“Beauty” is the first word that comes to mind to describe the club’s car tour to French Lick, IN, on April 21-22. The beauty of nature, the beauty of architecture and the beauty of classic cars as pieces of art.

concours car shows and many are one of a kind. One example of a unique car is his 1934 Bugatti Type 57 Franany rumble seat convertible that took “The Best of Show” award at Lexington’s 2016 Keeneland Concours d’Elegance. Clem, whose family owns Best Home Furnishings in the Southern Indiana area, takes great pride in restoring the cars himself and enjoys telling visitors the history of each vehicle. He is a veteran of several Great Races. Among the many makes in the collection are Duesenberg, Hudson, Allard, Essex, Knox, Simplex, Rolls Royce, Terraplane, Bugatti, Ford and Buick.

The garage is lined with shelves showcasing awards, little cars, model cars and car-related memorabilia. Suspended from the ceiling is a small collection of pedal cars.

Clem and Mary’s son Joey has been collecting cars for about 15 years, mostly dating from the late 1960s to early 1970s with a few more modern cars sprinkled in. His 50+ cars all have one thing in common – muscle. His first buy was a 1968 Plymouth GTX Hemi. He has a pink 1970 Challenger displayed with a stuffed Pink Panther. He owns drag racers. His collection includes GTOs, Firebirds, Camaros, Ramblers/AMC. The first car you see when walking into his garage is a 1969 goldenrod yellow Pontiac GTO “The Judge.”

Like his father, Joey also has several rare and one of a kind cars. For example, he has one of only three 2009 Dodge Challengers with the Hoosier Scat Pack Performance option. His is sublime. By the way, his father and brother-in-law own the other two. Both collections are housed in enormous garages with climate- and humidity-controlled environments. They have dust collection systems that keep the cars, floors and memorabilia immaculate. The cars rarely have to be washed or even dusted. (Editor’s note: Do you think we can find something like this for our homes?)

After touring what can only be called “museums,” we left the Huntingburg area for Jasper where we had a big German lunch at The Schnitzelbank Restaurant. By the way – a bit of trivia – the movie “A League of Their Own,” which celebrates its 25th anniversary this summer, was partially filmed in Huntingburg in a stadium built by Columbia Pictures.

Thanks to the two couples who led the two-part tour – Jack Garabedian and Janet Hoover and Ray and Mary Anne Szeluga. A special recognition goes out to Roger Hatton, an AACA Bluegrass Region member who came from Florida for the tour, and his son Rob, who joined us as well.

We would like to graciously thank Dominos Pizza, S&S

Tire Beaumont Center and Peddler’s Mall in

Georgetown for donating the door prizes!

President’s Column By Jack Garabedian

The April 21st and 22nd tour turned out to be very interesting and educational, I enjoyed it very much! The quarterly board meeting was held on April 5th at the Joseph Beth – Café Meeting Room. It was agreed and voted on that starting May 1st, 2017, all new paid membership member(s) will receive club membership Name Tags. This is something new that will help to promote our club and encourage new members to join the AACA Bluegrass Car Club. Other areas that were discussed are as follows:

1) “Hump day get a way” Wednesday evenings, once or twice a month during summer and fall we are calling this “A NIGHT ON THE TOWN.” To quote George Gershwin, these evening outings are geared to going back when “Summertime, and the livin' is easy. Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high.” Sorry to have digressed. They will have an “old fashioned” flair to them! Example, going as a group to the movies at the Kentucky Theater or to a Lexington Legends baseball game and or a simple dinner at one of Lexington’s older restaurants. No touring routes or collector cars for these outings just show up and simply enjoy.

2) “Dress-up and Drive Tour” Dressing to the style of your vehicle’s year, example, 1930s car dress like they did in the “roaring 20s,” a 1950s car dress “bebop” or “Grease the movie.” 1960s car dress like “hippies” etc…

3) “Bring-a-Friend” Bring someone you know who may be interested in going to one of our events.

Some of these are in the works so look for dates and times in future newsletters.

Also, we have been invited to display our collector cars at Centenary Church for food and fun. See back page for more info if you are interested in attending/participating.

The Country Store Restaurant in

Bradfordsville, KY. By Bob and Debbie Gresham

Would you like to join the Antique Automobile Club for a tour to Bradfordsville, KY? You may be thinking to yourself, “Why go to Bradfordsville?” This unique little town has a great country restaurant and a museum. The whole town is planning a festival around our visit. Bradfordsville is an interesting place. It is the place where John Dillinger, the Depression-era outlaw, held out while evading the police. Visiting Bradfordsville is just like visiting Mayberry RFD. The streets are narrow and there is only one police car. The only restaurant in town has delicious homemade pies. You can choose what kind of pie you would like from these flavors: lemon, butterscotch, chocolate, coconut or custard. We want you to be a part of this tour! If you join us, we promise to not drive too fast. Our speed will not exceed 45 mph. All you need to do is meet us at McDonald’s at 3765 Palomar Centre Drive on Saturday, May 20th. The tour will leave at 9:30. If you would like to make sure you get a slice of one the restaurant’s delicious pies, call Debbie at 859-583-1477 by May 15th so we can make sure the restaurant has made up enough pies for all of us. Also, everyone in the Model A club is also welcomed. If you have any questions about the tour, call Bob Gresham at 859-239-8400.
