Sustainable transport isany form of transport that

is fuel efficient, has healthbenefits and reduces the

impact on the environment. Some examples of sustainable

transport are walking, cycling, usingpublic transport, bike share / hire, car-

sharing, car-pooling, hybrid or electric cars, or a combination of cycling andpublic transport to get to school or work. Using shared transport such ascommunity transport to get to medical appointments or shopping. Using

skateboards, skates and scooters to get around is also sustainable transport.

Why is sustainable transport good for me and the local

community?

Sustainable transport can provide us with new ways to get around, keep usconnected socially, we get to know our local community and keep us fit. It alsohelp us to share resources, use less petrol, be smart about car use, save moneyand have less environmental impact.

Why do we need this guide?

This guide seeks to inform the community about current transport options available in the Blue Mountains. Where do I get information aboutcommunity transport? What bike or walking groups can I join? How can I access medical transport? What groups can I join to get active? How can I have a say on transport issues?

The first edition of the guide in 2011 had a print run of 2,000 copies andfeedback received was that it fulfilled a gap in providing the community withlocalised information.

Where can I get a copy of this guide?

Electronic copies (PDF) of this guide is available from the Mid MountainsNeighbourhood Centre website www.mmnc.org.au and the Blue MountainsCity Council website www.bmcc.nsw.gov.au

Copies of the booklet Contact Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre for hard copies. Ph 4759 2592 or Email [email protected]

Available from organisations across the Blue Mountains including: Blue Mountains City Council, libraries, bike shops, neighbourhood centres, youth services, dental and medical centres.

Getting Around in Community Project (GAIC)

The second edition of the guide has been developed as part of the GettingAround in Community Project (GAIC), sustainable transport project to provideupdated information to Blue Mountains residents about current transportoptions and activities.

The GAIC project was a 3 year community development project between 2011and 2014, auspiced by The Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre. GAICpartnered with community organisations, groups and individuals to pilotsustainable transport activities and workshops. The Blue Mountains TransportGuide second edition is a way of informing the local community abouttransport options and information.
