Message From the President Members all, It is hard to believe we are heading into August already. For those who like the heat we are having a great year weather-wise, for those that do not, its been a great year for air conditioning! First I want to thank everyone who called, sent cards, well wishes or visited while I was recovering from a very unexpected surgery. From Denise and myself you all have helped us through what could have been a serious recovery but our Clubs event at Carlisle was the best medicine any one could have prescribed! I must comment on the GM Nationals at Carlisle for a moment as there is a full report elsewhere in the newsletter. I along with Ken and Jeff Antonucci were selected as Celebrity Judges for the event and it was indeed an honor to do so. Thanks to everyone who came to the event either to show a vehicle or to show support for our great club! I am very proud to lead this organization and I know we had one of the best showings ever. Oldsmobile owners from as far away as Australia and all over the USA stopped to say hello or ask questions on many topics and we all were glad to chat and give some insight. My Celebrity Judges Award was given to Ron & Jean Mummert with their 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. It was my first pick and not because they are club members. I met Ron, Jean and their son for the first time at Carlisle and feel as if I’ve known them forever. Thank you for all your years of support of this club. You truly deserve this award. You earned it! Message From the PresidentMembers all, It is hard to believe we are heading into August already. Thanks to everyone who came to the event either to show a vehicle or to show support for our great club!I am very proud to lead this organization and I know we had one of the best showings ever.

The Hurst Olds National at Hershey was another fantastic event and while I am not a Hurst owner you have to want to be one! Rick and Sharon Tice were the hosts for this National event and we as a club are so proud of them . Thanks to all members for coming out to support our own and help wherever needed. Rick’s “back from the beyond” restoration of the 1976-77 prototype is a statement of the love of Oldsmobiles for all. Early in August is Macungie’s Das Awkscht Fescht where the Blue/Gray Chapter will host the Oldsmobile Field for one of the Northeast’s largest gatherings. We will again have our famous pulled pork for everyone Oldsmobile. We also will have cold drinks and pasta salad for all to enjoy. Please if attending do your best to talk to other Olds owners and make a pitch to join our club. Membership is our life’s blood. Our annual Blue/Gray family picnic is set for Sunday August 19th and we hope everyone will make an attempt to attend. It is a perfect time to relax and enjoy each others company without the hassle of running a car show! We do not take enough time in today’s world to smell the flowers. Looking forward to another trip down the canal as once is not enough to see this great historical site. Join Us!!! Children and pets are also welcome! We are proud and honored to be back at the Texas Roadhouse in Hanover Pa. Sunday September 23rd for our annual fall show. We will be there early this year to begin setup. Anyone who wants to lend a hand, I expect to be there around 9am as we are staying in the area for a few days to relax and enjoy the countryside. This year we will have great goodie bags for all participants with help from some big national companies like STP, Armor All, Permatex, 303 Areospace Protectant and many more. I made some excellent contacts at the Keystone Automotive Convention last March thanks to my dear friend Mickey from Mickey’s Automotive Specialists here in Hazleton. Mick introduced me to all the right people to get some great products and goodies for our bags. Mickey was a founding father of Speed Shops in the Northeast starting in 1968 and continuing today.

My thanks to everyone for making this year a fantastic experience and I cannot wait for our upcoming events.

Yours in Oldsmobile,Rich Saullo

EVENT REPORT

! On Saturday we had at least 41 Oldsmobiles in attendance. Oldsmobiles from as far away as NW Ohio and East Hartford, Connecticut won awards from the Carlisle judges.! The Blue/Gray Chapter and Delaware Valley Oldsmobile Club also presented awards based on popular vote by Olds owners. We’d like to thank Jeff Antonucci and the DVOC for cohosting and for their financial support. We look forward to joining with them again next year. We’d also like to thank Rick Marco and the staff at Carlisle Events.! A special thanks to Rick Tice, who has made our club much more involved with Carlisle Events in the past few years. Rick is also an official Carlisle judge. Rick thanks for your help and advice.

Kerm Shindledeckerʼs fiberglass bodied 55 race car was REAL popular.

! In the background on the left side of this photo are the 3 American Hornbeam trees, that were planted in 2005, for the Blue/Gray Chapter, Delaware Valley Oldsmobile Club, and the Allegheny Rockets at our “Oldsmobile Forever” show. They seem to be healthy and growing.

! Back in the spring we received an invitation form the Mason Dixon Buick Club to enter Oldsmobiles in their show at the Freysinger dealership, in Mechanicsburg, PA. The show was held on June 16. Five Oldsmobiles were there for the show and first place in the Oldsmobile class was awarded to our own Bob & Carolyn Archerʼs 1959 Super 88 convertible.! The free food was good too. My compliments to the chef. I donʼt like his hat, though. Hyundai?12
