for your next clip(s) until you fill your 15/30 secs.

  • Step Four

When you're done with recording you can add captions and stickers. Click onthe Aa in the top right corner. You have choice of font/style just as in stories. As with stories you will find that you can arrange your captions by draggingthem across the screen and making them bigger/smaller using the slider on

the left side of the screen.

You can also change the time of when each caption appears by clicking on thecaption hovering over the timeline at the bottom (highlighting it in white) and

dragging the start/end of the clip to show how long you'd like that text toshow for. This is the trickiest part of creating the reel but you'll find this gets

easier each time you try it.
