In maths we discuss numbers every day. However, these are usually positive numbers, meaning they are greater than zero. This week we will be looking at negative numbers, these are numbers less than zero.

Personal Project/ Presentation Health and WellbeingOur new topic - CharitiesL.I: To explain the relevance of charities.SC:

Our new topic this term is looking at charities. Over the next few weeks you will complete a variety of tasks leading up to a final presentation. Please complete the task on the Charities worksheet

RECOUNTRemember – a recount is where you tell us “what happened” and is written in past tense (as it has

already happened). It usually talks about our feelings and thoughts.

An example of this is a diary entry.

Task –To create a diary entry about your time in lockdown. This might be one day or cover multiple days. Your diary entry should include:

The date (or dates) it happened on. A sequence of events Discussion about the events. Your thoughts, feelings and emotions on the events. A conclusion

Here is an example of part of a dairy –Tuesday 14 th April 2020 Today I woke up feeling sad, I miss my friends. After breakfast I decided to get dressed quickly and do the Joe Wicks workout. It was great fun…but exhausting. It did help though and I now feel a lot happier. After I cooled down I decided to do some school work. I finally managed to get logged on to Sumdog and I competed against someone else who was online. I really enjoyed it and I won!

Let’s look at our number line:

We know that this is zero. If we count in ones, we reach 20.

Numbers below zero are called negative numbers and are written like -1.

Numbers above zero are positive numbers and would be written like 1.

During the coronavirus outbreak many charities have been affected. Some charities have seen an increase in the number of people requiring their support. These include:

Foodbanks Charities supporting people who are isolated from (away from) their

families. Charities that support people having financial troubles.

TASK This week we will focus on foodbanks, research and answer the following –

What a foodbank can provide. Who can use a foodbank? Are there any local foodbanks? How do they receive donations? What can you do to support a local foodbank?

If possible – Pick a local foodbank and complete further research about them.

Extra – Create a poster advertising the foodbank you researched.
