Editorial

February brought much excitement with the takeover of the premier holiday brand “Vacations Exotica”

along with its people and business. This takeover is BL's endeavor to strengthen its foothold in the Tours

domain. As you are aware we are one of the largest travel & tour agents in India providing domestic &

international travel, ticketing, and travel & tourism related services to our clients. With this takeover the

Company will be able to expand its value proposition and offer end-to-end services in the Tours and MICE

segment as Vacations Exotica brings with it a multi-talented work force and a wide range of holiday

packages.

The 148th Foundation Day was celebrated across the Company on 2nd February. We will bring you

glimpses of the celebrations in the next issue of BLOOM.

4th March is observed as National Safety Day across the country. With the aim of spreading awareness

on safety, we will observe the day at Balmer Lawrie and celebrate a National Safety Week from 4th-9th

March in all units/establishments across location. So, gear up for various programs & contests scheduled

during the week and win exciting prizes!

Strategy meet was held in Goa on 24th January 2014. In photo are Joint Secretary [Marketing] and Director [Marketing] - MOPNG, Government Directors and the whole time Directors.

On 7th February, 2014 the results for the quarter ending 31st December 2013, were adopted by the

Board. The net income was Rs 647 crores and the Profit Before Tax (PBT) stood at Rs 33 crores. The net income for nine months ending 31st December 2013 was Rs 2009 crores and the PBT was Rs 126 crores.

Third Quarter Results

"Vacations Exotica" is now an integral Business Unit of Balmer Lawrie and will be known as SBU: Tours -

Vacations Exotica. Vacations Exotica began operations in October 2007 and currently has a team with

more than 118 people, 9 offices in India, 4 associate offices Including 1 in USA and is represented by 113

New SBU

SBU: T&T participated in Petrotech 2014, the 11th International Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition

organised under the aegis of MoPNG, GOI. T&T put up a travel desk at the Exhibition which was held from

12th to 15th January, 2014 at the India Exposition Mart, Greater Noida, Delhi (NCR).

BL Updates

As part of its continuous branding efforts for Balmerol, G&L, Kolkata branded a Bus Shelter at Ruby

Hospital crossing in January 2014.

In January, Logistics Services, Kolkata

successfully handled a consignment of M/s

Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. at Kolkata port.

The project involved hiring of

vessel, handling of project cargo and

transportation of Over Dimensional Cargo

(ODC) from Kolkata to Assam. The total

parcel volume was 3030 freight ton which

included several heavy lift packages.

Logistics Services, Kolkata executed a project consignment of IOCL & EIL at Paradeep port, Orissa in

January 2014.

LI, Kolkata was one of the sponsors of the

Seahorse Guild an annual cultural event

organised for a charitable cause by the

Seahorse Group. This year the program was

held on 17th January at Kolkata. Seahorse, a

Business Standard organized a Quiz Contest for

Corporates, B - Schools and Engineering Colleges on

1st February at Kolkata. A total number of 60 teams

participated in the event. The Quiz Master was Mr.

Gaurav Sri Krishna, a well-known name in the

quizzing circle. Balmer Lawrie was represented by

Mr. Amit Paladhi [Head - HSE & SD] and Ms.

Kshama Agarwal [Asst. Manager, Strategic

Planning].

Involvement of employees is important for achieving sustainability goals. In keeping with this, 131

employees were engaged in HSE, SD & CSR workshops in 8 different batches in Manali, Chennai.

Republic Day was celebrated with much fervor at

G&L, Silvassa. The flag was hoisted by the workmen

amidst employees and their family members.

Workshop for Executives at Manali Complex

HAZMAT TRAINING

A specialized training on Identification, Handling, Storage and Emergency Management of Dangerous

Goods & Hazardous Material was conducted at CFS, Mumbai by Head [HSE &SD]. Concerned Executives,

Security personnel, Forklift & Reach stacker operators attended the training. This training was first of its

kind at BL and a similar training is being planned for CFS Chennai & Kolkata.

Balmer Lawrie was a silver sponsor of the Global

Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), the annual

international corporate summit conducted by the

Entrepreneurship Cell of IIT Kharagpur. GES 2014

was organized at IIT Kharagpur from 10th to 12th

January, 2014. It is the largest student-level

entrepreneurial summit in India.

Glimpses from the City of Joy

Raj Bhavan is the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal and is located in Kolkata. Built in 1803, it was

known as the Government House in the pre-independence days. Later after the transfer of power from the East India

Company to the British Crown in 1858, it became the official residence of the Viceroy of India. With the shifting of

capital to Delhi in 1911 it became the official residence of Lieutenant Governor of Bengal. Since independence in 1947

it serves as the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal and came to be known as the Raj Bhavan.
