Blow Heaters

1 Product Description

SKOV A/S supplies direct-fired blow heaters as a supplement to or as a replacement for water-based

indirect-fired heating systems.

Direct-fired means that the generation of heat takes place as a result of direct, open combustion of gas

in the house section itself.

Please note that some countries prohibit heating of livestock houses by means of direct-fired blow

heaters and that some countries require special approvals of the various types of burners. Blow heaters

included in the SKOV A/S product range are not to be sold in North America due to lacking UL

approval.

Table 1: Lists the variants of blow heaters used by SKOV A/S.

All sizes of blow heaters are available in two variants - natural gas fired and LPG/Propane fired.

• The blow heaters are designed specifically for application in livestock houses.

• Each blow heater is equipped with an independent controller - BCU (Burner Control Unit).

• The BCU controls and monitors that the burner works correctly as regards safety and output.

• An adjustment procedure as well as an individual test of the blow heaters has been carried out

by the manufacturer.

• The on/off heating function incorporated in the blow heaters is controlled by the DOL climate

computers from SKOV A/S.

• Comes with connection kit for natural gas or LPG/Propane gas.

• The gas grid, pipes, controller and storage tanks are not supplied by SKOV A/S.

• Blow heaters can be used as on/off air circulators, when heating is not required.

Blow Heaters

1.1 Method of Operation

The blow heaters circulate the housing air by means of the built-in fans.

A signal is transmitted from the DOL climate computer from SKOV to the blow heaters to

make them switch on; the climate computer cuts off the signal when the heat requirement has

been covered.

Direct-fired blow heaters cause emission of waste products generated in the combustion

process into the housing air of the livestock house. This brings about a need for higher

minimum ventilation and a higher fuel consumption compared to waterborne heating.

Figure 1: The figure illustrates the application of blow heaters and air circulators in broiler houses. The

blow heaters are suspended from the ceiling below the air inlets and thus heat up the incoming

air.
