This will be an optional live session with the teacher to help anyone that can’t get regular access to Teams to ask

LiteracyReading Spelling Writing
We are learning how to make our writing more powerful and interesting by creating similes.
We are learning to identify the main ideas of the text in order to act out a scene from the book so far.
We are learning to identify the main ideas of spoken text and use this information to create a talk.
We are learning to use our spelling strategies with our
spelling words.We are learning to use
resources (eg- dictionary and thesaurus) to increase
vocabulary.
We are learning to use persuasive language create a piece of writing that will
influence/persuade the reader.

Chapter 9: Task 1Author Challenge
Stein’s smile made him look, ‘like a fox who had just eaten a shed full of chickens’ and as he looked at the paper clip he was ‘examining it carefully like a scientist examining a small insect’
These similes help to paint a strong picture of what Stein looks like and how he moves. This is a fun description strategy to improve your writing.

Can you think of some similes to describe something that has happened in the book, such as:
- How would you describe what is in Jessie’s pockets? - How we might describe Fergus and Murdo’s behaviour and stakeout.- How would you describe how a cat moves?- How would you describe the atmosphere in the office and what happened?
Task 1:Using the ‘Speed Write’ find out how many times you can write each of your spelling words in 30 seconds?
Task 2:Please do a spelling assessment on Friday.Complete the task in jotter. Spelling lists are attached to this overview.
Task 3: Chapters 9 & 10 Tricky Words
What do the following words mean? Can you use them in a sentence?
Blurted, agitated, glimpse, floundering, cautiously,
opportunity, rifled, anticipating
Were there any other words that impressed you? Explain why.
Task 1: Persuasive Writing
Create a piece of writing that explores the pros, cons and your opinion of homework.

Pupils should use jotters or Teams to make notes.
Things to include:
Include an introduction that makes the topic clear.
Use persuasive language to influence or persuade the reader. For example – word choice, punctuation, repetition
Chapter 10: Task 2Act it Out
Select a scene that you really liked from the book so far OR think about a scene you wish you had more information about- such as the ransacking of the HQ. ACT IT OUT!
Think about the following:
● What characters do you need?● What would the characters say to each other?● How would the characters act?● Make sure the story and plot is easy for the audience to understand, don’t miss out
any key information.
You can make puppets, create a storyboard or act it out yourself. We would love to see your final productions!
Both Chapters: Task 3Talking and Listening – Catscape
Listen to chapter 9 & 10 and make bullet point notes about the key points of these chapters. Looking at character development, setting and plot.
Using the bullet points created; speak to someone at home for 2 minutes about what has happened without stopping and with no interruptions (use a stopwatch to time you). Allow the listener to ask questions at the end of talk about the chapter in order to clarify points and understanding.
Peer Assessment - Ask your listener to provide two stars and a wish. What two things did you do really well and what one thing could you improve on?

Natural Disaster/Extreme Weather Health and WellbeingWe are learning about natural disasters and their impact on the planet and humans. We can share our learning with

Task: This week we are learning about landslides and avalanches. Please read the PowerPoint saved in our Teams Files section. Then use safe internet searching to carry out research about the different types of avalanche rescue methods that are used to save avalanche victims. Please write down the recue methods that you find and explain how they are used to save someone’s life. Your research can be completed in your jotter or on Teams.
