Bloomsday @ Stanton
Leopold Bloom walked through Dublin on 16 June 1904… join us for a
Ulyssean taster celebrating Bloomsday in 2017.
For many, James Joyce’s epic novel 'Ulysses' is on the bucket list of many
readers. If you are one of these people and have yet to tackle Joyce's most
famous book, we are offering a taste of Ulysses which will be sure to inspire
you to finally get into it!
Bloomsday celebrations will consist of a lecture on Ulysses given by Dr
Gabrielle Carey, followed by live readings from guests Bob Carr, Aine De
Paor, Justin Fleming, Miri Jassy & Marie McMillan. Enjoy light refreshments
as well as live music inspired by Dublin city and performed by Martin Horan.

New Heritage Centre Exhibition
Locality: telling North Sydney stories in objects and
pictures
A permanent but evolving display that explores various
aspects of North Sydney’s history using the stories
associated with intriguing objects from the collection. The
exhibition features newly acquired items and previously
unseen treasures from the Heritage Centre’s collection
including a stunning ‘Balmain Bug’ two foot racing skiff.

Topic: Radio Astronomy, Collaroy Plateau and the
origins of Wifi
This will be an interesting presentation for the layman -
explaining how a farm boy from Victoria became a
leading Australian scientist. Guest speaker Hastings
Pawsey will outline some of the radio astronomy
pioneering work undertaken by his father, physicist
Joseph Pawsey and the development of technologies
that formed the basis of today’s radio astronomy and
telecommunications, including Wifi and the tie between
Collaroy Plateau and radio astronomy.
