secretary by day, a student by night. I was determined that if

I couldnt do my dreams, I would do the typical dream, and

show I could rise quickly through the office job ranks. I ended

up working my way up through the Australian Goernment,

spending a stint working for Ministers in Parliament House,

getting promotion after promotion before landing my way

as an editor of business.go.au (a United Nations Award

winning website!)

It still wasnt enough.

I was steadfast and determined in my answer: One day, Im

going to be Prime Minister of Australia.

She looked at me eyes and said:

Leonie, youre far too good for that. What is it you

REALLY love?

Well, Im an artist and a writer and I wish I could do

something with that one day...

Do that then. Put your energy and your passion into that.

My dear friend Mel was right that day. Shed already been in

the depths of the public service for years. Shed seen how hard

it was for change to be made, how jaded it could make those

with a vision. She knew my ambition wasnt fuelled by my own

passion. And she wanted me to find a new path that was

just that.

Its been many years since we had that conversation.

Where This Public Service Hippy Has Gone

Once I set my sights on finding my true ambition, I realized

my dreams were the things I adored doing as a kid:

Making art, Writing words, Trying to describe the beauty of

the world around me. When I was young, I was filled with

this eerie push: that there was something I knew that other

people didnt. That I needed to tell them: they are loved. Thateverything is okay. That the world is beautiful and good.

That that undefinable light and glow and rapture I could feel

(back then I didnt know what to call it know I know it as

communion with God, with Great Spirit) they could feel

And being a Scorpio that I am, I hae no qualms whatsoeer

about talking about a lot of things that other people can find

squeamish sex, death & money, namely. Its all sacred to me.

So I wanted to share the idea behind how my business

currently makes money and how my business strategy has

been based off one book and one dream.

A Book With A Question

I found a book when my daughter Ostara was a few weeksold. It was in a musty secondhand bookstore one of our usual

haunts. Ostara was unsettled at the time I only had about 20

minutes between feeds. So I sped through the aisles, making

my way to the business section, pulling out a pile of books and

handing them to my loe. These. Mine. And then I sped out the

front door, nestled into our warm car with Ostara and fed

her again.

I read it when we got home, as she nursed and slept in

my arms.

one thing i absolutely adore reading isthe stories of how others do it.

And actually its not even true that I read it all. I read half

the book. There are two parts to the book a novel about a

woman who needs to become a millionaire, and the practical

steps to use to become a one minute millionaire And because

stories ALWAYS inspire me more and make more sense to

my brain, I read the novel, ditched the practical part. I wont

recount the story to you here, because it isnt important.

What the story DID to me, however, is.

It struck up a question in my mind:

What would be my one million dollar idea?

And if I had to make one million dollars, howwould I make it?

It wasnt just some hazy kind of idea for me. It wasnt just some

kind of vague what-if-in-the-future question.

It was real, and it was a question I needed to answer.

The Question I Needed To Answer

You see, my love and I had decided it was time to make The

Change. For eight years, wed been living in an alpine city.

We were both working as public servants in the Australian

Government. Id been building my business part-time for a

couple of years and it was going really wonderfully.

It was the book

I didnt want to go back to work after my maternity leae

finished. And my loe didnt get to see Ostara for the fie days

a week that he worked. We didnt want to be so cold and

isolated. We wanted to be together and warm and raising our

daughter and haing a good life.

So we decided to quit our jobs and moe back across the

countryside to my hometown in tropical paradise - North

Queensland, Australia. My hometown is beautiful, but there

arent many jobs there much less the kind of jobs we wanted.

So we knew we would hae to rely on my business. And dont

get me wrong I had a huge amount of faith and belief in my

business, just as I do now. But I wanted to know how I could

make it happen without freaking out.

but now was the time we had to makea giant leap of faith.

I needed a Milion Dolar Idea.

Except right at that point? I didnt really need a Million

Dollars. I worked out the sums of our mortgage and car andbills, and worked out we would need $75,000 a year at

least. $100,000 a year to be able to put away saings and

lie comfortably. (Out of interest, when I talk to some of my

loely international friends about mortgages, they are often

surprised at how expensie Australian mortgages are. Our

home was $265,000 & is one of the cheapest prices you

could probably expect for a house anywhere in Australia.)

Which is all a rather elaborated way of saying, I decided I

needed to hae a One Hundred Thousand Dollar idea.

Dont get me wrongsies I knew I could eentually come up

with a One Million Dollar idea. But for right then? The One

Hundred Thousand Dollar idea is what I wanted to stretch

myself too. I knew I had an intense year ahead of me new

mamahood with a baby and a moe across the countryside.

That was my energy parameters.

So it was to be a One Hunded ThousandDoa idea.

I started running numbers.

How many ways could I create one hundred thousand dollars?

I took stock of all the e-courses, meditations & workbooks I

had created.

I could sell 1,000 copies of my workbook at $9.95 to get

almost $10,000. Only $90,000 to go!

I could sell 200 meditations at $49.95 each for

another $10,000.

And then I could sell 800 of my e-courses. I could run 4

terms and get 200 students each term.

Theres my $100,000. I knew it could be done, I just knewit would be a stretch. It would mean a lot of hustle, a lot of

marketing, a lot of energy and time.

I would need to hae to conert sales as often as possible, drie

traffic as much as I could, push, market, create and push.

And as I held my newborn daughter in my arms, and felt the

mammoth task of mamahood in front of me, I knew I justdidnt hae that kind of energy and time.

I needed a bette idea. A simpe idea.

how to make it happen?

One that was happier and more joyful and full of ease.

The idea came in a dream, in the haze of milky hours

between nightime newborn feeds.

At that point in time, I had 2000 people on my mailing list, and

750 RSS subscribers at that point in time. Ive always had a really

amazing conversion rate with my tribe of women... even though

my numbers are relatively small by epic-business-proportions, my

tribe have always been incredibly receptive & supportive of myideas & courses & projects. Im very very grateful for it, and I try

to give as much to them as I can from wherever I am.

So with all these things beating in my heart andsoul, I knew it was the right thing for me. And Iknew with all my insides that my beautiful tribe

of goddesses would love it too. For years theyhad been asking for a permanent private circlehome, instead of just intermittent e-course circleswhere they could connect together.

When the light of morning came, i

looked back at that piece of paper, and i

So I set about building a mini-empire. I wanted to create a

sanctuary for them, a space where I could pour all the love

and guidance and inspiration I had, and they could take

whatever they needed each moment, each day of their year.

I also decided to open up 10 premium memberships at $1000

each it included coaching & business-brainstorming & a

custom painting. I wanted to offer something for goddesses

who were wanting to have as much access to me as

they needed.

In the first year we had almost 1500 members. My $1000 a

head premium memberships were sold out within a month of

opening them. It was an incredible, ginormous, wild success of

epic proportions.

I get to help people. I get to earn money easily. I get to create.I get to give it all away. And it all turns into this wonderful

rainbow-scented circus of love.

Building the idea

I dont need to hustle. I dont need to push. I

dont really need to market that much anymore.

I write the best posts I can to help as many goddesses as

possible. I create podcasts & videos & posters & meditations &

ebooks, and set them free into the world like sparkling birds.

And I just create.I pour out all the wisdom thats in my heart into things likethe Business Goddess e-course and the 2012 Creating your

Goddess Year workbook, planner & calendar and the Creating

with Kids workshop.

And I give them all to my members. Just keep on sending anabundant supply of love, resources + inspiration to them.

Sitting here, on a Monday afternoon, inside the little wooden

hut that houses our local library, the monsoonal tropical rain is

pouring outside.

My daughter is nestled up in her bed in our little cottage a

couple of streets away. My loe is with her.

Yesterday was my daughters birthday. We got to celebrate it

on our old wooden erandah. Shes the reason we wanted to

be here in tropical paradise, liing this easy, spacious, time-filled

I practice a lot of discipline and relationship-management and

time-management to get my stuff done and be a mama.

And HOW I do it has changed as my daughter grows older

and our lifestyle has changed.

So lets gie you two scenarios: what I did when she was a

newborn, then what I did when she was a baby, and what I donow shes a toddler.

NEWBOrN STAGE:

My daughter was not one of those babies that was okay for me

to leae for een an hour when she was under six months. Plus,

I was exclusiely breastfeeding, and for those first four months

or so, it felt like all I did what sit on the couch and breastfeed.

And whilst my husband is now at home with us now thanks

to my booming business, when my daughter was a newborn it

wasnt the case. For the first fie months, he worked full time,

and I looked after the needs of my baby, my business and me.

It was a crazy combination. I basically didnt put her down for

to bed at 6pm with her to try and wedge in enough sleep

always hae her in my arms.

So, babe in arms. Still running a massiely busy business on

my own.

I think thats how a mamas get stu done.

One of the keys to it was this: my loe gae me an iPod Touch

when Ostara was a week old. I protested at first. I said But! Im

supposed to be looking in her eyes 24/7! Een when shes got

them closed! Een when were breastfeeding 15 hours a day! Its

supposed to be ALL NATURAL, honey!

And he said

Im cool with you being all natural, but youe gotta stay sane

too ya know. A bit of balance is a good thing for a mama.

Damn hes hot. I mean wise. I mean hot.

Anywaysies, that lil iPod Touch became my Business

Workstation for all those months. I wrote 1100 word blog posts

with one finger as I breastfed my daughter to sleep, and asshe slept for hours on me. Id respond to Twitter during 3am

breastfeeds (My daughter would take an hour eery time to

breastfeed. I KNOW RIGHT. Anyways, it happened. And we

suried. And I totally desere a gold star! Ha!) I responded to

emails, I dreamed up new ideas for the business, I implemented

marketing strategies. All from my one touch typing on my iPod.

i Just did it.

In a world that had become suddenly so ensconced with

mamahood, to keep writing and doing this beautiful business of

mine was my outlet and my joy and my sense of normal.

BABY STAGE:

As my daughter grew, things began to change. Once she was

ready to be left with her Daddy-o for longer than a ten minute

patch, I started implementing two hour work sessions to catch

up, regain my sanity and start finding my creatie happy

space again.

I would nurse my daughter to sleep for her afternoon nap

wheneer shes ready. (We werent not on any kind of

schedule. Im just not a schedules kinda girl. Sometimes I

wondered if I should, but I figured all three of us (mama, papa

+ baba) were happy and settled so we stayed schedule-free.)

Once she was asleep, I kissed her cute lil forehead, pull some

clothes on (you know... the kind you can be seen in public in),

tossed my laptop & eerything I needed in my Mobile Office

(my canas rucksack) & headed across the back lot into town.

We lied only one street away from the centre of our little

town, and I had a couple of different places I usually went to

get work done: the top of an ancient fig tree in a little park

it was what i had to do, so i Just did it.(it could be like Swiss Family Robinson up there! Oh my

goshness, so dreamy!), or the town library, or one of the

little cafes for a cupcake or hot chocolate. When I wrote thisworkbook the ery first time, I was writing it in our car in the

parking lot of our library while it poured with monsoonal rain.

It felt like being outside! But without the wet laptop!

I didnt hae internet access during that time and it was el

fantastico for productiity. No distractions... only the white page

& wild donkeys to ride.

Then when two hours is up, I head home again, and hang

out with my daughter while my loe studies. We made art &eat & play with the dogs and nestle up on a mattress on the

floor. I usually hae a couple of loose projects we can work

on together. And I made sure we rested as much as possible.

I realized early on in mamahood that Ie only got a limited

amount of energy per day, and if I run around like a headless

chook, I soon lose the rest of me too.

When she was asleep at night, I would jump on my laptop and

do another couple of hours of work this time with internet

access. Weee! This is when I publish blog posts, answer emails,

hang out in the Goddess Circle to answer questions, and post

stuff to Facebook & Twitter.

so then i would have two hours tocreate my next product or e-course or

write blog posts or guest posts.TODDlEr STAGE:

My daughter is now three.

Wee weaned from breastfeeding, and shes happy and

chirpy and totally happy to hae Papa Time eery afternoon

in the week.

i spend the mornings with my two loves.we go on adventures, go to the beach,

hang out at home and cook and play.And in the afternoons, I kiss and wae and I head to my studio

at the other end of the house (behind two sets of locked doors

Ie learned what happens when I dont lock them. I get

frequent isitors that, whilst charming, make me spend twice

the amount of time doing one thing than if I was focused. Id

rather be totally present and centered and productie withmy work while I do it, then be present and centered with my

family when Im with them. It doesnt work for me to always be

melding them together.)

I still only work 2-3 hours a day. I stay

focused and only do the things that are hugely

important, what will moe my business forward

and what will help the most amount of people.

I now dont work at night time or on weekends (yay!) I create

systems for eerything that needs doing, automate as much as

possible, and get my team to do the work that isnt essential

for me to do anymore. Its meant so much more leerage and

balance in my life, and means Im no longer the bottleneck

in my company. My company doubles or triples in size each

year and Ie neer worked a standard 40 hour work

week in it its always been much much less.

Huge miracles can be achieed as long as we stay focused,

centered and immensely productie in the time that we hae

to do our work. (Make sure you turn the internet off when

you hae to create! Otherwise as soon as you hit a snag or

resistance of any kind, youll automatically moe to whats

easier which often means social media frittering!)

heres the things ive learned aboutgetting stuff done as a mama

I do *not* stay up at night to get more done. Ie experimented, and 9:30 is my conk-out time. If I go to bed any later,I am exhausted the next day, its harder to write (and function), and I crash and burn a lot more.

I dont try & do work on the laptop while shes awake. I could while she was a little button, but not now shes super

actie. She now knows the art of pressing keys on the laptop, and its totally adorable and eerything, but doesnt

result in much work being done. Unless you count my brain saying ark! arch! productiity! make stuff happen! but not

happening! Its SO much better if I just accept the hours I hae with my daughter as being just that: hang out time

with her. Stuff can get done when her eyelids are closed or Im in my studio.

I dont spend as much time anymore on stuff that doesnt make much impact. Ie got a big ision of what I want to

do. Ie got big goals. And I try to only concentrate on stuff thats going to get me there.

For me now, getting time out eeryday seres two purposes: I get my work done. And its my happy time. My sane

time. When I dont get it, my anxiety returns from its happy cae where I wish it would stay. I feel like getting time

to myself eeryday is pretty much essential to my mental health. I used to think I would be 24/7 attachment mama,

but for this particular constellation of cells, I work best when I hae time to integrate on my own each day. And I willmoe mountains to make sure that happens. A happy mama is as important as a happy baby.

What will happen if Chris goes back to work? Ill work it out. Well work it out. Well find a wonderful daycare or

nanny to help out for a few hours each day. Most importantly, well find a way for all our needs to be met.

I hae fun side-projects to work on when I hae the time. But

For me right now, what is profitable is creating e-courses &

meditation kits & workbooks that I can help as many people aspossible with. They are to a big extent passie income as in, I

Being a new mama, I dont hae much time thats the thing

that is in major deficit for me. So I only do a ery ery limited

amount of coaching now (if any at all). And I didnt do lie

eents until Ostara was older 2 and a half was the time

when I started doing lie eents again.

My aim is to help as many women as possible, so creating

e-products is a great fit for that.

And as to what wi be poitabe?

My tribe of women decides on that. I create things based on

what I get asked for a lot, or what Im getting a soul-nudging

to create.

And I try to put the same amount of marketing in as I can

with each.

But always some products will ring the bell, others wont as

much. Thats okay. You can always create more.

I know this kinda sounds like the aboe point, but trust me,

its different.

When I was first starting out, I was so afraid of inesting
