also be tough. This book is your guide to success in BloodRayne; you can refer to it for help with any aspect of the game. You’ll find it aninvaluable resource.

Whether you read this book cover to cover or refer to individual sec-tions (like an encyclopedia) is completely up to you. The informationprovided herein runs the gamut from general tips to specific, step-by-step walkthroughs of the entire game, complete with maps.

Check out the “BloodRayne,” “Weapons and Items,” and “GeneralStrategy” sections before starting the game. Then refer to the“Enemies” portion and the walkthrough sections as you move throughthe game and encounter new challenges.

When you’ve beaten the game, it’s time to peruse the cheats in“Cheat Codes.” Some of them are handy, some of them are humorous, and some of them are total game-breakers. You’ll definitely want tosave these codes for last.

But in the end, it’s all up to you. So sharpen up those three-footblades, practice your deadly rebound kicks, and grab that rusty oldPanzerfaust from the closet. It’s going to be a long, strange, bloody trip, and you don’t want to miss a step of it.

BloodRayneBloodRayne is a unique character with unique traits. This section is a brief overview of BloodRayne’s most impor-tant skills and abilities. You need a working knowledge of her capabilities if you’re to succeed in the game.

VisionModesRayne can switch from normal visionto various different vision modes. Here’s a look at those modes, and rec-ommendations on when to use them.

    Aura Sense

Aura Sense shows the world in brightcolors. Targets and destinations shinebright blue, while strong and alertenemies are green. Enemies thatRayne can feed upon show up red.

Aura Sense is useful for a begin-ning player, but with experience youneed it less and less—and eventuallynot at all.

    DilatedPerception

Dilated Perception is not immediatelyavailable; Rayne acquires it at thestart of the Argentina missions.

Dilated Perception puts the worldinto slow motion. It is a true lifesaverin tough battles. For example, fightingan enemy that’s as fast as Rayne canresult in a confusing blur of activity. It’s easy to get roughed up before youeven know what hit you. DilatedPerception lets you slow everythingdown, see what’s going on, and reactto each attack. It allows you to dodgebullets and melee strikes, and jumpout of the way before something badhappens.

Use Dilated Perception in most ofthe tough “boss” battles of the mid-to-late game. It’s also useful in situationswhere Rayne needs to navigate a dan-gerous bit of terrain.

    Extruded View

Extruded View becomes available verylate in the Argentina missions, whenRayne collects the eye of Beliar.

Extruded View allows you to zoomin so you can scout targets from a distance. It also contains a crosshair, enabling more precise weapon firing.Extruded View is useful when usingquick, single-shot weapons such asrockets and bullet-type weapons.

Use Extruded View sparingly;Rayne freezes in place when she usesit, making her an easy target. However, when you do use it, it can bevital for placing rockets and bulletsexactly where you want them.

AttacksRayne has a wide array of attacks. Here’s a review of them, along with abreakdown of when to use each.

    Weapons

Rayne can attack with guns, rocketlaunchers, and grenades found on hervictims’ bodies. Guns are also placedin almost every level; some are hiddenin containers while others are in plain sight.

NoteExperience teaches you whichenemies can be fed upon, andunder what circumstances. Thecompass ring in the screen’sbottom-right corner containsblue dots that point out yourcurrent objectives, without theneed for Aura Sense.

    4 primagames.com

The power of these attacks dependson the weapons Rayne is using at the time.

    Selecting SpecialWeapons

Rayne automatically picks up superiorguns and drops lesser ones. Specialweapons are an exception to this rule. You must manually drop one specialweapon in favor of another.

Rocket-style weapons are the mostpowerful special weapons. However, they may not be suited for battles thattake place in enclosed spaces.

Heavy machine guns are best forkilling durable enemies, like GGGOfficers, from point-blank range.

    PrioritizingWeapons

At any time, you can order Rayne toequip her lightest guns, heaviest guns, grenades, or her special weapon.

The lightest guns are suitable formaking mildly challenging situationssomewhat easier. For example, lightguns are useful if Rayne’s health is lowand she wants to thin out a group of sol-diers so she can feed in relative safety.

Heavy guns are good against toughbut common enemies, like GGG EliteTroops. They can also be very effectiveat dealing with unique boss enemies, especially after you’ve used up yourspecial weapon. Special weapons andgrenades are best against masses ofenemies and tough bosses.

    Hand-To-HandAttacks

Rayne performs a series of meleeattacks whenever you press the attackbutton. She automatically progressesfrom one attack to the next in the comboas long as she makes contact with a targetor breakable object.

When the game starts Rayne canonly perform two combos in a row. Shegradually gains the ability to performextra attacks as the game progresses. The maximum number of comboattacks that Rayne can perform in arow is five. All of Rayne’s meleeattacks work well against her enemies.

    Rebound Kick

Press the jump button once to jump.Press it again in midair to make Raynespiral straight forward, kicking any-thing she comes in contact with alongthe way.

Rebound kicks deal decent damageto enemies, although they are bestused against barriers. Use the reboundkick on doors, windows, and weakspots in walls.

Destroy doors, windows, and wallsto continue along the path. Somedoors and windows are reinforced andindestructible. And walls only crumbleif they’re already weak. Small holesare your visual cue that a wall can bedestroyed.

A few objects require multiple kicksto destroy. Even these show some dam-age after the first kick, so don’t wastetime kicking areas that show noresponse to your attacks.

NoteGenerally speaking, you shouldn’t waste bullets onminor enemies. Save them fortough fights and for enemiesthat are more or less immune tohand-to-hand attacks.

  • blo

    od

    ra

    yne

Even more frequently, you userebound kicks to get some extra dis-tance on your jumps. You don’t gainany height with a rebound kick, butyou move farther ahead in the direc-tion you’re already headed. This extradistance is often needed in areasdemanding long jumps.

    Harpoon Attacks

Tap the harpoon button to lash out atan enemy. But the damage inflicted onthe enemy is minor. The harpoonattack is most effective when Raynewants to feed on or attack an enemy, but she doesn’t want to get too close.

For feeding, press and hold the harpoon button. Rayne then harpoonsa humanoid enemy, drags him close, and jumps down to feed on him. Forexample, you would reel in an enemythat’s standing in ankle-deep water.

Rayne will gain the ability to do amidair lash during the Argentina mission.Once earned, jump and press the harpoon button while Rayne is in midair to executethe attack. It deals minimal damage, buthas a good chance of dismemberment. Itcan be used instead of melee attacks if youwant to stay on the move. When you’refighting several small, fast enemies, jumpand lash out at them instead of standingstill. You take less damage by constantlybeing on the move.

    Blood Rage

Rayne has a Bloodlust meter in thescreen’s bottom-right corner. Whenit’s completely filled and blinking,Rayne can press the Blood Rage but-ton and enter the state of Blood Rage.

In Blood Rage mode, time slowsdown (though not as much as whenusing Dilated Perception), and Rayneuses a set of special combo attacksinstead of her usual melee attacks.

The combo attacks performed inBlood Rage are vastly more powerfulthan standard combo attacks.

As with standard combo attacks,Rayne doesn’t start out capable of performing all five moves in the special combo. She gains extra combomoves as the game progresses.

The Bloodlust meter ticks downwhile Rayne’s in Blood Rage. Whenthe Bloodlust meter is empty, BloodRage ends and Rayne needs to build it back up before triggering another Blood Rage. The Blood Rage meter builds up automatically as Rayne performs melee attacks.

    ManagingBloodlust

You can cancel a Blood Rage by press-ing the Blood Rage button again. YourBlood Rage often lasts long afteryou’ve killed your primary target(s).Canceling the Blood Rage early allowsRayne to conserve Bloodlust so shedoesn’t have to build the meter all theway back up next time.

Also, get in the habit of slashing atenemies specifically to build upBloodlust, then save it for toughfights. Having a full Bloodlust meter isvital when fighting tough battlesagainst boss enemies.

    6 primagames.com

    Special RageAttack

In the middle of the game, you gainthe ability to perform a “Rage Attack”without actually entering Blood Rage.Do it by pressing the Blood Ragebutton and the attack button simultaneously.

This Rage Attack deals less damagethan a melee attack performed in trueBlood Rage, but the advantage is thatyou can trigger it even if your Bloodlustmeter isn’t completely full.

Using this attack drains about 1/3 ofthe Bloodlust out of the meter.

    Weaknesses

Rayne’s only true weakness is water. Itdoesn’t kill her outright, but standingin water quickly damages her. Sheneeds to minimize her contact withwater at all costs.

In most cases, Rayne can avoidcontact with water by running alongpower lines, jumping from one dryspot to another, or bypassing floodedareas completely.

If Rayne has to get wet, jump asmuch as possible to minimize contactwith the water. Get in, do what youhave to do in the flooded area, and getout quickly.

NoteThis attack can be useful whenyou want to dispatch a toughfoe but your Bloodlust meterisn’t high enough.

DifficultyLevelsChoose a new game to begin playingBloodRayne. You will then have the optionto choose Easy, Normal or Hard mode. Thesettings affect BloodRayne’s resilience. InHard mode, Rayne takes a large amount ofdamage every time she is hurt. The oppo-site holds true for Easy mode.

In Easy mode, every time you contin-ue after dying or restart the level, Rayne’shealth is fully restored. In Normal mode,Rayne’s health restores proportionate tothe amount of time played in the levelbefore continuing or restarting. If yourestart immediately upon entering a level,BloodRayne’s health will be the same. However, if you play for a few minutesbefore starting, BloodRayne starts withmore health than she originally had. InHard mode, BloodRayne’s health willnever restore from restarting or continu-ing after death.

WeaponsThis chapter details the guns BloodRayne encounters in the game.In addition to depicting the guns and listing ammo amounts, you’llget a sense of how powerful each weapon is, and in what situationsit’s useful.

In most cases Rayne automatically picks up weapons she walksover. She’ll automatically drop lesser weapons for better ones.

This is not the case with special weapons, however. She hascomplete control over whether to drop a special weapon or keepthe one she already has. Therefore, special weapons are the mostimportant weapons to understand.

Important Noteson WeaponsGuns are broken down by the territory in which they’re found. One section covers Louisiana guns, while the other covers theGerman guns found in the Argentina and Germany locales.

Guns are then listed by category, in ascending order of powerand usefulness. Pistols are weakest and are therefore always list-ed first. Next come SMGs (submachine guns), heavy SMGs,assault rifles, and grenade-style weapons. Special weapons arethe most potent and always come last.

Finally, weapons are listed in ascending order within eachsection. For example, in a table listing four pistols, the first pistollisted is always the weakest, and the last one is always thestrongest.

Mobile targets are more difficult to hit than stationary targets.

Louisiana GunsThe following weapons are found in the Louisiana portion of the game.

    Light and heavy Weapons

Pistols are the only form of light weapon found in Louisiana. They’re serviceable against everything you’ll encounter in thatsection of the game.

    Special Weapons

Louisiana’s special weapons are a diverse lot:

    Louisiana Special WeaponsName Ammo Illustration

    Breaning A5 Shotgun 5

    Ethica 33 Shotgun 8

    Double Barrel Shotgun 2

    M1918GAR Machine Gun 40

These special weapons can be broken into several categories. The sniper rifle shoots a great distance, and each hit has a high

chance of dismembering the target.Shotguns are excellent general-purpose weapons and highly

recommended. They dismember the target and kill with a singleshot. The Ethica probably represents the best balance of ammo andshots, while the Double Barrel cannot be beat for sheer power.

The M1918GAR is a powerful machine gun—the only machinegun available in Louisiana. It’s not as effective as Shotguns at hittingmultiple targets at close range, but it has a longer effective rangeand can deal severe damage in a short period of time.

German WeaponsThe following weapons are used by the German army inArgentina and Germany. Each weapon entry states whetherthe weapon appears in Argentina, in Germany, or in bothlocations.

    Light and heavy Weapons

These light weapons are suitable for chipping away at largegroups of soldiers.

    Pistols

German pistols deal decent damage, and are best againstsmall targets. Don’t use them against durable bosses.

These heavy weapons are not only useful against crowds of enemies, but against lone, durable targets such as bosses.

The Tatermasher is the German grenade. As with dynamite, savethe Tatermasher for slow or durable targets, such as certain over-sized bosses. (Daemite Warriors come to mind.)

Otherwise, these grenades are more significant as a hazardfor Rayne to avoid than as a tool for her to use.

    Special Weapons

German special weapons include a couple of holdover shotgunsfrom Louisiana.

Granatewurf 10 Argentina, Grenade Launcher Germany

Panzerfaust 1 Argentina, Rocket Launcher Germany

Panzershrek 3 Argentina, Rocket Launcher Germany

The sniper rifle, like its Louisiana cousin, is useless in close combat due to its slow rate of fire. Save it for instances whereyou can see the target from a long distance.

Shotguns continue to be excellent workhorses in Argentinaand Germany. They’re suitable against any tough target.

Machine guns are handy for mini-bosses, such as GGGOfficers. A machine gun can usually chew up a GGG Officer in just a couple of seconds, keeping him paralyzed with pain theentire time.

The Granatewurf is an intriguing weapon, but it’s only usefulagainst slow bosses. The weapon is too hard to control againstfaster targets.

The Panzerfaust and Panzershrek rocket launchers are identical, except that the Panzershrek can hold up to three rockets.

Rockets are best against tight clusters of enemies and massivetargets. Again, Daemite Warriors come to mind, as do MobileArmor Units.

Don’t use rockets against close-range targets, and be carefulwhen aiming them. Extruded View is handy for making sure therockets hit the target, not the ground in front of you.

Louisiana Louisiana enemies are mainly victims of(or bearers of) a mysterious plague. Theyaren’t deadly when compared with laterfoes, but they present a challenge, espe-cially in large groups.

None of these enemies are encounteredin later sections of the game. They’restrictly confined to Louisiana.

    Mutates

Mutates are former humans suffering froman advanced form of the mysteriousswamp disease. They’ve been horriblymutated, and now possess long tentaclessuitable for lashing out at their victims.

Mutates’ brains have melted to sludge, leaving them aggressive toward every-thing, but not terribly bright. They attackanything that moves, including othermutated creatures (such as Diseased).

StrengthsMutates are weak foes. Their only advan-tage over Rayne is their long tentaclearms. They have good reach, so she needsto either get very close (so she can attack)or back away completely.

    Diseased

Diseased are townsfolk affected with thesame disease as the Mutates. Their condi-tion is not advanced, so they still lookmostly human.

They possess enough human intelli-gence to use guns, making them moredangerous than the Mutates, which haveno long-range attack.

StrengthsThe ability to fire guns makes Diseasedmore dangerous than Mutates. UnlikeMutates, which are ignored, Diseasedmust be handled.

Depending on their weapons, Diseasedcan be ineffective or very effective. Thetoughest Diseased have shotguns thatdeal potent close-range damage—someeven have dynamite.

WeaknessesDiseased aren’t as slow as Mutates, butthey’re still comparatively slow.

Like Mutates, Diseased cannot block ordefend against any of Rayne’s attacks, including melee attacks and guns.

Diseased with weak weapons are aminor threat.

EnemiesBloodRayne features a wide array of fiendish enemies. They run the gamut from common to fantastical, weak to supernaturally strong, and foolish to crafty. This section lists all of Rayne’s foes, pointing out their strengths and weaknesses, and recommending effectivemethods of destroying them.

Enemies are sorted by the region in which they first appear (Louisiana, Argentina, Germany). Within each region they’re listed inascending order of toughness, starting with common grunts and leading up to unique “bosses.”

WeaknessesMutates are slow, both in foot speed andattack speed. They deal minor damagewhen they do get in an attack. It’s easy to circle around them for an attack fromthe rear.

    Strategy

Rayne feeds on Mutates. They’re the easiest free lunch in the game, so seekthem out whenever Rayne needs torestore her health.

If you encounter Mutates along withother foes, go after the other foes firstleaving the Mutates for last. They presentthe least danger of any enemy.

Mutates are easily ignored. They’re soslow that they present little danger ifthey’re not in your way. Run past them ifyou don’t plan to come back.

NoteSince Mutates will fight any-thing, hang back and allowthem to pester other enemies, then attack when one party haskilled the other.

    Strategy

The easiest way to deal with Diseased isto feed on them. This even works againstlarge groups. Feed on one Diseased, thenmove to the next, and the next, untilthey’re all gone.

You can also kill Diseased with a fewblade attacks, or with guns—though theyseldom merit guns.

If you spot a Diseased with dynamite, wait until it throws the stick, then getaway from it. Take down the Diseased, butdon’t stand too close to thrown dynamitein the process.

The bottom line is that Diseased are weakenemies, suitable for feeding, and onlyoccasionally are a serious threat.

    Maraisreq

Maraisreq (“Swamp Monsters”) are theinsect-like creatures invading the town ofMortton, Louisiana. They swallow towns-folk whole and regurgitate the liquefiedremains.

They can’t do this to Rayne, but theycan deal damage with their vicious, lunging bites.

StrengthsMaraisreq are fast and deal reasonabledamage with their bites. They’re danger-ous in packs, especially if they surroundRayne.

They can absorb a few blade slices orshots from an average gun.

WeaknessesMaraisreq are vulnerable from the sidesand rear, where they can’t bite.

Their legs come off easily. They even-tually sprout new ones, but a Maraisreqmissing its legs is temporarily vulnerable.Circle around it and deal the death blow.

Maraisreq have no long-rangeattacks. They’re fast, but Rayne can getaway quickly if she uses a rebound kick.

    Strategy

Maraisreq are dangerous when you’re infront of them, where they can bite. Fight

a circling battle, hacking with blades untilthe legs come off, then slash a couplemore times to finish the job.

If you face a pack of Maraisreq, jump tothe side (so you don’t get surrounded) anduse the same circling technique you’d useagainst a lone Maraisreq.

If you get into trouble, use guns or trigger a Blood Rage, which allows Rayneto hack through the Maraisreq with astonishing speed.

    MaraisreqSoldier

These creatures are bigger, redder, andtougher Maraisreq. They have no uniqueabilities; they’re just superior to the standard Maraisreq.

StrengthsMaraisreq Soldiers are tougher, hit harder, and jump farther than the commonMaraisreq.

WeaknessesJust like the standard Maraisreq, thesethings have no long-range attack, andthey’re vulnerable when their legs arehacked off.

StrategyFight a circling battle. Shoot them withsmall weapons, or hack them with blades.Keep moving and you’ll rarely take damage.

NoteIf Rayne’s being shot at whilefeeding, turn around and use thevictim as a shield.

NoteIf you’re feeding on somethingand dynamite is tossed nearby, press the jump button to stopfeeding, then get out of there.

    NoteRayne can’t feed on Maraisreq.

    Queen of theUnderworld

The Queen of the Underworld is the firstboss creature Rayne faces.

The Queen of the Underworld resem-bles a giant Maraisreq. She’s huge and hasa bite attack that deals severe damagewhen it hits.

StrengthsThe Queen of the Underworld deals substantial damage with each hit. She canattack at medium range if Rayne is in front of her.

The Queen produces a constant supplyof Maraisreq, which act as a nuisance during Rayne’s fight against her.

WeaknessesComparatively slow to move and turn, theQueen of the Underworld is not nimble.

Sever her legs and she falls to theground helpless until they regenerate.Regeneration takes several seconds.

    Strategy

Avoid standing in front of the Queen.Continually circle her and avoid her jaws.

Rip off a couple of legs as quickly aspossible, either with blade attacks orshotgun blasts. The Queen crashes to theground.

Circle behind her and slash away. Triggera Blood Rage if you have it; this is the key todealing massive damage quickly.

If the Queen gets up, repeat thisprocess.

For the most part, you can ignore theother Maraisreq, though you can shredthe closest ones along with the Queen ifyou trigger a Blood Rage.

ArgentinaArgentina increases the difficultyimmensely, introducing a wide array oftough enemies.

Some of these enemies—most notablythe German soldiers and officers of alltypes—appear in Germany as well asArgentina.

    Soldiers

Common soldiers comprise the bulk ofthe German army. They’re not a majorthreat, especially when alone. However, they can be a concern if they appear in numbers.

Often, soldiers appear in mixed groups with SS troopers or various types of officers.

Soldiers wield a variety of guns. Thesoldier’s effectiveness depends almostentirely on the sort of gun he’s carrying.

StrengthsSoldiers often appear in numbers. Themore of them there are, the tougher theyare.

Soldiers with explosive weapons areamong the most dangerous foes in thegame. Grenades and panzers (rocketlaunchers) deal severe damage to Rayne,so she needs to watch for soldiers withthese weapons.

Soldiers always have a long-rangeattack, so don’t ignore them as long asthey have a view of Rayne.

If there are alarms in the area, soldierswill try to trigger them. The result is aflood of extra soldiers.

WeaknessesSoldiers with weak guns are weak ene-mies. Most of them have pistols or smallmachine guns, and these are not a majorthreat.

Both blade attacks and guns work wellagainst soldiers.

Rayne can feed on soldiers at any time, either by using her harpoon or by jumpingon their backs. They’re the most commonfood source in the game.

Soldiers sometimes become frightened, especially when hurt, and run away. Theycan run at a moderate pace, but Rayne ismuch faster.

    Strategy

NoteTo build up your Bloodlustmeter in relative safety, getaway from the Queen andattack the small Maraisreq.Return to face the Queen whenthe meter is full.

  • enem

    13

Feed on soldiers whenever possible. They’re a valuable resource because ofthe health and guns they provide.

Rayne can kill a small (or even medium-sized) group of soldiers just byfeeding. Hop from one to the other untilthey’re all dead. Rayne takes some damage from the others’ guns, but if sheturns her victim and uses him as ahuman shield, she can minimizethe damage.

Blade attacks are another way of killingsoldiers. To build up Rayne’s Bloodlustmeter for a big fight, slash soldiers.

To kill a large group of soldiers, aBlood Rage works well. You can alsoshoot them, though they’re usually awaste of guns.

    Hazmat Soldiers

Hazmat soldiers are identical to commonsoldiers in all but dress. They wear spe-cial suits that protect them from hostileenvironments.

They carry the same array of weaponsand have the same characteristics ascommon soldiers. They’re only listed separately because they look so different.

    SS Troopers

SS troopers are highly trained, specializedGerman soldiers. They’re typically foundin small numbers, either mixed in withcommon soldiers or defending an officer.

SS troopers carry the same array ofweapons carried by common soldiers. Aswith common soldiers, their threat level istied directly to the weapon they use.

StrengthsHere are SS troopers’ advantages over acommon soldier:

    • They’re more durable.• They can block Rayne’s blade attacks,

unless attacked from the side or rear.• They resist Rayne’s feeding attempts,

unless they’re frightened, low onhealth, or surprised.

Their ability to block and resist feedingmakes a big difference. Rayne can’t justfeed on an SS trooper to kill him, and shecan’t slice him when he’s facing her.

WeaknessesSS troopers have no true, debilitatingweaknesses. They are vulnerable to cer-tain attacks, however.

They can be hit by standard bladeattacks if Rayne circles and attacks fromthe side or back.

Blood Rage allows Rayne to hit fromanywhere, including the front. Blood Rageattacks slice through blocks.

SS troopers cannot block gunfire, so gunsare a quick way of dealing with them.

Finally, if Rayne sneaks up without theirnoticing, or damages them past a certainpoint, she can feed on them.

    Strategy

If an SS trooper has a potent, explosiveweapon, kill him as quickly as possiblewith your guns.

If an SS trooper is mixed in with common soldiers, go after the SS trooperfirst. Guns are the preferred method, though a Blood Rage works well. You canalso use standard blade attacks if you continually circle, but this takes more timeand skill.

Don’t feed on SS troopers if there’s easier prey around.

If you want or need to feed on an SStrooper, the standard method is to getclose, fire a burst of gunfire into him, quickly circle around, and feed from therear. The bullets are usually sufficient toeither scare the trooper or damage him tothe point where he’s vulnerable.

Do this correctly and Rayne jumps onhis back and feeds. If she’s repulsed, fire acouple more rounds and try again.

NoteIf her weapon is in her lefthand, Rayne can fire it whilefeeding. Line her gun up with astanding enemy, and pull thetrigger.

NoteAura Sense helps with feedingon SS troopers. They glow redwhenever Rayne can feed.

    Unteroffizier(Low-rankingOfficers)

Low-ranking officers are not the target offi-cers that Rayne is tasked with killing in theArgentina and Germany portions of thegame. Rather, they’re common opponentswho have enhanced combat abilities.

Their combat skill and toughness isfairly comparable to that of an SS trooper.

StrengthsLow-ranking officers have all the charac-teristics of an SS trooper.

Their extra advantage is that they maywield a knife for short-range attacks. However, this rarely comes up. Rayne shouldcircle them while fighting, and never allowthem the chance to counterattack.

WeaknessesWeaknesses are identical to those of the SS trooper.

    Strategy

Use the same strategies you’d use againstSS troopers.

    GGG EliteTroopers

Just as lesser officers’ abilities are onestep higher than those of SS troopers,GGG troopers’ abilities are one step higher than those of lesser officers.

StrengthsThe only difference between GGG troopersand low-ranking officers is that they haveextra moves.

They can perform a couple of extrahand-to-hand attacks, and they can firetheir weapons while diving or rollingaway from Rayne’s attacks. This makesthem harder to hit and more effective atclose-range combat.

WeaknessesGGG troopers have the same weaknessesas SS troopers.

    Strategy

Though slightly tougher and harder tohit, GGG troopers are functionally similarto SS troopers and low-ranking officers.Fight them in the same way you’d fightthose other enemies.

    GGG Officers

These officers are Rayne’s targetsthroughout the Argentina and Germanycampaigns. Killing one or more of these officers is often the objective of a particular level.

When fighting these opponents, a“boss” picture indicating the officer’shealth appears in the lower-right cornerof the screen.

StrengthsGGG officers are much like GGG troopers.

They have a slightly larger repertoireof hand-to-hand attacks and evasivemoves than GGG troopers.

The main difference is durability. GGG officers can take a great deal of punishment.

WeaknessesGGG officers are vulnerable to the sameattacks as SS troopers and GGG troopers.

    Strategy

GGG officers are usually encountered in acrowd. Therefore, your tactics must takemultiple enemies into consideration.

One way of taking these guys down isto initiate a Blood Rage. A Blood Rageallows you to chop them up quickly, keepingthem stunned and unable to counterattackin the meantime. Also, since many ofRayne’s Blood Rage attacks affect a widearc, you can take down other foes at thesame time.

The other method is to use a heavy-caliber weapon, then gun them downfrom close range. Get up in their facesand hold down the trigger.

    Daemites

Daemites are parasitic creatures that flythrough the air and lash Rayne with theirtails. They like to inhabit human bodies, forcing themselves in through the mouth, then taking direct control of the body.

The Daemites discussed here are “PureDaemites,” or Daemites that have nottaken control of a host body. They looksoft and gooey, but don’t be fooled; theycan pose a genuine threat.

StrengthsPure Daemites move quickly. They alsofly, so obstacles mean little to them.

They cannot infest Rayne, so theyslash her with their tails. They’re smalland difficult to hit.

Pure Daemites are almost completelyunaffected by bullet weapons, so don’tshoot them.

Also, Pure Daemites writhe and wriggleso much, even after being hacked apart, it isdifficult to tell whether they are dead.

WeaknessesPure Daemites can be hacked apart withone well-aimed slash. Sometimes theytake more abuse, but they are notdurable.

Also, as they have no long-rangeattacks, Pure Daemites can be ignoredwhen they’re on different floors or levelsthan Rayne. They can fly, but they seldomleave their general area.

    Strategy

Run or jump away to get distance fromthese creatures, then run in and time your slashes to hack them to bits.

Blood Rage is useful against largegroups of them, but it’s overkill against smaller groups.

When they’re in close-range, fight acircling battle to avoid getting slashedwith their tails.

    ParasiticDaemites

Parasitic Daemites are Daemites that haveinhabited a host. They have wrapped theirtails around the host’s spinal column and

control the host’s actions like those of apuppet.

They look almost identical to theinfested host, save that the head is unmis-takably a Daemite head.

StrengthsParasitic Daemites retain all the moves, skills, and abilities of the host. Therefore,an infested SS trooper can still blockRayne’s frontal blade attacks and feedingattempts.

Parasitic Daemites are more durablethan their host originally was. Therefore, aDaemite GGG trooper can take more abusethan a regular GGG trooper.

Parasitic Daemites never become afraid. If a Parasitic Daemite loses its limbs it

can still move. In fact, a Parasitic Daemitethat has lost its legs can fly around andinflict extra-damaging attacks. Therefore, ifa Parasitic Daemite loses its legs, concen-trate on it, and finish it off immediately.

If you kill a Parasitic Daemite with bullet weapons, or by feeding, the PureDaemite inside will survive. The host bodydies, but now you’re faced with a PureDaemite.

WeaknessesRayne can and should feed on ParasiticDaemites. Most of them were commonsoldiers, so they cannot block her feedingattempts.

    Strategy

Large groups of Parasitic Daemites arebest killed with Blood Rage.

NoteIf possible, whittle down theofficers’ support troops first.

  • Prima’s Official Strategy GuideTM

    16 primagames.com

Smaller groups should be hacked apartwith blades, or fed upon individually. Usecircling attacks to avoid return damage.

Guns work, but as noted above, the Pure Daemite inside can survive a bullet attack.

Always keep moving when fightingthese creatures.

Feed on Parasitic Daemites wheneveryou need the health. They have lots of lifeenergy and provide Rayne with a goodamount of health.

    High Priest Von Blut

The first of the Argentina bosses, thisThule High Priest is a tough customer. Hehides inside an armored pulpit with afront-mounted machine gun and can takeRayne down quickly if she doesn’t use theright tactics.

StrengthsHigh Priest Von Blut cannot be harmed bya frontal assault, thanks to his armoredpulpit.

The pulpit is open in the rear, but itslides to the other end of the room in adefensive move if Rayne starts to getbehind it.

The front-mounted machine gun dealssevere damage.

WeaknessesThe pulpit is open in back. The HighPriest is vulnerable while the pulpit issliding from one side of the room to theother. Rayne must exploit this weakness.

The pulpit is stationary except whensliding to avoid Rayne’s circling attacks. Therefore, if Rayne stands behind anobstacle, she cannot be hit.

    Strategy

Rayne fights the High Priest in a longroom with columns.

Stand behind a column while the HighPriest fires his machine gun.

The High Priest periodically stops toreload. This takes a few seconds. If you’refar from the pulpit, take this opportunityto get behind a closer column.

If you’re already close to the pulpit, runstraight toward it. Circle around to theback when you get close.

When Rayne gets behind the pulpit, itautomatically starts sliding across thefloor, exposing the High Priest’s back.Chase the pulpit and let loose with bulletweapons (or a Panzerfaust) as it slides.

When the pulpit reaches the other endof the room, get behind a column andrepeat the aforementioned tactics until theHigh Priest is dead.

    Kommando(InfantryColonel)

Kommando is a secretive German fieldops special commander. His favored tac-tics are those of stealth and deception. You encounter him twice in the game—once as a human, and once as a ParasiticDaemite. He’s tougher the second timearound.

StrengthsKommando fights like a GGG officer, though he’s much more durable than thetypical officer. He fires an automatic rifleand fights hand-to-hand.

His one extra skill is the flash grenade. He uses this when he’s in trouble. Oncehe does, Rayne is temporarily blinded andKommando disappears, only to reappearin a completely different location.

He’s assisted by GGG troopers the firsttime you fight him, and ParasiticDaemites the second time.

WeaknessesKommando has no defense against bulletweapons. Like GGG officers, he can blockfrontal blade attacks but cannot deal withside or rear attacks.

    Strategy

    Use Dilated Perception when fightingKommando.

NoteUse Dilated Perception to makethis fight easier.

NoteCommon soldiers periodicallyappear during this fight. Use theharpoon to drag them behind apillar and feed on them. Theirguns are useful if you run out ofbullets.

Run around and kill some of his followers.Bullet weapons are a good way of doing this quickly.

Then focus on Kommando. A goodmethod is to shoot him a couple of times with a bullet weapon as youapproach; this freezes him or knocks him down.

When you’re close, circle and use bladeattacks from the sides and rear. Trigger a Blood Rage when you can and keep dealing damage.

When he uses his flash grenade, runaround until your vision clears and yourcompass shows his location again. Go afterhim. Repeat these techniques until he’s dead.

    The Butcheress(Dr. BathoryMengele)

The Butcheress is the GGG’s lead scientist(and executioner). She attributes hersadistic ways to a long line of ancestral, mortal “vampirism.”

The Butcheress has all of Rayne’smelee moves and a pair of bone saws thatact like Rayne’s blades.

StrengthsYou encounter the Butcheress on a rooftopthat is actually a checkerboard of trap-doors. In addition to an array of kicks, slashes, and other melee attacks, theButcheress runs to a control panel anddrops several of the trapdoors. Fallingmeans instant death for Rayne.

The beams between the trapdoorsbecome electrified when the doors areopen, so standing on the beams is notsafe. Rayne must stand on a trapdoor thatdoes not open.

WeaknessesThe Butcheress has no guns, but this isn’ta real weakness. She can close the gapquickly with her array of high-flying jumpsand kicks.

Rayne’s main advantage is her abilityto Blood Rage.

    Strategy

You should build up your Bloodlust meterbefore encountering the Butcheress andactivate Dilated Perception.

When the battle starts, trigger a BloodRage and assault her with a constant bar-rage of melee attacks. Don’t let up.

If you’re lucky, you can kill her in thatfirst Blood Rage.

If you don’t kill her, use DilatedPerception. Run away from her while fir-ing your heaviest bullet weapons. You canalso use melee attacks when she’s close.Be sure to circle her as you attack.

When she runs toward the controlpanel, be sure Dilated Perception is acti-vated. Watch the trapdoors. The ones thatemit a thin trickle of steam are the onesthat will open. Jump to one that’s safe.

If you can’t tell which trapdoor is safe, start running and jump at the last minute.Rebound kick for extra air, and aim for thewalls at the center of the roof. You mightget lucky and reach a safe spot, or stay airborne just long enough for the trapdoors to close.

    Daemite Warrior

Daemite Warriors bear little resemblanceto regular Daemites. They’re huge, hulk-ing, twisted monstrosities that lash outwith tentacles. They’re tough in groups.

StrengthsDaemite Warriors deal severe damagewith their tentacles and sustain a greatdeal of damage in return.

Bullet weapons have little affect on them.Daemite Warriors are strange and amor-phous looking, so it can be tough to figureout which side is the front. This is importantbecause Rayne needs to avoid standing infront of them.

WeaknessesDaemite Warriors are very slow and haveno long-range attacks.

    Strategy

The first time you encounter DaemiteWarriors is in The Mill Mile. Use explosiveweapons on them; refer to the walk-through for tips on where to find them.

NoteKeep shooting him while he’sdown. This is an easy way topile on the damage.

NoteThe second time you fightKommando, he may reappear inan outside area. One or moreParasitic Daemites out therehave rocket launchers. Focuson killing the rocket wieldersbefore turning your attention toKommando.

Now use your bullet weapons. Then trigger a Blood Rage and run in. Continuallycircle the targets, slashing the whole time. They should be weakened from the explosivesand they will fall quickly.

The second time you encounter them isin Temple Guardians. Ignore the one at thebase of the shaft because he’s slow andcan be avoided.

The key to killing the three at the top iseffective use of your resources. Don’t indis-criminately kill Parasitic Daemites. Letthem live and feed on them after theDaemite Warriors have injured you. Also, hack on the Pure Daemites to build yourBloodlust meter.

Empty all your weapons into the threeDaemite Warriors. Then fight them withBlood Rage, but only when one has gottenfar away from the other two. It’s safer topick on loners.

When you’re out of Bloodlust and lowon health, go back through the level tofeed, collect weapons, and build upBloodlust again. Then return and repeat.

    D. Mauler(InfantryBrigadier General)

    D. Mauler is a huge, muscle-bound Aryanexperiment. He fights bare handed; hismain asset is his massive strength.

StrengthsMauler deals massive damage with hispunches and handclaps.

If Rayne retreats to the upper level cat-walk, he can knock down support pillarsand cause parts of the catwalk to collapse.

    Mauler is immune to gunfire.

WeaknessesMauler is slow to move and turn and hasno long-range attacks. He’s actually notvery tough if you fight him effectively.

    Strategy

Use Dilated Perception and get in close.Circle constantly; never let Mauler get aclean frontal shot at you. Retreat if youthink you might take a hit.

Use melee attacks. When possible, trig-ger a Blood Rage. Keep hacking away athim and he’ll fall quickly.

GermanyGermany contains a number of enemiesfrom Argentina (soldiers, low-ranking officers, SS troopers, GGG troopers, GGGofficers), as well as several unique foes. Here’s a look at your new opponents.

    GGG JetpackTroopers

GGG Jetpack Troopers fly through the airand fire bullet weapons. The very toughestJetpack Troopers may possess rocketweapons.

StrengthsJetpack Troopers are super-fast and agile, almost immune to melee attacks.

They can attack Rayne from above, negating most forms of cover.

They’re very difficult to feed onbecause Rayne can seldom hit them withher harpoon.

When they’re killed, their jetpacks tendto explode. This can damage Rayne if she’sin the vicinity.

    WeaknessesJetpack Troopers aren’t particularlydurable.

    Strategy

Constantly move around and use bulletweapons to gun them down.

Hide behind cover as much as possible—especially anything that puts a roof or objectabove your head. This forces them to dropdown low to attack. They’re easier to shootwhen they’re low to the ground.

NoteDue to their size DaemiteWarriors sometimes get stuckon terrain features. If this hap-pens, you can run up behindthem and fight them withoutBlood Rage. This is the onlytime it’s safe to do so.

NoteSoldiers may periodically enterfrom above. You can feed onthem for health.

If you’re particularly skilled, or ifthey’re close enough, you can harpoon orjump-harpoon them and feed on them.Typically, you should just shoot them andlook for a meal elsewhere.

Run away from their bodies when theydie because their jetpacks tend to explode.

    Bat Creatures

Bat creatures are just what the name sug-gests, giant bats. They fly into the areausing kicking attacks and are hard to hitwhile airborne—but they are vulnerablewhen they land.

StrengthsBat creatures are hard to hit with meleeattacks while they’re airborne.

WeaknessesBat creatures are vulnerable when they’reon the ground. A few slashes or bulletswill kill them.

    Strategy

Shoot them out of the air, or run up andslash them while they’re on the ground. These creatures shouldn’t be more than anuisance.

    Vampires

The vampires Rayne encounters are aspecial breed from New Guinea. Theyhave evolved mouths in each of theirwickedly clawed hands.

These creatures are fast and strong, but they’re nothing Rayne can’t handle.

StrengthsVampires move quickly and hit hard. They’re also durable and often encoun-tered in groups.

WeaknessesVampires have no long-range attacks, soRayne can shoot them while retreating.

They cannot block Rayne’s blades andcan feed on them in most situations. Thismakes them useful as abundant sourcesof health.

    Strategy

Large groups of vampires should bedestroyed with a Blood Rage, or at least amobile, circling attack style. Just keep cir-cling, and keep throwing melee attacks.

Use guns if the odds are overwhelmingand you’re desperate.

Rayne can feed on vampires. They pro-vide lots of health.

To feed, jump on the vampire from theside or rear. They can sometimes resist afrontal feeding attempt.

If the vampire is particularly difficult, shoot him a few times, then try feedingagain. Once again, initiate the attemptfrom the side or rear.

    Oberscharfuhrer(High Commander)Mynce

In Teachers and Traitors, it turns out thatMynce is a traitor you must fight. Is nothing sacred anymore?

Mynce is essentially a Rayne clone. She has the same skills, so it’s a challenging fight.

StrengthsSince Mynce has Rayne’s melee skills, shecan do a great deal of damage at closerange, especially if you stay in front of her.

She’s also just as fast as Rayne. Some of her melee attacks take her

high into the air, so your counterattacksmay occasionally miss.

WeaknessesMynce doesn’t use guns and can’t (orwon’t) use Blood Rage.

Your Blood Rage is the key to makingthis a manageable fight.

  • Prima’s Official Strategy GuideTM

    Strategy

When you begin fighting Mynce, be sureto use Dilated Perception.

Fire bullet weapons while staying asfar back as possible and circling to avoidmelee attacks. You can also throw in theoccasional blade slash.

When Mynce is somewhat hurt, shestarts running up the stairs. Follow her ata distance.

Mynce may pause at certain landings.Instead of catching all the way up, hangback and shoot at her from below, thenchase her again when she takes off.

After crossing to a different tower, it’stime to complete the battle. Trigger aBlood Rage and start your usual circling, slashing routine. If you lay it on thick, you’ll emerge victorious.

    Mobile Armor

Mobile Armors are giant, mechanizedtanks. They have three weapons: a high-speed machine gun, a rocket launcher, and a grenade launcher.

These mechanical beasts are incrediblypowerful. You encounter them a few timesduring the game, and your tactics dependon the situation.

StrengthsExtremely powerful weapons and extraor-dinary durability are the hallmarks of theMobile Armor.

WeaknessesExtreme sluggishness is this vehicle’s onlyreal weakness.

    Strategy

Rayne must fight several of these things inUnholy Mecha. Fortunately, she’s pilotingone herself at the time.

The two keys to victory are to continu-ally move sideways (it’s slow, but you needto avoid a few rockets) and repeatedly fireyour weapons.

Strafe from side to side. You can’t avoideverything, but every rocket you dodge is a plus.

Press and hold the machine gun buttonwhile aiming at the enemy’s lower torso orupper legs. Meanwhile, periodically tapboth the grenade and rocket launcher but-tons. Stay back far enough so you don’t gethit by your own grenades.

Stay on target at all times. If themachine gun overheats, let up on the trig-ger for a while, then press and hold thetrigger again.

When Rayne encounters a lone MobileArmor in The Bridge, it’s a different storybecause she’s on foot. In this case, sheneeds to destroy it with three Panzershrekshots. Constantly retreat, using DilatedPerception, and briefly switch over toExtruded View when you take your shots.Aim low, as the Mobile Armor is constantlydescending. Don’t let it get too close.

    Hedrox

Hedrox is an ancient vampire chieftainwho replicates himself. For example, if youhack off Hedrox’s limb, the body grows anew limb—and the severed limb grows anew Hedrox.

The term “Hedrox” therefore refers to agroup of creatures that act more or lesslike an individual.

Each individual Hedrox can make itsown decisions but shares the otherHedrox’s thoughts. Subsequently, Hedroxis slightly insane.

StrengthsHedrox is fast and hits hard. It can leapthrough the air and deal severe damageon impact.

Beyond that, don’t worry; you don’tfight Hedrox in a conventional sense.

    WeaknessesHedrox is killed by water.

    Strategy

When you encounter Hedrox in TheWindmill, you don’t actually fight it. Youjust need to avoid it while you breakbuilding supports.

  • enem

    ies

    21

If you position the supports betweenHedrox and Rayne, Hedrox will often leapthrough the supports, doing your job for you.

When all six supports on each of thewindmill’s two levels have beendestroyed, all but one Hedrox is killed—and the survivor flees.

    TheDoppelgangerTwins: Sigmundand SimonKrieger

The twins are senior Nazi officers whothrow bladed swastikas at Rayne.

Born as Siamese twins, they were separated at birth; each is missing one arm.Nevertheless, they are both proud and vain.

Their most noteworthy characteristicis neither a strength nor a weakness—justan oddity. When you hit one twin, theother twin is damaged.

StrengthsThe twins are mobile. They like to hidebehind the two pillars in the arena whereyou encounter them.

Their thrown blades bounce aroundand take indirect paths, so they can hitRayne even if they don’t have a line ofsight with her.

The twins are durable. And becausethey look the same, if you don’t pay attention, you’ll end up attacking both ofthem (and spreading out the damage)rather than focusing on one of them, asyou should.

WeaknessesWhen one twin dies, the other immediatelyfollows (regardless of whether he’s damaged or not).

Both guns and melee attacks injurethese officers.

    Strategy

Use Dilated Perception for this fight. One strategy is to destroy one of the

two pillars by rebound kicking, thusremoving one twin’s cover—but this moveis unnecessary.

Pick one twin and chase him aroundthe pillar. Shoot him with bullet weaponsand hack him with melee attacks. He occasionally gets behind the pillar, butRayne is fast enough to catch him, especially given all the reaction time provided by Dilated Perception.

If both twins congregate in one area, keep after the one you’ve been fightingand ignore the other. Your target’s cloakand hat fly off once you deal significantdamage, so if you’re attentive you can dis-tinguish him from the other one.

Blood Rage allows Rayne to inflict massive damage. Stay close and hack furi-ously, and you’ll eventually win the battle.

    Beliar

According to some myths, Beliar was theoriginal devil. When Lucifer fell fromheaven, he usurped Beliar and ripped himinto a thousand pieces. These pieces arethe relics that Jurgen Wulf collects.

Beliar slowly grows bigger andstronger throughout the course of hisfight against Rayne. He’s an incrediblypowerful enemy.

Beliar appears in the endgame, alongwith Jurgen Wulf. Refer to the last part ofthe walkthrough for full details on how tobeat him.

    SupremeCommanderJurgen Wulf

Jurgen Wulf is a World War I war criminalwho fled to South America to escape punishment. While there, he learned ofpowerful supernatural relics and foundedthe GGG.

The relics he seeks are parts of ademon named Beliar. Some of these relicsare now part of Wulf’s body and give himspecial powers. He possesses Beliar’s ribs(provide toughness), teeth (allow him tobreathe fire), eye (gives enhanced percep-tion, which translates to supernaturalspeed), and hand (allows burning, slashing attacks).

Wulf appears in the endgame, alongwith Beliar. The strategy for fighting himis quite complex; it would be a waste ofspace to repeat it all here. Refer to theappropriate spot in the walkthrough forfull details on Wulf, his capabilities, andhow to beat him.

General StrategyThis section provides a toolset of general techniques for getting through the game. Refer to the walkthrough sections when you’re stuck, but the following tips will minimize the number of times you need those explicit walkthroughs.

CombatStrategyHere are a few tips to improve your combat skills.

    When to UseMelee Attacks

Rayne’s standard melee attacks, triggeredby repeatedly pressing the attack button, are her most basic form of attack.

These attacks are less exotic thanthose using the harpoon or the Bloodlustmeter, but they’re also the most useful. You can hack and slash through mostenemies with these attacks.

Melee attacks are preferred any timeyou face a noncritical situation. Theyallow you to damage your enemies whileconserving your guns. Additionally, theybuild up your Bloodlust meter.

    When to UseGuns

Use guns whenever the situation is toodifficult for melee attacks alone.

For example, a large room filled withSS troopers and other powerful enemiesis tough to clear with just melee attacks.Rayne will take damage from theweapons trained on her.

In this situation, thin out the toughestenemies with guns. Then take over withmelee attacks, or by feeding on individuals.

Guns are essential when fighting enemies whom you must destroy quickly(such as soldiers with rocket launchers)or bosses who are partially immune tohand-to-hand attacks.

    When to UseBlood Rage

Save Blood Rage for tough enemies orfor large groups of enemies.

It’s also useful in Louisiana for timeswhen you fight while standing in the water. Itslows things and makes your situation moremanageable (in the absence of DilatedPerception, which becomes available whenRayne progresses to Argentina).

    When to Feed

Rayne can safely feed on a standing enemyin most situations. Here are the exceptions.

She cannot safely feed if several ene-mies with decent guns surround her. If theenemies are in one direction, she can turnher victim and use him as a humanshield—but if enemies are all around her, they’ll shoot her. She may lose healthfaster than she gains it through feeding.

Rayne cannot safely feed if a nearbyenemy has a panzer or grenades. Theseexplosive weapons can inflict terrible dam-age. Hop off the victim and get out of theway if one of these weapons appears inenemy hands.

Rayne has to be careful about feedingon a lesser enemy while in the presence ofa boss. Use Dilated Perception when doingthis, and keep an eye on the boss. Beready to leap off and continue the fight ata moment’s notice.

  • Prima’s Official Strategy GuideTM

    24 primagames.com

    MaximizingDamage

Maximizing damage means sticking closeto the target despite its evasive maneu-vers. If you allow the enemy to drift off,Rayne’s attacks will miss their mark.

This is important during Blood Rage, when Rayne uses her high-kicking, spin-ning attacks. Mobile enemies can slide outof the way of these attacks, so constantlyadjust Rayne’s position in midair to keepthe target in range.

    Avoiding ReturnDamage

The rule of thumb for avoiding damage isto circle the enemy. Any foe can hurtRayne if she stands in front of him or her,but no foe can mount an effective attack ifRayne slides behind him or her.

Dilated Perception slows things downand makes it easier for Rayne to react tothe enemy, adjusting for every movementand staying to the side or rear.

Staying to the side or rear is trickier whenyou face several opponents. One technique isto run around and separate the foes so youcan circle each one individually.

Another method is to trigger Blood Rageor use weapons to thin out the group.

    Using HighExplosives

Rayne automatically aims bullet weaponsat the nearest enemy or enemies. However, she must aim grenades and rockets.

The difficult part with rockets is gettingthe elevation right. Too high and the rocketsails over the target’s head; too low and it hits the ground, possibly even hurtingRayne.

Experience is the only teacher whenaiming rockets. It also helps to use DilatedPerception, which gives you more time to aim.

Grenades are not easy to aim, even whenExtruded View is available. There aresome tricks to help you, though.

Aim for the enemy’s feet, and use thenatural terrain to your advantage. Forexample, wait until the enemy is standingat the base of a slope, then throw thegrenade. The slope prevents the grenadefrom going too far past the target.

Finally, if you want a grenade with ashort fuse, “cook” it by holding down thefire button for a couple seconds beforetossing it. It’ll explode shortly after youthrow it. Be careful not to hold it too long.

    Dealing withBosses

Bosses are a diverse lot. In addition totheir raw power, some bosses haveunusual strengths and weaknesses andyou must beat them with specialized tac-tics. This makes it impossible to outline asingle formula for beating them all. However, common threads do exist.

    • Bosses are vulnerable to Blood Rage.In some cases, it’s the only way todamage them. Enter every boss fightwith a full Bloodlust meter.

    • Some bosses are vulnerable to guns,so keep a big arsenal on hand. Evenbosses that aren’t vulnerable to gunsmay flinch when you hit them, andthat buys you time.

    • Circling and staying behind the boss isusually just as effective a strategy as itis against weaker foes.

    • Many bosses’ strengths or weaknessesderive from the level in which theyreside. Pay attention to the surroundings, always looking for possible dangers oropportunities.

TipSome enemies, such asDaemite Warriors, can hurtRayne if she gets right up andtouches them—so maintain aprecise range.

NoteThis method only works onslow enemies without potentlong-range attacks.

NoteWhen Extruded View becomesavailable, use it to aim rockets.Switch from Dilated Perceptionto Extruded View, line up a shot, fire, then leave Extruded Viewbefore a counterattack hits you.

ExplorationStrategyIt helps to have a general strategy forexploring a new level. You can always wan-der around until something happens, butthat doesn’t work so well on the morecomplicated levels.

    Explore Every Room

Explore every room in the level. Take itslowly or you’ll miss semi-hidden weaponsand weak spots in the walls.

Running through the level at top speedis a surefire way to become confused, especially when you’re in one of the morecomplex, multifloor levels.

    Break Crates andBarrels

Crates, barrels, and other destructibleitems often conceal weapons. Sometimesthey conceal a doorway or a vital weakspot in the wall.

Make a habit of shredding everythingin sight.

    Look forAlternate Routes

Some levels are small and linear, but theminute Rayne arrives in Argentina shedeals with more complex environments.

Often, you can’t reach your goal bymoving straight toward it. For example, ifyou’re on the first floor and your goal istoo, you aren’t guaranteed a clear path toit. You may have to venture down into thebasement (or up to the second floor),move around, then return to the first floorat another spot.

    Watch forBreakable Paths

It’s already been mentioned, but it’s vital.Constantly watch for breakable spots asthese are often the key to progressing inthe level.

Flimsy doors, weakened walls, andglass windows are obvious targets. Sometargets are easy to overlook, however.

For example, Rayne may find a longrow of barred, unbreakable windows. It’seasy to discount them and leave, but keep looking. You might find a single window in the row without bars.

    Move from Floorto Floor

Rayne doesn’t need to use stairs. She can jump from one floor to the next, except in rare cases where ceilings are extremely high.

Always look for balconies, overhangs, and galleries where multiple floors over-look a courtyard. These are easy places forRayne to climb or descend floors.
